Penélope Cruz is Stopping by 'Sex and the City 2' & One Jerk Returns

Filed under: Comedy », Drama », Romance », Casting », Remakes and Sequels »

Whipping up a sequel to a big box office hit means amping up the wow factor, and it looks like Sex and the City 2 is going cameo crazy. We already heard about Liza Minelli being part of the rumored wedding (her involvement in the film has since been confirmed), that Barbra Streisand might pop by, and now it looks like Penélope Cruz is going to get inappropriate with Mr. Big.

People reports that the actress is popping up in a scene where she wears "a sexy backless black dress" and "gets a little too close to Mr. Big." But she's not just a sexy passerby -- sources say she's playing a banker. Super-sexy garb and snuggling aren't the usual bankerly actions, but the entire context of her scene is missing, so I'm not about to guess.

Meanwhile, Ms. Minelli was filming for three days, and sung "Every Time I Say Goodbye" for the crew. But perhaps the biggest news is that Jason Lewis is also appearing. SatC fans know Mr. Lewis is otherwise known as Smith Jerrod -- Samantha's ex who went from super-sweet boyfriend who stuck by her during cancer to plastic-like Hollywood star who was a cold ass, to put it bluntly. This could make the Samantha Jones rumors be true, or just be something to throw us off. Me, I'm hoping she kicks his butt to the curb. Same with Big and the inappropriate banker. The men-being-jerks scenario has been played to death.

All the Guys are Back for More 'Sex and the City'

Leaving out any of the main players would've made things tricky, but it looks like the feature film for Sex and the City needn't worry. In August, Mr. Big (Chris Noth) officially signed on, and now the last of the male stragglers have followed suit. Along with the ladies, Big, and Evan Handler, better known as the best-husband-ever Harry Goldenblatt, MTV has posted that Samantha's love stud Jerry "Smith" Jerrod (Jason Lewis) and Miranda's hooch-serving husband Steve Brady (David Eigenberg) will also be along for the ride. I guess this means that all of the women have, indeed, found men to stick, and that none of the guys have been added to the ex-ranks that house post-it jerks, mama's boys, drunks, and a harem of other questionable men.

Although the movie is going to start filming this week in, of course, Manhattan, there hasn't been too much word on new blood. The lone new addition to be released is Jennifer Hudson, who will play Carrie's assistant -- one that is already sounding classier than Carrie's pro-virginity fan and wanna-be helper who can spot crabs. Unfortunately, we're also still waiting for any sort of news on what the heck this film will be about. As Erik mentioned before, TVSquad found some spoilers, but they are of the random variety -- holidays featured in the flick, a description of some new characters. How they all fit together -- that's anyone's guess!

Personally, I'd like to see some of the past struggles wrapped up and a film full of the same ladies, but without the same gripes. It would be great for Steve to notice that Miranda bends over backward for him, and isn't as self-centered as he always insinuates. Charlotte finally has a baby, so maybe she'll become a top show dog lady, or maybe head back into art. Samantha beat cancer, and welcomed her sex drive back, but I still want to see how her and Smith function -- they've got the sex and the love, but do they have anything else in common? And finally, Carrie. She nabbed the uncatchable fish, so hopefully this feature doesn't follow her and Aidan's wedding qualms, but what would be her new struggle? She's got the written success, the man, the friends, and the city.

Jaime King and Jason Lewis Look for 'The Pardon'

There once was a woman named Toni Jo Henry. As the story goes, she was an attractive girl who at the young age of 16, become a leading prostitute at a local brothel. (Yes, another movie with a prostitute, but at least this time the story is real.) She is sent to the neighboring Texas on a sex assignment and meets an outlaw called Cowboy Henry. She falls for the man and marries him, even though he's only free on bail, awaiting sentencing for manslaughter. Their obviously normal and functional relationship (note sarcasm) is dashed when he gets a 50-year sentence. "Smartly," she vows to get him out. So she collects a bunch of guns and starts searching for a getaway car. Pretending to hitchhike, she snares a driver (who she strips and some say dragged to a field by his extra appendage with pliers) and kills him. Before getting to her love, she was arrested and sentenced to death.

That made her the first and only women to be executed in Louisiana -- by electrocution. Now some of the older members of Shreveport are getting a bit of a blast from the past. The Pardon is currently filming there, detailing Henry's short and troubled life. The description on IMDb seems to focus more on the aftermath -- apparently she killed the guy on Valentine's Day, planned to rob a bank and also drew lots of media attention because of her good looks. Jaime King is starring as Henry, and Jason Lewis co-starring as the Cowboy she loved. You probably remember King from her stint at the flaxen-haired Goldie in Sin City or maybe by her stints in Pearl Harbor or in the super-awesome Cheaper by the Dozen 2. As for Lewis, he was Samantha's Absolut Hunk on Sex and the City, and his film roles have included The Jacket and My Bollywood Bride. I wasn't quite expecting a model-hottie for the convicted Cowboy, but then again, bad guy isn't synonymous with bad looking, as Henry's life has shown. Tom Anton is the writer/director, whose lone other credit is 2005's At Last. It sounds like this will come down to how well its made. If they get enough good period feel in and don't make it too cheesy, this could be pretty interesting.
