Exclusive: 'Fool's Gold' Pictures!
Filed under: Comedy », Romance », Images »

I must admit -- I was not a fan of Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey's How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. That being said, I like Hudson and McConaughey, and I like good romcoms, so I'm pretty curious about their next flick, Fool's Gold. The film stars McConaughey as Ben, a treasure hunter obsessed with a specific exotic treasure lost at sea in the 1700s. Hudson plays his estranged wife, Tess, who goes to work on Nigel Honeycutt's (Donald Sutherland) fancy yacht. When Ben finds a big clue about the treasure, he convinces Honeycutt to join him on the search, and rekindles things with Tess.
If a gorgeous locale and two alluring people aren't enough to whet your appetites, how about Sutherland, or heck, Ewen Bremner! Seeing that picture above, all I want to do is sit back, see what Sutherland made of this role, and drink a mojito. How about you?
Robert Carlyle Knows You Know

In the 90's, I was sure that Robert Carlyle was going to make it big. He made many fans as the comically acidic Begbie in Trainspotting*, and then followed it up with a huge and more mainstream hit, The Full Monty. However, while he hasn't completely faded from the spotlight, and has found himself recent stints in films like 28 Weeks Later and Eragon, he's not half as successful as I expected. Then again, I absolutely loved Plunkett & Macleane, which slipped by most people's radars, so my Carlyle-dar is a bit off.I am, however, quite excited about his latest project. He has just signed on to star in I Know You Know. It's a Welsh coming-of-age drama, but it has two kickers. First, IMDb says that Ewen Bremner is already on the cast list, which means a bit of a Trainspotting reunion. Second, it's being directed by Justin Kerrigan, who has also written the script. His lone other credit is 1998's Human Traffic -- the light, club culture movie, which was far from a critical success, but definitely had entertainment value. (One of the film's stars, John Simm, recently wrapped up a devilish stint as "The Master" on Doctor Who.) The film will follow a boy who gets caught up in the espionage work of his dad -- who is, obviously, going to be played by Carlyle. Here's to the hope that it's a decent little film, and something to satiate the desire to see Porno come to the big screen, since Danny Boyle isn't ready for it yet.

Death at a Funeral for MGM

In a move that serves to remind us that
MGM is now primarily a
distributor, the company has acquired the rights to Death at a Funeral, a dark comedy from independent
production company Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, one of the indie groups that signed an early, non-exclusive
distribution deal with MGM. Though MGM owns domestic rights, international sales remain with SKE, which will try to
sell the film at Cannes. The movie will be direct by Frank Oz, and "revolves around a dysfunctional Brit family as they gather to mourn the passing of their patriarch." Needless to say, what with the film being a comedy and all, things don't go as smoothly as planned at the funeral. Oz will have a pretty good cast on his hands when production begins, including Matthew Macfadyen, Peter Dinklage and Ewen Bremner, who you may remember as the homelier of the two Trainspotting Ewans (he was Spud).
