News Bites: Alyssa Milano Grabs a Boyfriend and Elisabeth Shue Bulks Up
Filed under: Action », Comedy », Horror », Romance », Casting », Fandom », Images »
It looks like Dan Aykroyd better work fast if he wants to get Alyssa Milano in the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel -- she's starting to line up the feature gigs. Following her horror stint in Pathology, The Hollywood Reporter posts that Milano is grabbing a rom-com. She'll star and produce My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, which might sound like a sexuality-bending role for the actress, but really it's just typical. She'll play a woman who meets two perfect men and must decide between them. One (played by Christopher Gorham) is a struggling novelist, while the other (Michael Landes) is an ad exec. Where the girlfriend fits in is anyone's guess. However, the pic does have Beau Bridges and Carol Kane in additional roles, so there's that going for it.Meanwhile, remembering the tough women I was asking for? We're getting at least one on the big screens soon with Elisabeth Shue. TMZ posted a snap of her shooting Piranha 3-D, and as you can see above, she's sporting some rather impressive pipes these days. They should do a good job against those flesh-hungry fish, or at least provide them with some good muscle to chew on. It's just a waste that it's just for a niche film remake. But could this mean -- maybe just maybe -- a possible future as an action heroine? It would be a waste for those pipes to be forgotten once Piranha is done filming, and we already know she has the acting chops to go with it.
Poster for Sarah Michelle Gellar's 'Possession'

I think Sarah Michelle Gellar has a compulsion for making somewhat lame supernatural thrillers. You have to give her credit for avoiding Buffy typecasting, but she does seem to be stuck in a bit of a rut lately. Her latest, Possession has just released a new poster (you can check out the full version over at IGN). Possession is a remake of the 2002 film Jungdok (Addicted). By the looks of things, Michael Petroni's (Queen of The Damned) script might be pushing the supernatural angle just a little more than the original. The feature was directed by Swedish director Joel Bergvall, who has some experience with remakes since his original film, Den Osynlige, was reworked into the teen thriller, The Invisible.Gellar plays Jessica, a woman who suffers the double tragedy of having her husband and her brother-in-law lapse into comas after a car accident. As if that wasn't bad enough, when her brother-in-law wakes up, he claims to be her husband. Lee Pace from TV's Pushing Daisies plays Gellar's in-law and Michael Landes (Homecoming) plays her husband Ryan. The first trailer was released back in December, and it is pretty much what you would expect. Although you have to love the visual shorthand for summing up the bad seed brother-in-law (Pace) -- he spends most of the trailer shirtless, brooding, and speeding off in a vintage car -- but hey, at least it looks like a step up from The Return. Possession is currently in post-production and is scheduled to hit theaters this March.

Mischa Barton is a Total Stalker
I can think of a lot worse than being stalked by a girl who looked like Mischa Barton. (Like being stalked by a guy who looked like Barton Fink.) Yup, the girl we all remember as playing Marissa Cooper on The O.C. is preparing to show us that hot girls can be stalkers too by signing on to star in the indie thriller Homecoming. What, you've never had a hot girl stalk you? Seriously? You should try on my job for a day -- hot girls are absolutely infatuated with overweight, balding internet film writers. It's insane! But if we can get serious for a moment: Variety tells us the actress will star alongside Matt Long, Jessica Stroup and Michael Landes, while Morgan J. Freeman (Hurricane) will direct off a script from Frank Hannah (The Cooler).
Homecoming will tell the all-too-familiar tale of a former small-town golden boy and his new girlfriend who decide to visit his hometown when -- holy bleeping crap -- they discover his high school sweetheart (Barton) is, like, totally obsessed with the guy still. Variety calls it an "unhealthy obsession," while I say the more the merrier. No word on a production schedule or a release date, but it should be fun to watch the girl from The O.C. go absolutely nutty over a guy. I want her doing bad things. Very bad things. Despite being pretty well known, Barton still has not managed to land a role bigger than "insert random indie title here." Perhaps she's going about her career in the right way, or perhaps she's just not appealing enough for the bigger stuff. What say you?
