Cavallari Following in Lohan's Footsteps?

Kristin Cavallari, star of the vacuous yet incredibly popular reality show/drama Laguna Beach, is taking a page from Lindsay Lohan's playbook. Lohan had a hit on her hands with Mean Girls, in which she starred with several Saturday Night Live veterans, inluding screenwriter Tina Fey. Cavallari tells MTV News that she will be appearing in Spring Breakdown, with SNL stars Rachel Dratch and Amy Poehler (one of the best Weekend Update hosts in the show's history, and -- surprise -- she was in Mean Girls). Dratch co-wrote the screenplay for the film which will also star Parker Posey and Amber Tamblyn.

According to Cavallari, "It's a comedy about girlfriends that missed out on spring break because they were losers in high school, and now they're older and they go on a college spring break." Cavallari will play one of the "bitchy, mean girls," bringing to light yet another similarity to Lohan's film.

Again, the word vacuous comes to mind, but I hold out some hope because of Dratch and Poehler's involvement. Cavallari may get the young folks into the theater, but these two SNL vets provide the most hope for the film actually being entertaining. Posey has respectable comedy chops as well (check out a little-seen film called Clockwatchers if you don't believe me).

Spring Breakdown
will open sometime next year.

Hollywood Baffles Public: Makes Dukes II, Keeps Hiring Kristin Cavallari

Filed under: Action », Comedy », Casting », RumorMonger », Newsstand », Remakes and Sequels »

So, you remember Kristin Cavallari? The random blonde who "starred" in an MTV reality show and is still inexplicably all over the gossip pages, and in the media? You know, the even poorer man's Paris Hilton? Well, despite her obvious lack of talent, the girl is apparently about to get another starring role in a movie: Word is that she's the producer's first choice to replace Jessica Simpson in the eagerly awaited (choke) straight-to-DVD Dukes of Hazzard prequel. (Also, speaking of the producer, here's a direct quote from him about the movie: "It's a prequel, like Batman." Honestly. Words fail me.)

Now that they've (sort of) land themselves a washed-up reality chick to play Daisy, producers are still search for the rest of the cast, including the Duke boys, Boss Hogg, Uncle Jesse and, my personal favorite character from the show, Roscoooooe P. Coltrane. (And Flash is going to be a puppy in the prequel! Aw. Jeez, I may have to see it after all.) Interested in the roles? Well, lucky for you, Moviehole has tracked down the casting call. Here are some highlights:
  • "Daisy's beauty is hidden under a frumpy dress, big glasses and bigger hair ... She makes some changes in her appearance and suddenly Daisy is breathtakingly hot."
  • Bo "tends to run, drive, and leap into things. Literally."
  • And new characters, teen twins Brooke and Ali Handy? Get ready, boys: "At the Hazzard County High School, they have reps for doing anything. They like to hang out by Hogg's Ravine, get naked and lather each other up with tanning oil, which has it's [sic] desired effect on Bo and Luke...SOME NUDITY REQUIRED."
Nothing like soft-core porn to increase sales, huh?

Sign #439 That the World is Ending: Kristin Cavalleri is in a Movie

Filed under: Independent », Thrillers », Casting », Newsstand », Cinematical Indie »

Laguna Beach's Kristin Cavalleri, whose "career" since the show ended has been a glorious articulation of the reason MTV needs to die (and I actually watched the show -- honestly, I could never tell her and that LC chick apart), is moving from her annoying TV and gossip page personality phase to a totally cool new one: movie star. And I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Cavalleri has been taped to costar with fellow (non-reality) TV "star" Brittany Snow (among other things, she was in a handful of Nip/Tuck episodes) in Fingerprints, an indie psychological thriller. The plot of the film is incredibly disjointed and vague, but here it is: Snow's character was in rehab. She gets out and moves back in with the fam; Cavalleri is her sister. Then, for no reason whatsoever, she "gets involved in an investigation of what has paralyzed residents." Uh, wha? Residents of what? Her house? And what does rehab have to do with anything? When in crisis, does the local PD turn to any ex-addicts who happen to be hanging around? And, to make the whole thing that much more confusing, Variety is reporting that the movie is "loosely based on an urban legend involving haunted train tracks." Ah. Of course it is.
