Casting Bites: Marc Senter, Katrina Bowden, and Johnny Simmons
Filed under: Comedy », Drama », Horror », Independent », Casting »
Here are some Variety casting bites for the next wave of actors and actresses:- Picking up a role in Lindsay Lohan's I Know Who Killed Me probably wasn't the best move, but Marc Senter is following it up with a number of alternatives. He's got two horror flicks on the way, Wicked Lake and Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, plus two new films -- Hippy and Ironclad. However, maybe he didn't learn his lesson because it seems that Hippy is a flick starring Lohan. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again!
- Next up is 30 Rock's towheaded Cerie, Katrina Bowden. It seems that she's just finished filming Sex Drive with James Marsden. This is that weird teen sex comedy that Jessica blogged about the other day. Unfortunately, there's no word on who she plays -- an object of teen affection, I would assume. Whatever the case, her career is definitely moving forward from her first gig as an actress in a Fall Out Boy music video.
- And last, but not least, we have Johnny Simmons, who is going to get a hand on Jennifer's Body. Yes, he's nabbed himself a lead role in Diablo Cody's pic, although exactly who he is playing remains to be seen. This should be a good balance between all the roles that the new actor has on his plate -- heroes, family flicks, and horror... After his stint as the kid in Evan Almighty, he's filmed The Spirit, and is currently dealing with that Hotel for Dogs.
Lisa Kudrow Reserves Space in the 'Hotel for Dogs'

With production set to begin next month, the Hotel for Dogs is about to turn off its vacancy sign. In June, I alerted you to the project when Thor Freudenthal was tapped to direct Lois Duncan's children's book from the '70s, about two orphaned teens who hide stray dogs in an abandoned hotel. After getting a director, Eric Roberts' offspring, Emma Roberts, was tapped to star as one of the kids, and then Don Cheadle signed on to play the orphans' social worker. Now we've got much of the cast in place, although there's still no familial cohort for Roberts in sight.Topping the recent additions is Friends alum Lisa Kudrow, fresh off the upcoming Butler/Swank romance, P.S., I Love You. She will play the foster parent of the two dog-loving kids, which will be a bit of a contrast to her other upcoming work -- she's going to produce and star in a black comedy called Intense Girl Scouts. The other new cast member is Johnny Simmons, who recently hit the screen in Evan Almighty, and who is already set to play the young Denny Colt in The Spirit. Since the brother spot is still open, Simmons will be playing Roberts' crush.
They don't have too much time left, so hopefully they pick a co-star soon. Otherwise, it'll be mighty weird to see Roberts act with an imaginary person, and it will be an entirely different story. Instead of a feel-good tale of two kids and some cute canines, she'd be talking to people who aren't there and surrounding herself with dogs -- first step, foster, second step, asylum!
Sarah Paulson Joins Frank Miller's 'The Spirit'

Well, The Spirit may be slutty, as Christopher Campbell pointed out, but he's still going to have a true, cinematic love. The Hollywood Reporter has posted that Sarah Paulson is joining the cast. She will play the police commissioner's daughter, Dr. Ellen Dolan -- who is also, of course, Denny Colt/The Spirit's true love. Paulson is the actress who played Harriet Hayes on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (which got her a Golden Globe nomination), and she's also been in flicks like The Notorious Bettie Page and Serenity. I'm not so sure on this choice, but Gabriel Macht, who is playing The Spirit, is pretty engaging, so maybe he can pull it out of her.But she isn't the only one added to the cast. Joining the roster that already includes Samuel L. Jackson as Octopus, and Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansson as femme fatales, are Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons, and Louis Lombardi. Lauria, the pop from The Wonder Years, will play the police commissioner (Paulson's dad); Katic, who plays HRG's recruit Hana on Heroes, will be a rookie cop; Simmons (Evan Almighty) will play a young Denny Colt; and Lombardi (24) will play Phobos, one of Octopus' henchman. This isn't the celebrity cast that Sin City had, so we'll have to wait and see if that helps or hinder the production, which is supposed to begin next month at Albuquerque Studios in New Mexico.
