SDCC Panel: Disney's 'Escape to Witch Mountain' and 'Tron 2'
Filed under: Festival Reports », Remakes and Sequels », ComicCon »

-- Race is not a sequel or a remake, but a re-imagining. They went back to the original book for inspiration, and tried to incorporate everything, but while writing a new mythology.
-- All were huge fans of the original, which drew them to the project. Johnson is particularly fond of Disney projects due to his young daughter, Gugino jumped at the chance to do a departure from the original.
-- Delving deeply into the UFO movement, essentially a UFO story.
-- More action packed to keep with the book, and also to keep up with the likes of the Harry Potter movies. Fans of the original will find Winnebagos to delight them, new fans won't have to have seen the old ones to get the story.
-- Gugino plays a "discredited astrophysicist" and Johnson a cab driver. The kids are aliens. Much ass is kicked by all the characters.
-- The original kids, Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann, are in it. People went absolutely crazy at this, and it's hinted their part is large, but no other details were forthcoming.
-- Fickman said the closest comparison to the movie was 48 Hrs or the Bourne movies. Seriously.
Tron is back ... and after the jump ...
Carla Gugino -- 'Watchmen' Pinup

Having gotten the chance to visit the Watchmen set, I thought nothing could be cooler. But even though I saw a little of what was coming, nothing compared to the trailer that came with The Dark Knight, and the long-awaited appearance of Dr. Manhattan. But there wasn't a nibblet of Carla Gugino as Sally Jupiter.
But now I give you two doses. Above there is a pin-up that was sent to AICN by artist James Jean, who created the pin-up pic for the movie (see it full-length over there). Of course, this was back during her heydey, before her daughter took over and found herself some different superhero action. After the jump, you can check out a pic that Warners sent us late last week (along with other images). It's the interlude between Jupiter and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
You know, I remember going to see Spider-Man when it came out in theaters a handful of years ago, and being all excited, but that was like finding a dollar on the side of the road compared to the bag-full-o-cash fangirl excitement I have for this film.
Casting Bites: From New York Love to Gossip Girls and Pippa Lee
Filed under: Drama », Romance », Casting »
Can you believe it's almost May? Another month of 2008 is almost over, and we've got more casting news, courtesy of Variety:- New York, I Love You already has a flipping huge and intrigue-inducing cast that ranges from Ethan Hawke to Julie Christie. Now we've got two more players in the mix. Both Carla Gugino (Sin City) and Goran Visnjic (Elektra) have signed on for a segment directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev. There's no word on what this segment will focus on, but I'll go out on a limb and say it'll feature some sort of love in New York City.
- Then there's a young actress by the name of Emilie De Ravin. If you're one of those Lost fiends out there, she's Claire Littleton in the series. On the big screen side of things, she had a lead gig in The Hills Have Eyes. But now she gets to deal with some Public Enemies. While enemies usually aren't a desirable sort of group to hang with, this melange has Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Channing Tatum, Billy Crudup, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Rory Cochrane, David Wenham ... basically, a ton of great actors, plus a bunch of beloved indie boys from the '90s. According to IMDb, she'll play Anna Patzke.
- Finally, there's the girl who made the world of Gossip Girl all the more intriguing -- Ms. Serena van der Woodsen herself, Blake Lively. She's picked up a lead role in the upcoming film The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, which stars Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder. There's no word on who she will play in the feature.
Auschwitz Thriller is 'Unborn' -- And Gets More Cast
Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Thrillers », Casting »
Remember David Goyer's Jewish-themed thriller that Scott told us about back in February? About the dybhuk -- "an angry, undead spirit that possesses a human being?" The spin was that it would be the dybhuk of a boy who died in Auschwitz, and is now terrorizing a young woman played by Cloverfield's Odette Yustman. Gary Oldman signed on to play a "spiritual specialist" and The OC's Cam Gigandet took the role of the haunted girl's boyfriend. Now, The Hollywood Reporter posts that the film has a name -- Unborn -- and more cast -- Meagan Good (Stomp the Yard), Carla Gugino (Sin City), Jane Alexander (Fur), Idris Elba (American Gangster), and Rhys Coiro (24).With the players in place, this is how it's breaking down -- Yustman's haunted girl is getting Good as a best friend, Coiro as a college professor, and Gugino as a mother. Meanwhile, Alexander is playing a Holocaust survivor and sister of the slain boy, and Elba will be a priest helping Rabbi Oldman with the exorcisms.
Oldman is enough to have me intrigued, but more in a Hebrew Hammer sort of way -- a down-and-dirty Rabbinical Spiritual Specialist. Dig it? Heck, I'm even itching to see Alexander as the sister. However, a serious Holocaust spook story? I'm not so sure. Eh, we'll see soon enough -- principal photography got underway today.
Finally! Pics of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and 50 Cent Together at Last

