After all of the shocking and sad news yesterday, there's nothing like a refreshing laugh, or 50. I've enjoyed many of the Funny or Die shorts that have popped up, but this one is pure gold. This time around, Jerry O'Connell spoofs Tom Cruise's creepy Scientology video -- you know, the one Patrick Walsh blogged about, where Tommy reveals that he, and other Scientologists, are like an EMT/Jaws of Life combo for terrible accidents. (Oh, how I'd love to hear WHY.)

After watching this clip, my appreciation for the former Slider has increased exponentially. I could type away and share some of the jokes Jerry includes in this clip, but it's better to just see it for yourself. Suffice to say, if there is ever a Tom Cruise biopic, I want O'Connell to star. It seems like every actress these days either got her start as a model or scored an Estee Lauder/Noxema/Gap modeling contract after she hit it big in film. She was a recognizable staple of women's fashion magazine covers, the star of Versace and Calvin Klein ad campaigns, and the host of MTV's House of Style long before landing the plum role of Harrison Ford's undead mistress in the 2000 hit What Lies Beneath. Since then, she's starred in a slew of films, including the Will Smith blockbuster Hitch and the action smash Transporter 2.

So I'm reading this article about local actors in Chicago who are working as extras in the movie Stranger Than Fiction, which is currently filming in the Windy City and stars Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Dustin Hoffman. It seems producers love Chicago for its immense talent pool (and it always has been a great theater town). It seems to me that more cities should sell themselves this way, not only as picturesque and architecturally beautiful, but as a place with loads of talent. Instead of making your break in Hollywood, you simply stay put and wait for Hollywood to come to you. But then, I'm extremely naive.
