The Key to Getting 'Wanted 2' -- Write About Pooh!

Filed under: Action », Deals », Scripts », Remakes and Sequels »

We have slipped into an alternate universe.

A link between Wicked and Wanted I can get. They may not be the same sort of cinematic beast, but they both have their appeal. However, if you take that Oz-filled family adventure and young it up a whole bunch, and turn it into the tale of a bear who loves honey, the link is lost. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Wanted 2 has found a screenwriter to whip up all that trajectory-bending action -- Pooh's Heffalump Movie scribe Evan Spiliotopoulos.

That's not all he's written. There's also The Jungle Book 2, The Lion King 1 1/2, Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning, and Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure. Okay, he also has a few crappy films that came with the deluge of family fare, and a pen in Terra, but how did this guy get picked?

He must have really knocked everyone's socks off with Agnes Quill: An Anthology of Mystery, a graphic novel he just adapted, to get this gig. But even that is a family film. If Michel Gondry had to prove his worth to direct The Green Hornet, this guy must've done something extra to convince them.

What say you, Wanted fans? Do you want more crazy bullet action if a Heffalump's attached?

New Flicks: Shoe Addicts, Big Questions, and Agnes Quill

I don't know about you, but I was sure hoping that Hollywood would give us more movies about women and their love of shoes. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Beth Harbison's Shoe Addicts Anonymous is heading to the big screen. The plot is exactly as you'd imagine it -- four women who meet up and chat about shoes. Tapping into the Sex and the City sort of scenario, there's the trophy wife of a senator, a phone sex operator, a nanny, and the lead, a woman in massive consumer debt. Actress and writer Laurie Taylor-Williams has been tapped to adapt the novel.

And while these women join over love of shoes, a couple might be heading for the dumping bin for a classically stupid reason. The Hollywood Reporter also posts that we've got a new wedding-centric comedy on the way called The Big Question. Written by TV writer Andrew Lenchewski to be directed by 30 Rock's Michael Engler, the film focuses on a couple's mind games as he plans to propose on New Year's Eve and his girlfriend plans an unspoken deadline of Christmas Eve.

Finally, we've got a female-centric film that is blissfully lacking the overused stereotypes. Variety reports that Paramount has grabbed the screen rights to Dave Roman's graphic novel Agnes Quill: An Anthology of Mystery for Thor Freudenthal to direct and Evan Spiliotopoulos to adapt. Agnes is a 16-year-old girl who inherits not only her grandfather's estate, but also his ability to talk to the dead. So just like Ricky Gervais got swamped by the dead masses in Ghost Town, Agnes becomes the focus of her town's passed population. It sounds cute, and could certainly make for a fun tale.

Christina Ricci Turns Yellow for the Movies

Filed under: Animation », Casting », Family Films »

While she made a name for herself with her stint as Wednesday Addams, Christina Ricci has always dipped into brighter and colorful fare here and there. Before the goth, she was Kate in Mermaids, and after, she wiggled her colorful toe socks in The Ice Storm, performed that sexy, bowling alley dance in pale blue for Buffalo '66, and even went a shade of Pumpkin. But with the recent Speed Racer, she took it to another level: super, ultra-vibrant, unrealistic color.

But that's nothing compared to her next gig, which doesn't have her changing race like Robert Downey Jr., but has her going yellow. Crayon yellow. Luckily, it's not live-action. The Hollywood Reporter posts that she is going to voice the lead in a new animated CG feature called The Hero of Color City. She'll play a timid crayon called Yellow, who is one of many crayons threatened when "an evil tyrant" appears to remove color from their world. Could a timid, yellow gal be the hero? The picture was penned by J.P. McCormick, Rich Raczelowski, and Evan Spiliotopoulos, and will be directed by Becky Bristow.

There is already talk of "merchandise, art supplies, and educational products," so expect a big wave of crayon-centric marketing and coloring books coming our way. At least this marketing kick will inspire tykes to create things.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oni Press just inked another deal with Universal. This time, it is for The Last Call, a two volume series by Vasilis Lolos. The adaptation will be penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos.

The story is a horror-adventure about two young teens who are out for a joyride in a stolen car, when they are struck by a "ghost train." The train is responsible for ferrying departed souls from one dimension to another, and the boys find themselves in a bit of trouble when they are caught riding without a ticket. In trying to escape, they find themselves embroiled in a mystery that, if solved, may allow them to return to the living.
