Kevin Spacey Becomes a 'Shrink'
Filed under: Drama », Independent », Casting », Deals »
If you've seen American Beauty, then you already know Kevin Spacey can do a mean pothead on screen -- especially one that is a little ticked at the way his life has turned out. Both skills will come in handy now that Variety has announced that Spacey has signed to star in the indie drama, Shrink. Jonas Pate is already on board to direct Thomas Moffett's script about a celebrity shrink in the midst of a personal crisis.Spacey will play a psychiatrist to the stars who's thrown for a loop by a personal tragedy. When he is unable to deal with the loss, he becomes a chronic pothead and all-around burn out; eventually losing faith in his ability to help his patients. Starring as his various celebrity clients are Saffron Burrows, Jack Huston, Griffin Dunne, Robin Williams, Pell James, Robert Loggia, Keke Palmer, Laura Ramsey, Gore Vidal, Dallas Roberts and Mark Webber.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to lead the lifestyle of a rich and famous super villain? The heroes, they can't rake in the illicit cash, or even keep the monies bestowed on them by the grateful public. The whole "integrity" thing gets in the way. But villains -- villains live the good life. All their hard earned cash goes straight to buying evil machinations and furnishing their lives with the best of best in houses, cars, boats ... you name it, they've got it. And it is probably made out of solid gold. Lex Luthor is certainly no exception, and IGN has a rather nifty look at the makings of his giant yacht from Superman Returns. There's a diagram layout, some still shots, and a collection of short "virtual reality" tours (in Quicktime form), each accompanied by an explanatory paragraph. It isn't Robin Leach, but that's probably a plus. This is one of the more fun Superman specials I've seen to date. Lex Luthor Takes Over

Okay, this one is fun. Generally, in the final weeks leading up to a major blockbuster, I find myself with movie fatigue. That is to say I get tired of seeing the film on products and promotions everywhere and just want the film to happen. There's only so many times you can see Spider-Man on jelly jars and plastic bags, for example, before it starts driving you nuts. I hit the Superman fatigue wall sometime late last week. I'm still greatly anticipating the film, but I'm tired of seeing it absolutely everywhere. I just want to see the movie, I don't want to eat foods endorsed by it any longer. That said, the creative team behind Superman Returns' marketing and promotions has actually put together an amusing little gimmick I actually enjoy -- probably because it's less promotional and more for the amusement of the fans themselves. If you swing on by the official Superman Returns website, you'll quickly notice something is out of place. After the initial loading sequence, you hear a "WRONG!" declaration and see Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, who has officially "taken over" the Site of Steel. If you poke around you'll notice many of the site's sections have been altered by Lex, perhaps most notably the wallpaper downloads. Go have a look, it'll give you a good chuckle.
