'Superhero Movie' Trailer!
Filed under: Comedy », Trailers and Clips »
NOTE: You can find the new trailer right here.
It's been a while since I've seen a good spoof. I don't think that I've even bothered watching one since Scary Movie. So of course, a Leslie Nielson movie that doesn't have him playing President Harris makes me curious -- especially when he's playing Uncle Ben. A trailer for Superhero Movie (previously called Superhero!) has popped up online, and you can see it right here.
As you can tell from the trailer, it looks like this flick should be called "Dragonfly-Man." It's basically a trailer full of Spider-Man spoofs, although IMDb doesn't list Spidey among the spoofs, but does list Batman Begins and Fantastic Four. That's my only real complaint about the trailer, which makes it look like it just took the Spider-Man script and spoofed it scene by scene. Still, I loved the spastic rush to change into the superhero outfit, because you just know that it isn't as easy as Spider-Man or Superman make it seem.
The comedy opens March 28, and also features Sara Paxton, Drake Bell, Christopher McDonald, Brent Spiner, Jeffrey Tambor, and Marion Ross.
Dimension Finishes Casting 'Superhero!' Spoof

I guess David Zucker wasn't satisfied with the quality of the superhero jokes in Jason Friedberg's Epic Movie, so he felt the need to make his own. Variety reports that Dimension films has finalized casting for their spoof flick, Superhero! Dimension had already cast Josh Bell (Drake and Josh), Sara Paxton (Aquamarine), Ryan Hansen (Veronica Mars) and Kevin Hart (All About Polly), but the latest additions are comedy vets. Variety reports that Naked Gun icon, Leslie Nielsen, Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), Brent Spiner (Star Trek: TNG), and Marion Ross (that's right, Mrs. Cunningham herself) have all signed on for unnamed roles.Back in 2006, while doing press for his other satirical masterpiece, Scary Movie 4, Zucker told JoBlo.com that, "Craig Mazin [SCARY MOVIE 4 writer] has written a script, and it's a...You know, we've identified about a dozen characteristics that are common to all these superhero movies, like Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men...and if you can get those common characteristics, there's a pretty good chance that the audience will share those references and you can poke fun at the cliches. So it's going to be pretty interesting." Mazin has also been signed to direct the film, and David Zucker and Robert K. Weiss will produce. Zucker and Weiss were the team behind Scary Movie 3 and 4, as well as some of the later films in the Naked Gun franchise. So it probably doesn't take much imagination to guess what the film will be about. If you have ever seen a Scary Movie, then you just switch the low-brow gags to a man in tights rather than wielding an ax. Superhero! is set for release on March 28th, 2008.
Brent Spiner Considers Data Purged

Speculation is flying left and right -- or perhaps, more accurately, port and starboard -- regarding producer (and possible director) J.J. Abrams' proposed Star Trek film, which will be the eleventh theatrical feature for the long-running franchise. As previously reported here on Cinematical, Leonard Nimoy stated that he and William Shatner had been contacted and were told that Paramount might "want some involvement" from the two actors. There have been rumors of a Young Kirk and Spock angle, but it's mostly conjecture at this point.Regardless of what may happen with the newest film, Star Trek: The Next Generation's Commander Data will not figure into the mix. "I don't think I should play Data anymore. I think I'm too old to play him anymore to be honest," actor Brent Spiner told bangshowbiz.com, as reported by Comingsoon.net. Data is, of course, an android who does not age, making the fact that Spiner is now twenty years older than when he first played the character somewhat problematic. Spiner goes on to say that he had "skated along the edge in the last couple movies" regarding the issue of his age.
Some might argue that Data's death in Star Trek: Nemesis had closed the book on the character, though to add a little conjecture of my own, none of this would preclude further appearances by Spiner as Data's creator Dr.Noonian Soong. Spiner also joked that a "very sweet deal" might entice him back onto the bridge of The Enterprise which, as our sister site TV Squad points out, is essentially the same thing Leonard Nimoy said before Star Trek III and Star Trek VI.
