Ali Larter Gets Obsessed with Idris Elba
Filed under: Thrillers », Casting »
Since she won't be struggling with her alternate side in a world of Heroes any time soon, Ali Larter is getting Obsessed. Variety reports that she's going to star in Screen Gems' upcoming thriller, along with Beyonce Knowles and Idris Elba. Television director Steve Shill will helm the project, from a script by David Loughery. The latter has penned the likes of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and The Three Musketeers, had a 13-year break after Tom and Huck, and is now back with this and the upcoming Lakeview Terrace. In the hand that rocks the professional cradle, Elba plays "an asset manager who has a knockout wife (Knowles) and thriving career until a temp office worker (Larter) begins stalking him." What better validation can an actor get? One gets stalked by an attractive woman, and the other gets to be a "knockout." Acting can be so rough!
Screen Gems head Clint Culpepper is said to be "working with Knowles' and Larter's reps to iron out scheduling kinks," but the company is planning to get the film into production this summer.
'Resident Evil: Extinction' Stars Milla Jovovich & Ali Larter Go Unscripted
Filed under: Action », New Releases », Fandom », Home Entertainment », Interviews », Remakes and Sequels »
You might remember that back in August, Moviefone was looking for questions that Resident Evil: Extinction stars Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter could ask each other as part of the site's Unscripted series. Well, the questions were picked, the interview is now online, and I am very happy to report that they didn't go with the courageous "privates" question (check out the comments in the original post). Jovovich is looking ready to burst, as she's having fiance Paul W.S. Anderson's baby this fall, and Larter looks lovely, as usual. But really, this isn't about how they look -- it's about their conversation and their butt-kicking movie. The actresses discuss some fluff, the perks of kicking butt, and potential future games. Milla says she did the flicks for her little brother, and after the second, she wasn't too into the whole Resident Evil experience. However, she says that the script was so good, it changed her mind. (PR or real opinion? You decide.) Of course, Ali also got a bunch of Heroes questions, but the best moment came when they discussed the possibility of Milla joining the show, and what Jovovich thinks her special power could be. Now that is something I would pay to see. Those of you who want to see the gals kick tons of zombie ass (is there a better way to spend Saturday night? I think not) -- the movie comes out this week.
Sony Launches The Official Site For 'Resident Evil: Extinction'

Sony Pictures has launched the official site for Resident Evil: Extinction. This time around: Alice, our genetically enhanced heroine (Milla Jovovich) is lost in the wastelands of Nevada while fending off the evil plans of the Umbrella Corporation. Joining Jovovich as fellow plague survivors are Heroes' Ali Larter and R&B singer Ashanti. Also returning are Oded Fehr as Carlos Oliviera and Mike Epps as L.J. Last month we had gotten word of a new R trailer for the film and another gallery of photos released to the web. The arrival of a web site might not seem like such a big deal, especially in the current climate of viral fever, but there's plenty of cool content. There are wallpapers, screen savers, and loads of media gallerie, as well as a pretty decent online game -- but be warned; it's armed with one of those age-verification login pages.Resident Evil: Extinction was directed by Russell Mulcahy; according to this piece over at Movies Online, Paul W.S. Anderson's script has reportedly taken elements from the RE: Code Veronica. Anderson has written his share of video game flicks, including all three of the Resident Evil flicks, and directing the first one back in 2002. There had been some debate over whether Extinction was going to be the last film in the series, but Sony refers to the film as "the third and final installment", so I guess it really is the end for Alice -- I can only hope she will go out in style. Extinction hits theaters September 21st.

New Batch of 'Resident Evil' Pics Hits Web

I just watched an outdoor screening of Dazed and Confused the other day, and I was once again surprised to see Milla Jovovich in the movie. I always forget she's in there hiding among the huge cast, possibly because it's a such a small role, but more likely because she's such a sweet hippie chick in it. Four years after appearing in that film, she did The Fifth Element, then The Messenger, then Resident Evil. Now it almost seems like she only does movies in which she kicks serious ass. It's like she turned in the guitar and marijuana for guns and adrenaline. Not that any of us mind, of course, because there's no action heroine sexier than Jovovich. She's the reason many of us are looking forward to Resident Evil: Extinction (out September 12) despite the previous RE installment's extreme suckage.
For the new movie, Jovovich is joined by another geektastically hot actress, Heroes' Ali Larter. And in a gallery of stills from RE:E on Yahoo! Movies, we get to see more of Larter's presence. There's one photo of her aiming a gun, non-action-like, as though she's involved in target practice. There's another pic of her hanging out with Oded Fehr, giving us her trademark teeth-exposing, upper-lip-raising, flared-nostrile intensity. There's also one of her shaking hands with Jovovich's Alice, which we saw before. Most of the other Alice stills are repeats, too, but there is an awesome shot of her in mid-flight, about to slaughter a bald baddie with her hockey-stick-like blades. And there's another one of her parked on a BMW motorcycle. From what we've so far seen from all the images, there doesn't appear to be much diversity in scenery, but we also haven't really gotten to see much of the destroyed Vegas yet, and I'm hoping that isn't because the movie lacks great set pieces.
Resident Evil: Extinction Concept Art Revealed
Filed under: Action », Drama », Horror », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Newsstand », Games and Game Movies »
I'm probably in the minority here but I liked the first two Resident Evil movies. Sure, they each had their problems and definitely can't be considered "art." Still, for the most part, they were good, fun, escapist entertainment which if you don't think about too much, you should have a good time watching. Plus, they both featured the stunning Milla Jovovich who, for me, can pretty much do no wrong. And as much as I liked the first two movies, I was always hoping for a third installment.Fortunately, as my esteemed colleague Mark Beall reported before, it looks like I'm going to get my wish for a third go-around. Although, having to wait until September 21st will be pretty hard for me. I'm not that good at waiting. Luckily, we previously had some early production stills to tide us over and now, we've got even more tidbits to look at. Over at Kingmo they've posted some concept art for the film that will surely whet your appetite for watching Milla and her new co-star, the equally hot Ali Larter, kick some serious Zombie ass.
However, before you go over to the site and check out the art, a word of warning. The site is in German and loads very slowly -- probably due to all the Milla Jovovich fans out there furiously clicking their mice trying to refresh the page. But if you bear with it you'll be treated to some pretty cool glimpses into the production -- including weapons, vehicles, props and sets -- and what its all going to look like. Hopefully, these images will help you get through the days and weeks until September 21st. So far, they have for me.
Resident Evil: Extinction Pics for Your Enjoyment

