Is Jonah Hill Developing a '21 Jump Street' Movie?
Filed under: Casting », Deals », RumorMonger », Fandom », DIY/Filmmaking », Remakes and Sequels »
We've been hearing about a possible 21 Jump Street movie for awhile now, and if Entertainment Weekly is to be believed, it looks like that film might be happening with Apatow love child Jonah Hill, who's in negotiations to work on the screenplay and executive produce. We assume Hill would also star in one of the lead roles, though that probably depends on whether they go the strict comedic route with this. 21 Jump Street, the TV show, was a pretty big hit during the '80s, and it starred Johnny Depp as one of a group of young cops who went undercover in high schools to help troubled kids. I dig it. Something like this would only work today if it was done with a sense of humor, I think, and so bringing in Hill to sprinkle on some Superbad-ish jokes might work well for the film ... even though all the raunchy stuff would make it a completely different monster, and when it was all said and done, would probably have nothing whatsoever to do with the original TV show (besides the name and the premise). Could you see 21 Jump Street: The Movie working as an Apatow-esque comedy? Does it work better as a drama? And who would you like to see joining Hill as a fellow undercover officer?
Stars in Rewind: Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp Kill Kids with Mullets

We've already brought you Brad Pitt selling Pringles. But how about the good old days when Brad acted his young heart out? Well, you could say acted, but his talents back in the '80s do not reveal the success to come. You can search around and find some embarrassing clips from his stint on Dallas, but I thought I would throw up a little pirate flavor.
Back in 1988, Pitt popped up as a high school student in an episode of 21 Jump Street. Along with Captain Jack Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise (who is currently a director on the new Canadian show jPod), you'll also notice Cheryl Pollak -- who played smartie Paige Woodward in Pump Up the Volume. So her brother spends a night in jail, with his super-saucy mullet, and letterman-jacket Pitt teases him mercilessly because the bad dude partied without him. I have to say, Pitt's voice sure got deeper over the years. Brad totally could've pulled off a cross-dressing role back then.
Quickhits: More and More Depp, A Horse Sex Movie and Will Nike Ever Produce Those Marty Mcfly Moonboots?

Odds and ends from a very slow Monday:
- Yes, the following story deals with a man having sex with a horse. Yes, it was that slow of a news day. Seattle filmmaker Robinson Devor has begun shooting a documentary based on popular story from 2005 in which a man from Enumclaw died after having sex with a horse. We first reported on this story waaaaaay back in October, but now, it seems, things are gearing up. Devor, who premiered his last film Police Beat at Sundance last year, hopes to debut In the Forest There is Every Kind of Bird at Sundance in 2007.
- As I've mentioned before, with Pirates of the Caribbean 2 landing in just a few days, Johnny Depp is all over the news this week. According to Contact Music, Stephen Cannell is looking to revive his 21 Jump Street series and turn it into a feature film starring none other than Johnny Depp. You'll remember Depp played Officer Tom Hansen on the original television series, but left the show on bad terms. However, the actor recently said he's keen to bring back the character, but only he gets to play him a certain way. Depp says, "He's out of his mind. He's really old now. But he thinks that he's really young. That I would love to do."
- Awhile back, we told you how a huge sneaker fan was desperately trying to get Nike to produce those cool futuristic sneakers Marty Mcfly wears in Back to the Future 2 and sell them to the public. Only one pair has ever existed and they were worn by Michael J. Fox in the film. Well, now that the petition has gathered up over 20,000 signatures, Canadian
RonAl Cabino** has partnered up with an unnamed New York media mogul in the attempt to create a TV campaign to help his cause. Not for nothing, but the jacket Fox wore was so much cooler. Oh, and what about the hovercraft -- how about they make one of those?
**(Thanks, Al Cabino, for emailing to let us know your name is Al, NOT Ron. -eds.)
