Aww, yeah! Millenium Films and Lionsgate have debuted the first full trailer for Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables – you know, the movie starring just about EVERY awesome action star of the last few decades in some plot about overthrowing some dictator or another while amassing the biggest body count imaginable . In short: pure awesomeness captured on celluloid. What's that noise, you ask? Why yes, it is the sound of the entire internet experiencing what is known as a collective nerdgasm.
Now hurry up and watch the trailer so you can start integrating "Bring it, Happy Feet!" into your daily lexicon.

Dolph Lundgren isn't the first name that springs to mind when you think "chemical engineer," is it? You might be surprised to know that the guy who has made a career out of playing muscular bad dudes in movies has a masters in that field from the University of Sydney, and he was also a Fulbright scholar to MIT. However, he dropped out after two weeks to pursue acting full time, and that's left us with his performances in everything from Rocky IV to The Punisher to Universal Soldier.
He'll also be going toe to toe with Sylvester Stallone once more in The Expendables, but we found him returning to his Universal Soldier roots at Fantastic Fest in Austin with a sneak peek at Universal Soldier: A New Beginning. Read on beyond the break for the full interview, including an homage to Rocky IV that you'll see in onscreen.
Poll: Who Wants Arnold Schwarzenegger Back in Movies?

By now you may have already heard the news that Arnold Schwarzenegger will return to the big screen in a cameo role as himself in Sylvester Stallone's veteran-heavy action flick The Expendables. AICN broke the news last night, saying Arnie will play Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger -- that he'll be shooting for one day, and the Governor will have ties to Stallone's character, Barney Ross. Additionally, Latino Review adds that Danny Trejo has joined the flick, while AICN notes that Eric Roberts has replaced Ben Kingsley in a cast that already includes Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Sandra Bullock, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Forest Whitaker. And I'm sorry, but if that retro badass cast can't churn out a fun flick, then I've lost all hope in humanity.
With the news out of the way, let's turn to the topic at hand. Obviously Arnold is itching to get back in front of the camera in some way, shape or form (we still don't know what version of the Governor we'll see in the next Terminator film), but do we, as fans, want to see him return to movies or should the guy stick to politics? Is the Schwarzenegger era over, or is there still room for the guy to make a highly successful flick?

Casting Bites: A 'Tempest', a 'Universal Soldier', and One 'Library Cat'

I've already told you about the excellent news that Julie Taymor is cooking up a Tempest starring Helen Mirren. Now The Hollywood Reporter has listed two other names added to the already impressive cast list: Chris Cooper and Reeve Carney. Cooper will play that dastardly usurper Antonio, while Carney gets to be the son of the king of Naples, or in other words, the son of Jeremy Irons. Between the material, and Taymor, and this cast, I predict one hell of an amazing Shakespeare adaptation. But even if it's merely a fraction of Titus, it should still be good.And there's also that little bit about Jean Claude Van Damme heading back to the world of Universal Soldier. Remember how he said that he was told that there wouldn't be any value in casting Dolph Lundgren? Well, now MTV has talked to Mr. Lundgren, who says that is "absolutely untrue." In fact, he goes on to say he's been resisting the film because it needs some work. He thinks it should be all Dolph and Jean-Claude again. I just can't believe the guy who wants to be taken seriously (JCVD) is in a movie even Lundgren wouldn't sign up for.
In much more vanilla news -- Variety reports that Meryl Streep is going to the cats. Well, more precisely, she's signed on to star in Dewey -- a film about "a stray cat's impact on the town of Spencer, Iowa." If that sounds too random to be fiction, that's because it is. The fact-based story is about the author of Dewey (Streep), Vicky Myron, who was working at the local library when a kitten got into the library on a cold night through the after-hours book slot. The feline then became a library mascot and heart-warmer. A pretty damned cute one too.
Cinematical Seven: When Macho Actors Go Soft

Another macho man has made the obligatory leap into the kiddie pool. This time it's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who has gone and starred opposite a child in this weekend's new release The Game Plan. Could it damage his potential for further tough guy roles? Does he care? He's already signed on to another kid friendly part in Witch Mountain, so perhaps he's no longer worried about audiences accepting him as a muscle man with attitude.
The Rock, like Vin Diesel before him, may have jumped the gun on doing a Disney family film before securing an iconic place next to Schwarzenegger, Stallone and other action hero types. His movie may therefore lack that necessary extreme between the character we associate with The Rock and the character he must take on for the movie -- like the type of contrast that made Kindergarten Cop so funny.
But there are worse things he could do. Other action stars and macho actors have made some pretty terrible mistakes that had nothing to do with working with kids, and many of these mistakes were career altering. Let's just hope Dwayne Johnson never has to suffer such ideas as these:
1. Junior (1994, Ivan Reitman)
For a macho guy, finding out you have a kid is domesticating, but finding out you're pregnant is emasculating. Nothing says an action hero has gone soft like giving him a bun in the oven, and it's no wonder that Arnold Schwarzenegger had difficulty maintaining his image in action movies for the next decade -- until Terminator 3. I'm certain that if The Rock tried doing a movie in which he's with child rather than with a child, he'd cause far more problems for his career. At least Schwarzenegger had just a few months earlier released True Lies, and fans likely held onto the hope he would be back on top one day.
Lundgren, Van Damme and Norris Are Cooking Up Plans

It's been 15 years since Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme starred together as re-animated soldiers in Universal Soldier, and their spotlight started to fade. Since then, well... Van Damme has been busy with drugs, strippers and imagining himself roles in pointless sequels. As for Dolph, he's still making low-budget films and farting around with Grace Jones while winning his battle against fame. But now he wants all of his old glory back.According to andPOP, the Rocky IV star told Empire Magazine that he's itching to unite with Van Damme and Chuck Norris on-screen. Undeterred by age, Lundgren believes that the trio can overcome some creaking bones and scheduling issues to pull it off: "...it would be great to make a movie with the 80s action rat pack.....there are issues with schedules and age and so on, but maybe I'll be the one to make it happen." Or, maybe he's wondering if the two floundering powerhouses of the 80s (Van Damme and himself), can latch onto Norris' continuing fame? And don't leave Steven Seagal out in the cold. He hates what his cinematic life has become!
"I was talking to Chuck Norris' people about doing something with him, maybe an action comedy?" Sure, Drago. Now that Norris has been a long-standing Texas Ranger, saved the Dodgeball day and gotten his own facts website -- what flailing action star wouldn't be jealous? Dolph, just because Norris got his own song, doesn't mean you will too. However, I'm willing to look past your scheme and delight in a trip back to the 80s. Or rather, an action version of The Crew.
