Trailer Park: Bending Losers at the Junction
Filed under: Action, Animation, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Trailer Trash

The Last Airbender
This TV spot that will be playing during the Super Bowl shows some epic grandeur and way cool special effects. Based on the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender (hmmm, wonder why they changed the name) this represents a serious (and welcome) change of style for director M. Night Shyamalan. This one hits on July 2.
The Losers
It takes guts to call your film The Losers because if it tanks even the least talented film critic in the world will have an easy joke to fall back on. Based on a comic book but not having a particularly comic booky feel this is the story of a group of mercenaries out for revenge against the government that framed them. The resemblance to The A-Team wouldn't be so annoying if there wasn't already an A-Team remake on the way. Watch for this on April 9.
Heartless
A young man with a large birth mark on his face learns there are demons living in London and is offered an irresistible deal for helping them. Looks like an interesting modern take on the pact with the devil story. This opens in the U.K. on May 21. No U.S. release info yet.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Michael Douglas returns as Gordon Gekko, the role he originated in 1987's Wall Street and Oliver Stone is once again at the helm. Gekko has been cooling his heels behind bars all these years but now he's out and presumably looking to bask in capitalism once again. The "getting your personal effects back after years in the slammer" bit is sort of a cliche, but there's a cute twist on it here. We'll see if this lives up to the original on April 23.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
A Swedish film in which an investigative journalist and a hacker (the lady with the ink) join forces to solve a forty year old murder. Looks like there's already a U.S. remake in the works, though my money is on the original. Watch for this one on March 19.
Bass Ackwards
A particularly indie looking indie film about a man who embarks upon a cross-country road trip in a VW bus after ending a disastrous affair with a married woman. I have nothing against road trip movies but I don't see anything particularly special about this one. This just premiered at Sundance and will be in theaters sometime in 2010.
Trailer Park: I Love You, Wimpy MacGruber

MacGruber
I had hoped that we as a society had gotten past the idea that a good movie can be made from a Saturday Night Live sketch. Yes, we have The Blues Brothers and Wayne's World in the plus column, but on the flip side we also have turkeys like Superstar, A Night at the Roxbury, It's Pat and god knows how many others. While there were a few minor laughs in this red band trailer, I'm pretty sure MacGruber, Will Forte's MacGyver parody, will fall into the latter category. We'll find out for sure on April 23.
Happy Tears
Comedy drama starring Demi Moore and Parker Posey as sisters who must care for their father (Rip Torn) now that his health has taken a turn for the worse. This one is from the director of Teeth. Posey is worth seeing in just about anything and the rest of the cast is pretty good too. This will be out sometime in February.
Cyrus
No, this is not the long-awaited Miley Cyrus biopic. John C. Reilly plays a man who has finally found true love in a woman played by Marisa Tomei. The conflict comes in the form of her creepy son played by Jonah Hill. Looks like this could be pretty funny. No release date yet.
Trailer Park: In the Company of the Happy Team

The Company Men
Three corporate executives (Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones and Chris Cooper) suddenly find themselves jobless and reevaluating their lives. The trailer has no dialogue but presumably the performers (which also includes Kevin Costner) will sell this one. No release information yet.
The A-Team
We've finally got a trailer for the new feature version of the 80s TV series. Liam Neeson plays team leader Hannibal, a role created by George Peppard. The nostalgia factor is lost on me. To this day every time I hear the A-Team theme I get a compulsive urge to change the channel. The action scene near trailer's end is an eye catcher, but nothing else here does much for me. This one hits on June 11.
Terribly Happy
Danish film about a disgraced cop assigned to a remote town where strange things happen. On the surface this seems like a repurposed plot from Hot Fuzz, but there's more going on in this dark little thriller. The film is subtitled, so don't expect a large U.S. release, but it starts a limited run on February 5.

She's Out of My League
An airport security guard falls for a gorgeous blonde who, as the title points out, is out of his league. Jay Baruchel stars and this looks like another attempt to duplicate the Apatow formula. This one hits on March 12.
Our Family Wedding
A comedy about an ethnically mixed couple getting married which causes their respective fathers to butt heads. Hardly an original concept. I'll be skipping this one but those who are interested can check this one out on March 19.
Cold Weather
Yet another film that could be brilliant but you sure can't tell from the preview. "I'm a trailer for an indie drama," it seems to be saying, "and I am infuriatingly vague." No release information yet.
Celine Through the Eyes of the World
Documentary following French-Canadian pop diva Celine Dion on her world tour as she tries to balance her performances with family life. Watch for this some time in February.