I think my Cinematical colleague Mark Beall is spot-on when he writes that the first Resident Evil movie was pretty ok. Even if its not perfect (or even really good) in the world of video game-to-movie adaptations, it still ranks pretty high up on the list. Much higher than, say, Doom. Man, what happened there? Plus, Resident Evil has one very important thing going for it -- the exquisite Milla Jovovich. So, imagine my happiness knowing a third movie, cleverly titled Resident Evil: Extinction, is being made and will not only feature Jovovich, but also the equally hot Ali Larter as well. At the moment, we don't have many visuals that give a clue to the look of the film -- but one or two pics have surfaced. And now, there's a third one for your enjoyment -- all collected by the folks at IGN.
The first two feature Jovovich striking some provocative and deadly poses as if to say "mess with me and die." The third features the lovely Larter decked out as a kick-ass soldier striding purposefully toward camera. Of course, its almost impossible to judge a movie simply from a few pictures. However, I like the look of the costumes, weapons and the rest of what I can see. Plus, Jovovich and Larter look great so that gives me hope. Even if the movie does suck, at least we'll have something nice to look at for ninety minutes.
Resident Evil: Extinction is due to hit theaters in September of 2007.
Geek Bytes: Stan The Man and Geeky Interviews

Geek news I found while wishing I had more pumpkin cookies:- Pictures of Stan Lee at a ribbon cutting ceremony for a "grand re-opening" of a comic book storefront establishment in Los Angeles, courtesy of the fantastic CBR. Being an East Coaster, I know nothing about the place myself, but it certainly is cool of Stan the Man to show up for the event and drop a classic "Excelsior" on the crowd.
- Speaking of CBR, they just talked with Stardust creator Neil Gaiman and partner Charles Vess. As always, it is a treat. More people need to know about Neil Gaiman.
- Eager for Spider-Man 3? According to Superhero Hype, you'll be able to peep a look at a "brand new" trailer this Thursday during MTV's The Duel at 10 pm. Or, you can avoid watching MTV entirely, and catch the thing on the internet an hour or two later. Your choice.
- To continue my round-up of websites which I love, you can catch a quick discussion with Resident Evil 3 co-star Ali Larter at Sci Fi Wire. I'm not a big RE fan (unless we're talking video games and not movies), but if you are, Sci Fi Wire is here for you.
- And finally, if you want to keep tabs on what Marvel is up to in the entertainment business, I'd suggest you keep an eye on their quarterly reports. Go ahead and check them out for an idea of what Marvel's going to be up to in the coming year.
All Kinds of Genre Gravy from the Extinction Shoot

Those gore-lovin' knuckleheads over at Bloody-Disgusting.com spent a few days on the set of Resident Evil: Extinction (surrounded by women like Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory and Ali Larter, those lucky bastards) and while they haven't come back with their full set report (which, frankly, doesn't even interest me all that much), they've gleaned a few choice nuggets from the cast and crew members.Oded Fehr will be returning for RE3, and he dropped a vague little tidbit regarding a certain looming sequel: "From what I know ... they're writing one that's totally different, in a different time. Brendan (Fraser) and Rachel (Weisz) are in it." Hmph. The Mummy Returns Again? We'll see.
Stopping by to chat with Ms. Larter, the BD.com boys learned that she will not be reprising her role in the upcoming sequel to House on Haunted Hill -- even though she signed on to star in the second sequel to Resident Evil. Oh well, moving on, the gorehounds hit the mother lode when they sat down to chat with producer Jeremy Bolt, a guy who's made a lot of movies with the fanboy-controversial Paul W.S. Anderson. (Anderson directed Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, Soldier, Resident Evil, and Alien vs. Predator, if you must know.) The partners' next project will be a "less parody, more reality TV" remake of Death Race 2000, an NES-to-celluloid rendition of Castlevania, and a sequel to this movie, which looks so sinfully bad that I can't wait to see it.