Some new images from the film Righteous Kill have popped up over at Collider, and we finally get our first look at Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and the legendary 50 Cent together ... in the same scene! Talk about a cinematic wet dream. And is it just me, or does Fitty look like he's about to drop a smackdown on poor Robbie D? And Pacino is all like, "You ain't no Raging Bull anymore buddy. Step off." And De Niro is like, "Step off? You tell this rapper-turned-wannabee actor to step off. I ain't steppin' off." And then Fitty is like, "I can, and will, tear you in two with my eyes."
Righteous Kill, which arrives in theaters on April 18, stars De Niro and Pacino (in their first on-screen pairing since Heat) as two New York City detectives on the hunt for a killer that may or may not be one of their own. Fitty? Wanna fess up to somethin' here? The flick also stars John Leguizamo, Donnie Wahlberg, Brian Dennehy and the ultra sexy (but not as popular as she should be) Carla Gugino, who you can see snuggling up to a very lucky De Niro in the photo below. I kid, but I actually think this film will turn out pretty good. Even if the plot covers the same old generic serial killer whodunit territory, how can it not be fun to watch this cast interact with one another? I'm definitely "game" (but don't mention that word around Fitty or else you're in for a world of pain).

First Official 'Righteous Kill' Pics!
Filed under: Drama », Fandom », Newsstand », Images »
Hmm, does this newly-released photo from the film Righteous Kill remind you of anything? A scene from another film, perhaps? One that starred Al Pacino and Robert De Niro? Anyone? Anyone? Kilmer? Empire Online has the first batch of grainy stills (what's up with the quality?) from the flick Righteous Kill, starring "Say hello to my little friend" and "You talkin' to me" opposite one another for the first time since Heat. However, in this film they're on the same side, which means we'll get to look forward to tons of face-to-face "So, how much did they pay you for dis?" action.
In Righteous Kill, Pacino and De Niro star as two NYC police officers investigating a string of murders committed by a serial killer. Directed by John Avnet, and written by Inside Man's Russell Gewirtz, Righteous Kill also stars Carla Gugino (whose character has romantic ties to De Niro -- lucky old bastard!), 50 Cent, Brian Dennehy, John Leguizamo and Donnie Wahlberg (both of whom play fellow detectives). The film is currently in post production and no release date is set -- though I imagine we'll be seeing it hit theaters in March (maybe April) of next year ... I hope. Regardless of what people think about this film -- and what they think of the aging Pacino and De Niro -- I'm pretty stoked to watch both men together again on the big screen. How about you?
Ahem ........

Are These the Fifty Best Breasts in Movie History?
Filed under: Fandom », Angelina Jolie », Lists »
Just when you think you've seen it all -- and just when you were sick of all these damn lists -- comes Film Threat's four-parter on the fifty best breasts (aka boobs, aka ta-tas) in movie history. Now they don't seem to target specific films and characters within those films; this is more of a fifty best breasts in Hollywood history, as the list centers more on the actresses -- the women -- than the roles they've taken on. My favorite part of this list has to do with the fact that they included YouTube clips featuring all of the actresses in their best, well, attire (my personal favorite has to be the clip for Chesty Morgan). Some of the clips are from films, others are these weird stalker-ish montages -- nevertheless, it's all worth a look.
By now you're probably wondering who made their list. Well, noticeably absent is Angelina Jolie (who I would've thrown on there, if only for that ultra-sexy Tomb Raider outfit). Earlier ladies include Mae West, Jane Russell, Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy Dandridge, Elizabeth Taylor, Jayne Mansfield and the lovely Sophia Loren. We also have a little of Raquel Welch, Tura Santana and Pam Grier. Some more recent ladies include Jennifer Connelly (and yes, they include video of the scene with her riding the horse in Career Opportunities), Monica Bellucci, Jennifer Tilly, Scarlett Johansson and Rosario Dawson (video from her Clerks II dance -- gotta love it!). And of course, how could they leave off those busty animated characters; Jessica Rabbit rounds out the list of fifty.
I should also note that this list was created to help raise awareness for the American Cancer Society, considering it's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So it's all for fun and a good cause; hopefully no one will be offended. That said, I've included the Chesty Morgan video after the jump because, quite frankly, it's all kinds of awesome. Do you agree with their list, or are there breasts women they left out? (Um, I'd like to be first in asking where Salma Hayek, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Carla Gugino, Eva Mendes and -- heck -- Lindsay Lohan are, just to name a few ...)

