Batman 2 Plot Details

Filed under: Action », Casting », RumorMonger », Fandom », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »

Batman on Film has an absurd connection to the Batman film franchise, as tipsters always seem to be queuing up to share insider information with them. Today, they've got a line on early plot information for Batman 2 thanks to an insider they promise us is legitimate. Here are the three salient bits of information from our friendly tipster.

  • Nolan has been re-going over all of the various Batman comics even more to comb for fine details.
  • They (Nolan and co.) want it to be even darker than Begins.
  • The studio is supportive of creating something as accurate to the Batman comic books as possible and less about it being some kind of summer popcorn "mega-hit."
Awesome? Yes, yes it is. Any attempt to stay true to the pages by a major comic book film is always pleasing for the geek community, and with the great foundation of Batman Begins, Nolan and company certainly have a good starting point, an eager audience, and a willing studio. Combine that with the excellent cast he's assembled and a plot like the one described above, and you've got yourself a winner.

Robin Williams Wants to be The Joker

Here's a weird one for the ever-growing Batman sequel casting rumor mill -- although you can likely rest assured this one will remain safely in the realms of hypothetical. In a recent interview with Latino Review, none other than Robin Williams expressed his interest in playing the Joker; albeit it in an off-handed, joking (sorry) manner. Towards the end of the interview, Williams was asked if he'd like to work with Chris Nolan (Batman director) again. Williams responded in the affirmative, and then answered the follow up question of taking the role of the Joker with a resounding "Oh God yeah!"

Memory serving, good old Rob was actually considered for the role last time around, when he was young enough to pull off the part. I'm not really a huge Robin Williams fan, but I think it's fantastic he's so positive about the film in general. It'll certainly be interesting to finally learn who is really going to land this role.

Paul Bettany's Mom Wants Him to be the Joker

A quick update on the ever-turning rumor mill surrounding the villain casting in the upcoming sequel to Batman Begins. Paul Bettany, who has been practicing the role of bad guy a fair amount lately, is one of the most commonly linked names to the role of the Joker on the internet. This puts him in a proud cast of about half a dozen actors or so who are commonly discussed by fans as "frontrunners" for the part, even if the best we can do for substantial proof is a shadowy insider dropping hints about Johnny Depp. At any rate, Bettany shared a quick word with SuperHeroHype recently regarding the rumors. He says ""Nobody has rung me up officially and asked, 'Would you like to be in it?'" He goes on by indicating that the only real sources he has on the subject are friends who have told him about the internet rumors. When Hype asked him if he was flattered by the connection, he answered , "Well, I'm just wondering if my mother started the rumors." So unless Mom Beatty is in charge of casting for Nolan, it looks like we will have to wait awhile longer to have our answer.
