When Venom was finally revealed back in 2006, there were some apprehensions, but for the most part, anticipation was huge for the third Spider-Man movie. Then it came out, and even the die-hard fans seemed to be at least somewhat disappointed. What really sucks in these situations is when over-all disappointment tarnishes good bits. I imagine that Marvel is thinking the same thing. According to IESB, Eddie Brock and Venom are going to get their own film.

The site says that since the rights to Venom have reverted back to Marvel (New Line had 'em), they are meeting up with a number of "A-list writers" to work on a spin-off film. (They're not sure on how Sony fits into all of this.) IESB says: "We have to assume that since there is movement, and there has been recent meetings with writers, this property must belong to Marvel since they have made an interim agreement with the WGA."

It's not every day that we get the possibility of an evil spin-off. This could be cool, although a bit tricky with the whole Spider-Man part of it (even without the webbed hero as a star, the symbiote grabbed Parker first). But that's just me... What do you think?

I'll be the first to admit to being excited about Spider-Man 3, having been somewhat blown away by the trailers, the footage and the images released online thus far. But, there comes a point when you've seen enough -- and, with only a month and a half before the film is set to hit theaters, you'd rather keep your eyes closed and hope there's at least a few surprises that haven't been ruined yet. With that said, a new batch of Spidey 3 pics have arrived to keep the high going, just as last week's exclusive footage buzz is starting to wear off.

This time around, we're provided with a very cool pic that shows Venom choking Spider-Man from below. Though he's somewhat out of focus, you tell he means business. There's also an image of what looks to be an explosion occurring in the middle of the woods, as well as two nice shots of Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard) looking all sexy and big-chested; unfortunately, the second shot also includes Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) kicking some weak game. Finally, we have a shot of Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) and Harry Osborn (James Franco) staring up at something (sinister?) heading in their direction, as Spider-Man balloons float nearby. If it were up to me, this would be the last set of images we see. While I congratulate the Spidey marketing team on practically handing us the entire film prior to its release, how about we leave the rest up to our wicked imaginations? Spider-Man 3 opens everywhere on May 4.

Though cool footage and pictures are unlikely to quell fanboy rumblings that Topher Grace is too small to play Eddie Brock/Venom, Sony last night gave ComicCon attendees their first look at Grace as the character. According to a report at JoBlo, footage from Spider-Man 3 was screened and, though "a bit rough in spots" (I'm assuming that means it's unfinished, as opposed to bad), it showed all sorts of cool stuff, from a fight between Spidey and Sandman to MJ caught in Venom's webs. Oh, and it also included the minor event of Brock's transformation in Venom, a scene that, not surprisingly, "[brought] the house down." (That said, what clips at ComicCon don't bring the house down?! People go there primed to love everything -- that's why studios reveal stuff there, for God's sake.)

To coincide with the big reveal, Sony added some Venom wallpaper to their official site for the film. Maybe going and staring at it will make your forget that the movie doesn't come out until next May.

Well, look at what we have here -- it's our good friend Tobey Maguire pulling back his shirt to reveal a black Spidey suit. While there's not much to see, it's our first official (minus the questionable teaser poster) glance at that infamous black suit. But is it a real picture?

Spider-Man 3 invaded New York City this weekend, reportedly shooting a big elaborate scene in midtown. Lucky for us, a few fans managed to snap an assortment of photos and send them to AICN. Hooray! Since it's obvious these were taken within the city, the majority feel as if these pictures are the real deal. Along with this shot of Tobey is a first look at Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. Ya know, before he turns into Venom. As an added bonus, there's also a few far away shots of Captain Stacy (James Cromwell) and Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard). With production all over the streets this weekend, look for a few more photos to pop up soon. When that happens, we've got you covered.
