The Soloist
It seemed like the sort of project to explode with praise and critical acclaim -- Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx in the story of a talented homeless musician who once went to Julliard. The reality, however, didn't live up to expectation. In her review, Jette Kernion said: "the overall film isn't compelling, and the plot falls into the easy traps of traditional melodrama." Still ... Rent it. Also on Blu-ray.

Obsessed
One of the classic cases of reviewer v. audience. The story of a psycho Beyonce didn't charm the critical eye, and Scott even said: "Obsessed feels a lot like a refugee from the Lifetime Network that just happened to have a budget." Nevertheless, it exploded. I say Skip It ... but I have a feeling that won't matter. Also on Blu-ray.

Good News: La Lohan May Leave Acting for Good
Filed under: Comedy », Romance », RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy », Fandom »
I'm not one to kick somebody when they're down, and lord knows Miss Lindsay Lohan has been on her way down ... but, well ... in an interview for the April issue of Nylon, the actress dropped hints that she is in need of work and that her recent forays into modeling for Fornarina have inspired her to make a career change. So like any other Lohan-related news item, the gossips were on it like a pack of wolves, and now Page Six has dropped the bomb that the actress could actually have a shot at the world of fashion. According to the wags at Six, Ivan Bart, senior VP of IMG Models, is either desperate for publicity or might actually give her that shot. Bart told Six, "She's a beautiful girl and obviously knows a lot about fashion, providing that she was contractually free, we would take a meeting."There is no denying that Lohan's celebrity cache has been dropping faster than a pair of Britney's underwear since her stints in court and various rehabs. During 2008, we watched her lose out on potential career-saving roles, and her latest attempt to win back the 'chick flick crowd' has already been voted most likely to end up in the direct-to-DVD pile. Mainly, the press has been far more interested in her personal relationships than her plans to put her career back together -- and who could blame them? There were cryptic messages on Twitter and public spats; it was the stuff of tabloid dreams. So starlets take note: when you're being called the 'next big thing' and everybody loves you, take a moment to ponder the career trajectory of La Lohan and keep in mind that this could be you.
Lindsay Lohan? Pregnant? Must Watch?
Filed under: Comedy », Fandom », Trailers and Clips »
For those folks out there who've been dying to see a) Lindsay Lohan in a new movie and/or b) Lindsay Lohan fake a pregnancy in order to keep a job, then you simply must watch the new trailer for Labor Pains. (Too bad this sucker couldn't hit on Labor Day! HA! Not funny.) We've told you about the flick before; in it, Lohan plays a secretary who's about to be fired when she suddenly decides to say she's pregnant in order to stay employed. Hilarity ensues when she needs to keep it up -- going so far as to create a fake belly and take on pregnant woman activities, such as lamaze class. The trailer claims the film is still in post production, so one imagines this is just a little teaser to whet your appetite. Directed by Lara Shapiro, Lohan stars opposite Cheryl Hines, Chris Parnell and Luke Kirby. The trailer voiceover definitely gives it a nice direct-to-DVD touch, and the comedy seems targeted toward the teen-to-pre-teen crowd. Not exactly the perfect follow-up to I Know Who Killed Me, but I'd say La Lohan is heading in a slightly more watchable direction. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. Will this make it to theaters?
Aaron Yoo Gets to Date Lindsay Lohan
Filed under: Comedy », Casting »
He's not just a painfully loyal sidekick any more! After helping Shia LaBeouf solve crimes while the dude was house-bound, Aaron Yoo got wacky, and then bet on some 21. And now, he has scored himself an even bigger gig -- Lindsay Lohan's boyfriend! The Hollywood Reporter posts that he has joined the cast of Labor Pains, which is currently in production. However, he's still not getting the nice end of the stick, because he gets to play fake dad.
As Erik told us earlier this month when La Lohan signed on, Labor Pains follows a young woman who fakes a pregnancy to keep her nasty, publishing house boss from canning her. So, poor Yoo gets to become a faux inseminator. I wonder what that entails. Will he have to run out to the store for fake cravings? IMDb's summary says that she gets special treatment from everyone, so I wonder just how everyone buys this, and how she pulls it off. It's not so easy to fake a sonogram, but even more -- wouldn't her man at least notice that her stomach wasn't growing? Unless she vows that pregnancy has made her supremely modest as she wears head-to-toe ensembles to cover her fake belly, I can't see how he wouldn't find out. Oh, but I'm sure the magic of movies will figure something out.
La Lohan Gets Knocked Up and Lands a Film!

... But will she remain onboard long enough to actually start shooting? Since the film begins production on June 9, La Lohan only has four days to fudge it up. (I think I know who's getting an extra prayer at meal time tonight!) Yes, according to Variety, Lindsay Lohan will star in Labor Pains, rescuing the film from "limbo," along with Nu Image/Millennium Films Overnight Productions. Capitol Films were originally set to finance the flick, but they've had money issues as of late (remember the whole "Nailed situation?"). Starring alongside Chris Parnell, Cheryl Hines (who's doing a TON of film work these days), Luke Kirby and Connie Britton, Lohan will play a publishing house assistant who fakes a pregnancy so that her "nasty" boss won't fire her. Seems like an odd premise for a film -- kinda Devil Wears Prada with a twist of ... fake pregnancy? Producer Rick Schwartz gave this nugget of a quote: "I didn't know Lindsay before this, but we looked each other in the eye three months ago, and she has done everything I could have asked."
Note to everyone else in the world: Look Lindsay in the eye and she'll fulfill your every wish and command.
Independent Film Enjoys SAG Waiverland
When the writers' strike was looming, folks were rushing to get things done. This time around, with SAG, we've got some big-budget films trucking ahead, or scheduling re-shoots, without worry of the actors heading for the picket line. It almost feels like it's just some wild rumor. But it's not, and Variety reports that there is a pretty large "Waiverland" in case things go ahead.SAG has set up 300 waiver deals with indie producers for post-June 30 production, should the strike go on. Now, Variety also points out that some of the big productions (like Terminator, which seemed surprisingly carefree about the possible strike), have scheduled in a hiatus just in case (hopefully long enough to cover it, should a strike begin), but others are going on the hope that there won't be one, like Angels and Demons and Prince of Persia. Risky business.
So, if you're wondering what some of the films are that got waivers, Variety shared the following: Edge of Darkness, W, My One and Only, Big Eyes, Labor Pains, Pandorum, Bad Lieutenant, Killing Pablo, and Brooklyn's Finest. Plus an earlier waiver list that included The Rebound, Law-Abiding Citizen, and Brothers in Arms.
We're in June now, so we'll know soon enough what will happen. Hopefully this can all be resolved without a big strike, but only time will tell.