First Pics of De Niro and Pacino from 'Righteous Kill' Arrive Online!
Filed under: Drama », Thrillers », Fandom », Images »
Is it bad that part of me doesn't care whether Righteous Kill turns out to be the crummiest, most overly-hyped piece of garbage this side of the equator? Is it wrong for me to say that I'll probably enjoy it for the simple fact that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino will finally -- after all these years -- be able to share some quality screen time? And is it horrific of me to believe that these two guys could play hop-scotch for an hour and a half, and I'd still leave the theater with a smile on my face? Probably not, since I have a feeling a lot of you are in the same boat as I. I think. Yup, thanks to some dude named Sean Henri, we get a first look at De Niro and Pacino together on the set of Righteous Kill. As of now, Henri only has two pics up on his blog (although he does promise more), in which both De Niro and Pacino can be seen walking up to what appears to be an apartment door, as well as one showing them standing in front of a Tow Away Zone sign (which is the pic you see to the right of your screen -- click on it for a larger version, courtesy of Sean Henri).
Directed by Jon Avnet (who helmed the still-unreleased Pacino flick 88 Minutes), and written by Inside Man scribe Russell Gerwitz, Righteous Kill follows two veteran detectives (De Niro, Pacino) who team up to track down a serial killer. The film also stars John Leguizamo, 50 Cent, Donnie Wahlberg, Brian Dennehy and the very adorable Carla Gugino (who I just happen to have a major crush on). Martin Scorsese is also rumored to have a cameo in the film as Lt. Winnfield, although nothing official was ever announced. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he showed up for a brief scene just to have the opportunity to square off in a room against his old pal and a guy who, surprisingly, has never starred in one of his films. Go figure there, huh? Anyway, enjoy the pics and look out for Righteous Kill to hit theaters sometime next year.

Carla Gugino is 'Righteous' with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro
Filed under: Drama », Casting »
I always thought Carla Gugino looked familiar, but I couldn't quite place it until Scott Weinberg mentioned Troop Beverly Hills in his post about the actress becoming burlesque superheroine Sally Jupiter in the upcoming Watchmen flick. She's come a long way since her first movie role! After really making a name for herself with Spy Kids, she made men across the planet drool for her Lucille in Sin City. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Gugino is taking on another law role in the upcoming Righteous Kill movie that's headed by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro -- the flick about two cops trying to catch a serial killer. 50 Cent has already been cast as a drug dealer who helps the duo, and Donnie Wahlberg has signed on for an unspecified role. Gugino will play the female lead -- "a crime-scene investigator with a dark personal life who enters into a relationship with De Niro's character." Lucky man! The film comes from the pen of Inside Man scribe Russell Gewirtz, which should mean good things for the script, and will be directed by Fried Green Tomatoes helmer Jon Avnet. Topping all of that off, IMDb lists that Martin Scorsese has a role as "Lieutenant Winnfield." It's looking to be an interesting production, and at the very least, it'll be nice to see Pacino and De Niro together, and to see the latter all tough again. And, of course, more tough Gugino.
'Watchmen' Add Carla Gugino as Sally Jupiter!
For some reason, the lovely and talented Carla Gugino has really struck a chord with the movie geeks over the last several years. Let's start at the beginning and see if we can figure out why. Like a lot of actress, Ms. G cut her teeth on bit parts in TV shows like Who's the Boss?, ALF and Saved by the Bell. Her first movie appearance came in the dire Shelley Long* comedy Troop Beverly Hills, and she followed that up with parts in Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael, This Boy's Life, Miami Rhapsody, and the only halfway-watchable Pauly Shore comedy: Son in Law. She also contributed a fine supporting role in De Palma's Snake Eyes, if memory serves. But it was the role of "hot mom" Ingrid Cortez in Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids series that made Gugino a semi-household name. (Well, around my household anyway.) That role led to a very memorable part in Sin City, which...
Oops, I think I just figured it out why all the movie geeks love Carla Gugino these days. This is a family-friendly blog, so I'll keep this PG-rated, but ... she bares her boobies quite clearly in Sin City, and (to quote a beloved Seinfeld episode) they're
According to ComingSoon.net (who got it from The Hollywood Reporter, although I can't find it on the THR website), Carla Gugino has joined the (very slick) ensemble cast on Zack Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's Watchmen. She'll be playing a character known as Sally Jupiter (aka Silk Spectre, aka the mom of another Silk Spectre), who is not only a superheroine, but an (ahem) burlesque dancer as well. (As if I didn't already want to see this movie, right?) Carla joins a cast swollen with solid names: Patrick Wilson, Billy Crudup, Jackie Earle Haley, etc., etc. (For more on this highly-anticipated project, check out our previous reports here, here and here. Or heck, just throw "Watchmen" into our search bar. Everyone's been covering the hell out of this project!)
* I do believe this marks the very first time that Shelley Long's name has ever been mentioned at Cinematical. A toast to Shelley Long!