The Karate Kid
Jaden Smith is a young man who can't seem to fit in with his new surroundings after his mom relocates them to China. A martial arts expert played by Jackie Chan teaches him how to defend himself from the bullies that are making his life hell. This seemed like a bad idea when I first heard about it, but the trailer is giving me a positive vibe. Smith is appealing as the young protege and the trailer features a few homages to the original. Watch for this one on June 11.
Inception
Like the teaser, this second trailer doesn't do a real good job of telling you what the movie is about but it will certainly make you want to know more. Leonardo DiCaprio stars and Chris Nolan directs this sci-fi (at least I think it's sci-fi) thriller. This one hits on July 16.
How to Train Your Dragon
Here's the second trailer to this 3D animated family comedy from Dreamworks. A young viking boy goes against the tradition of his people and decides he doesn't want to fight dragons. In fact, the big fire breathing lizards aren't nearly as bad as he's been led to believe and he sets out to befriend them. I'm sure the 3D will make this visually spectacular, but nothing else is really exciting me here. This one will be out on March 26.
Marmaduke
Marmaduke? Seriously? I know comics properties are hot in Hollywood but who thought it was a good idea to adapt one of the lamest newspaper comics in the history of the medium? You can't get a real feel for the movie from this teaser but the giant great dane voiced by Owen Wilson does seem to have some personality so who knows? June 4 is the release date.
Frozen
Three young people fight to survive after they are trapped on a chairlift at a ski resort. Looks kind of like Open Water on skis. Watch for this one on February 5.
Trailer Park: Knights, Warlords and Repo Cops

Knight and Day
Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz star in an action flick so silly and over the top it just might work. He's some kind of super spy and she's caught in the middle. The trailer is fun and hopefully the movie will be too. Watch for this one on July 2.
Warlords
This historical action drama set during the Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s tells the tale of three men who swear allegiance and brotherhood to one another after their shared experiences in combat. Lush historical settings and some eye-popping action suggest this may be one to watch for. No U.S. release info yet.
Repo Men
Forest Whitaker and Jude Law are repossessors of artificial organs in this red band trailer. If you don't make the payments on these miraculous futuristic devices they will track you down and rip them from your body. Wait a minute, didn't this already come out and wasn't it an opera with Paris Hilton and that guy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer? No, this is a different film entirely and looks like it might be a good one. We'll find out for sure on April 2.
Trailer Park: Runaway Hot Tubs and Iron in the Hood
Filed under: Action, Animation, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Trailer Trash, Family Films

Iron Man 2
The operative phrase here is "bad ass." Bad ass hero, villain (I see Mickey Rourke is still hitting the gym) and sidekick (yup, we get to see a bit of War Machine). Scarlett Johansson is looking fine as Black Widow and I can't complain about the Iron Man dancing girls. Gary Shandling as a Senator Stern (possibly named for one-time Iron Man comic scribe Roger Stern?) is a nice touch too. Watch for this one on May 7.
Robin Hood
Ridley Scott has a gift for spectacle which is why this trailer manages to work so well with only a smidgen of voice over and no dialogue. Lots of stylish action on display for this latest adaptation of the classic tale which features Russell Crowe in the lead. The arrows start flying on May 14.
Shrek Forever After
The green-skinned ogre with the Scottish accent is tricked into a scam that changes history so that he has never met donkey or his lovely Fiona, and Shrek must set things right. While the first was the best I've yet to meet a Shrek movie I didn't like, so I'm hoping this one continues the trend. This one hits theaters on May 21.
Trailer Park: The Case of the Sorcerer's Funeral
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Horror, Thrillers, Trailer Trash
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Nicolas Cage plays a wizard who sets out to train a young man in the mystical arts. Looks to be quite the special effects extravaganza and I have to say the score is really sticking with me. The magic begins July 16.
Death at a Funeral
Chris Rock leads a mostly African-American cast in this remake of the 2007 British comedy. The original had some good ideas but the humor was too dry for my taste, and this trailer has me wondering if they may have surpassed the original. Also of note is that Peter Dinklage reprises his role from the 2007 version as the man who has a dirty little secret involving the deceased. The mourning starts on April 16.
Trailer Park: Brooklyn's Finest on a Crazy Man's Chest
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Drama, Trailer Trash

Brooklyn's Finest
Three cops, each trying to get through the day. Richard Gere plays a veteran of the force just days from retirement, Don Cheadle has been working deep undercover for a long time and Ethan Hawke is a husband and father of seven desperate to provide for his family. I'm not sure I buy Gere as uniform cop at his age, and I kept expecting him to say "I'm too old for this sh*t!" Watch for this one on January 16.
Crazy on the Outside
Tim Allen plays a recently released convict who has spent three years in the big house, though his mother thinks he was in France, and now he needs to get his life back on track. The premise sounds pretty simple, but there are some laughs here and an interesting cast including Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta and Kelsey Grammer.
