Fan Made: Han Frozen in Carbonite Cake

Yeah, okay. So this isn't the first Fan Made post about carbonite. Erik has already shared George Lucas frozen in the tough stuff, but this new Fan Made is a whole lot tastier (I presume). I mean, George could be a conversation starter and all, but it's also a little bit scary, I imagine very pricey, and you can't eat it.
But you can eat the above.Today a friend sent me a link to Michele's Confectionary Delights, where I found the super-awesome cake above. While it's not a spitting image of Han Solo, I just love this cake -- it's a good example of a little ingenuity trumping over exact replicas. That being said, I can't imagine how hard it would be to cut into the sucker -- not because it's covered in carbonite, but because it looks so darned good.

Have any of you ever received a cake so cool? Maybe if you live near that Ace of Cakes dude...

Fan Made: Becoming Iron Man

Some, I'm sure, watched Iron Man wishing they were the lucky one-night paramours of Tony Stark. Others, of course, just wanted that super awesome suit. Well, if you're one of the latter, you should really head on over to hacknmod.com. The website has been posting a bunch of DIY projects they've found on building your own personal Iron Man. (If only someone could also come up with a money tree or a sweet inheritance DIY project too ...) There are step-by-step guides, videos of the creations, and pictures of it from the film.

Make the hand repulsor. Whip up an arc reactor. Better yet -- make yourself an Iron Man mask. What's next? The whole flipping suit? If someone pulls that off, I'll be mighty impressed.

However, if The Dark Knight is more up your alley, they've also posted a super-cute USB bat spotlight. To the bat cave!

Fan Made: Rorschach Plush!

The ink blottage might make it look like Rorschach only has eyes and eyebrows, but I just had to share the plush doll "tamakins37" posted on craftster. The crafty poster made this little thing for a Christmas present last year, and I have to say -- it's pretty darned cute. If only Doc Manhattan could pop into our reality and create that funky fabric. A morphing ink blot face would be the perfect touch... Maybe someone out there will make a bigger felt toy with interchangable ink blot faces? That would be so very excellent.

The movie hits theaters next year, but in the meantime, check out all of Cinematical's Watchmen coverage. It's going to be one heck of a movie.

Fan Rant: When Movie Fandom Gets Crafty

Fandom. It makes people do crazy things. People worship; people cherish; and people band together to fight. These days, we have heard all about that Fanboys debacle, which rages on while the film sits, tapping its impatient fingers. But that's only one aspect of fandom. There's also those love-filled homemade fan creations.

But this post is really all due to the picture above. Now, I've seen many funky fan crafts over the years, but this one I just loved. David Lynch isn't the sort of man who gets a ton of fan recreations, and honestly, aside from my still-unfinished oil painting of Jack Nance, this is the first one I've seen. It's simple, yet oh so bloody cool.

I have to admit it: I have an addiction to creating and appreciating funky things -- whether they be large, wine cork platters, a chess-themed birthday cake, or making a pair of underwear with Christopher Walken's face on the front. (Yes, I have a pair of Walken underthings. No, I will not share a picture.) I've always liked making things because, well, it's fun to do. But it also allows you to be original. Instead of paying someone to show your inner fan or inner taste, you can make something unique and filled with your own time and appreciation.
