The "new" Friday the 13th gets a director

Filed under: Horror », Deals », New Line », Newsstand », Remakes and Sequels »

So, it turns out that the new installment of Friday the 13th is actually a remake of the very first film in the series, not a prequel. Well, mostly - it's a remake that's being tweaked a bit. Like the original, the remake will be set at Crystal Lake but, unlike the first film which was virtually Jason-free, "it is known that Jason will wear the mask and will kill." Well thank goodness for that - I don't know about you, but I was worried. To direct the film, New Line went out and scored themselves the perfect man: Jonathan Liebesman, who is just coming off directing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Hey, the guy may be a hack, but no one can say Liebesman doesn't know from revisiting classic horror, that's for damn sure.

I'm not the only one who thinks this whole concept is completely insane, am I? What, did they run out of people to kill, or something? Perhaps the goal is to create a feedback loop of sorts, within which the series will never actually end - by the time they get done remaking the final original (using the term loosely) film, the current remake will be ripe for a revisit. Why, the franchise will never end - it's genius! Quick, someone call Sylvester Stallone!

Happy Friday the 13th!
