Here's Another Photo from Clooney's 'Leatherheads'

Filed under: Comedy », Romance », Newsstand », Movie Marketing », Images »

USA Today has unveiled another photo from Leatherheads; George Clooney's third directorial outing, and his first attempt at a comedy. I was about to claim that this is the first Leatherheads pic to hit the net, but I don't believe it is. On IMDb, they already have up an additional five photos of guys clowning around in those old school football uniforms from back in the early days of the sport. And that's exactly what Leatherheads is about: In the film Clooney plays the coach of a "wannabee pro football team in the 1920s." In an attempt to add some legitimacy to his team, coach decides to try to recruit a World War I hero (John Krasinski) as his star player. Problems arise when both men fall head over heels for a pretty journalist (Renée Zellweger) who's out to expose the star as a fraud.

The photo above is the first to feature all three principal cast members (Clooney, Krasinski and Zellweger), as they sit around a table and discuss whatever. Ah, but someone or something walks in the door -- at which point all three look up. I'm not at all worried about Clooney pulling off comedy; I'm sure his work on a couple quirky Coen Bros. flicks certainly helped the man get a feel for tone. I am worried, however, about John Krasinski as a bankable big-screen star. The guy was a total bore in the recently-released License to Wed, and as wonderful as The Office is, his character on that show isn't all too exciting either. I'll be curious to see what Clooney can get out of him this time around, as I'm sure his lead role in this film will help dictate just how big Krasinski will become. Your thoughts? Leatherheads is due to block its way into theaters this December.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: Insert Caption

Last week's License to Wed contest reinforced a couple of things for those of us over here at Moviefone. One, if it's bald and looks semi-crazy, it must be Britney Spears. Two, Michael Jackson jokes never get old. Congrats to our License to Wed loot winners below. They'll take home a beach towel tote, a Frisbee and a magnetic word set among other goodies. Alas, they will not be receiving the mechanical pooping baby pictured.

This week, we have a photo from the eagerly anticipated Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth chapter in the beloved boy-wizard saga. This time around, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) brace for the return of the vile Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) and battle to free Hogwarts from the iron-fisted authoritarian rule of Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton). And, in the midst of all this, Harry apparently finds some time to chill in a telephone booth with Ron's dad (Mark Williams).

Writers of our three favorite captions for the photo below will win a veritable Goblet of Fire full of Harry Potter swag, including a Death Eaters T-shirt (handy for those times when you just have to eat the deceased), a wooden notebook with quill and ink (so you can chronicle your hopes and dreams, Ginny Weasley-style) and some Potter temporary tattoos (because you know Harry loves to show off his ink). Good luck!

Review: License to Wed

Filed under: Comedy », Romance », New Releases », Warner Brothers », Theatrical Reviews »

For those of you currently in the middle of writing your wedding vows, might I suggest including the following: "I vow to never to force you to watch License to Wed against your will ... even if it does look sweeter than a piece of apple pie." Harmless squabbles between two people in love are hard enough to watch when you're one of those people. Well, imagine spending 90 minutes right smack in the middle of someone else's argument -- one that's so trivial and meaningless, the thought of knocking yourself out quickly becomes the best idea you've had in years. And half-way through License to Wed, I imagine everyone involved felt the same way; after a somewhat humorous start and one decent set piece, the film becomes duller than a two-hour PowerPoint presentation on how to pick the right wedding hall. Chock-full of more "seen it" and "done it" moments than the latest Scary Movie entry, do yourself a favor and say "I don't" to License to Wed when it comes time to walk down the aisle at your local cineplex later this weekend.

It's a shame, really, because License to Wed sports a cast capable of way more laughs than this. Making his big-screen debut in a starring role, John Krasinski (The Office) plays Ben Murphy; the type of character Ben Stiller channels in his sleep -- the dim-witted "voice of reason" who can't seem to do or say the right thing no matter what the situation. After a "here's how they got together" montage, Ben proposes to his girlfriend, Sadie (Mandy Moore), and the two are on their way to planning a fantastic wedding. Only problem is Sadie wants to exchange vows in her hometown church under the guidance of Reverend Frank (Robin Williams); the eccentric spiritual leader who baptized her. And with the only available slot three weeks away, Reverend Frank insists the couple attend a rigorous marriage prep course that takes invasion of ones privacy to a level that's not only awkward, but also a tad creepy. Do they have what it takes to keep it cool and stay together long enough to get hitched? Trust me, you won't care.

Giant Batch of Pics from Mandy Moore Comedy 'License to Wed'!

Filed under: Comedy », Romance », New Releases », Warner Brothers », Images »

Last night, Warner Bros. sent us over this big batch of new pics from the upcoming Mandy Moore romcom License to Wed, which also stars Robin Williams, John Krasinski, and Eric Christian Olsen. The film, which is opening on July 4 as counter-programming to the Michael Bay actioner Transformers, is about a young couple who are put through a series of relationship challenges in order to prepare them for marriage. The director, Ken Kwapis, most recently directed The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and several episodes of the hit TV show The Office. There are enough pics here to give you a glimpse of all the film's major players, and even one with Robin Williams being driven in a car by someone who is blindfolded, which isn't something you see every day. Click on the images in order to get the full-sized, uncut photo. Enjoy!

Williams and Moore Granted a License to Wed

Filed under: Comedy », Romance », Casting », Warner Brothers », Newsstand »

Because we don't have enough "Wow, weddings are so wacky!" movies, Warner Brothers has another one piping hot and ready to go. Their particular angle on wedding madness involves a crazy minister, a prenuptial class, a breakup, and a happily-ever-after: can you handle the anticipation?

Entitled License to Wed, the movie is going to start Mandy Moore and Robin Williams, but thankfully not as the couple. Instead, Williams plays the minister at Moore's character's church, who refuses to perform her wedding ceremony unless she and her husband take and pass a prenup class. Needless to say, they don't pass, it's the boy's fault, and they breakup. Don't worry, though - they get back together (I'm sure there are tears on both sides, and at least one person saying "Oh, darling, I was a fool!") and everything is lovely. While no one has yet been cast as the groom, talks for the role have just begun with The Office's John Krasinski.

Williams will start chewing scenery in May, under the guidance of Office and The Bernie Mac Show director Ken Kwapis.
