'Children of Men' Becoming a TV Show
Filed under: Drama », Home Entertainment », Remakes and Sequels »
After watching the stunning, and sadly under appreciated, Children of Men, I was hungry for two things. One, I wanted more movies with Julianne Moore and Clive Owen, as they have great chemistry together, and barely got to show it. Two, I wanted to see more of this world. It's a rich and interesting future landscape, one that is filled with tons of stories that we've never seen. Until now.SciFi.com reports that the executive producer of Bionic Woman, David Eick, is writing a pilot script for a television series based on P.D. James' science fiction novel (the one that inspired the movie). Eick says: "It's really taking root more in the origins of the novels in that it will focus on the cultural movement in which young people become the society's utter focus." He goes on to make parallels between the obsession with LiLo's crazy tabloid lifestyle, and says: "it's about how, when you don't have a responsibility to the next generation and you're free to do whatever you want, where do you draw the line?"
If the success of Battlestar Galactica is any indication, this should be one great series. I've never been bugged to watch a show more than my friends pestering me to watch BG, which I will have to at some point, if for no other reason than my love of "frak" (as discovered on Veronica Mars). Obviously, I'll be anxiously awaiting this show, but how about you? Do you think the epic world of Children of Men will be good on the boob tube?
'Battlestar Galactica' Finally To the Big Screen?

I've put the question mark in the title to indicate this post is in more of the "wishful thinking" category than an expression of actual, confirmed fact. Still, its fun to speculate and wish for things to happen. Believe me, if wishing made it so (and I had my way) we would see a steady stream of Battlestar Galactica movies produced every couple years like Bond films. Although, its not like there haven't been rumors and reports about feature film versions of the series before. Still, nothing concrete or completely reliable has emerged and now, according to IESB, we might finally know one of the major reasons a Battlestar Galactica movie isn't going full speed ahead yet. According to the site, TV series Exec. Producers Ron Moore and David Eick are excited about the prospect of a feature film version of their TV show and really want to make it happen. In fact, they've spoken about it on numerous occasions -- most recently at the big Battlestar event held last week in Los Angeles. So, if they want it to happen, what's standing in the way? Well, according to the article, one of the major hurdles, other than actual funding, is original Battlestar Galactica series creator Glen A. Larson who holds the feature film rights to the series.
Unfortunately for those of us who might wish for a feature film, Larson has made no secret that he's not a huge fan of the re-imagined series produced by Moore and Eick. Plus, Larson has always maintained that he would eventually produce a feature film based on his original series and its characters. So, if they want to bring a feature film version of their Battlestar series to the big screen, the first thing Moore and Eick are going to have to do is play nice with Larson and convince him its a good idea. Until then, we'll just have to be content with watching one of the best shows ever to appear on television. Which, if you think about it, really isn't all that bad.
Battlestar Galactica Movie Confirmed by Producers

The title of this post says it all. According to an interview given by exec. producers Ron Moore and David Eick in the Chicago Tribune, they are developing and will be making a feature film version of one of the best shows on television: Battlestar Galactica. The film, which will feature all the same cast and crew, will bridge the gap between the TV show's third and fourth seasons. It will not, however, resolve the cliffhanger left at the end of season three which, according to Moore and Eick, "will take the show in a new and shocking direction."Now, before you get too excited about the new film and go out and starting rioting in the streets celebrating it, I'm not talking about an actual theatrically released movie here -- at least not yet. Which is too bad because it would be really cool to see the show on the big screen. Although, it does look pretty great in HD now so I guess I'll survive without the big screen experience if it never comes. What I am talking about, however, is still a movie but one that will most likely go directly to DVD and also be shown on the Sci-Fi channel. So, not exactly a movie in the strictest sense of the word but still, close enough for me and, I'm sure, any fan of the show.
According to Moore and Eick, they will go forward with the film unless, for some reason, the show does not come back for a fourth season. In that case, the film is off and they will both be looking for work. As you may know, I love Sci-Fi and Battlestar Galactica is a great show that deserves all the exposure, versions and incarnations that it can possible get. So, I'm pretty excited by this announcement. Not rioting in the streets excited but . . . . Oh, one more thing. The interview also gives away some details about upcoming episodes of the show and what may happen to certain characters so if you don't want to know any of that stuff, stay away. In other words, spoiler alert! Don't say I didn't warn you
