At Last! A Trailer For 'The X-Files: I Want to Believe'!

Filed under: Action », Horror », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Mystery & Suspense », Fandom », 20th Century Fox », Movie Marketing », Remakes and Sequels », Trailers and Clips »

And we have the embed, courtesy of IGN. The quality is not ideal, so if you're looking to freeze frame, you may want to view the Quicktime version over there.

The trailer is predictably creepy, but also typically vague. There is not much of a sense here as to what the movie will be about other than an unexplained phenomenon and missing girls -- I felt compelled to go back and look at the plot details just to appreciate it a little better. With all the cool movies coming out this summer, I don't know if I'm hooked enough to buy a ticket yet to this one. Nearly, though!

I know it can't be -- but the sadistic looking dude with the needle looks an awful lot like Alex Krychek.

If you need an additional Mulder and Scully fix, there are two viral videos that were released this weekend. They feature the two FBI Agents reminiscing about each other, which suggests this movie is a reunion on all fronts. They are a bit odd, mostly because they are so short and random. They're included after the jump.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe opens July 25th.

New Mistily Lit 'X-Files: I Want To Believe' Photo

Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy », 20th Century Fox », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels », Images »

Wow, this does not look like a photo from The X-Files. This looks like a photo from a movie like The Lake House. (Which, if only lit a bit darker, could have been an episode of The X-Files, now that I think about it.) It will probably drive all the Mulder and Scully "Shippers" crazy. I confess to being one back in the day (though not really enough of one to use that cheesy term), but the picture still doesn't do anything for me. But it is nice to know they felt the flame alive all these years. The photo comes by way of IESB.net, who was sent it from a mysterious source. No one knows where it came from, but it appears to be a legit scene as there's a near identical picture from DVD Forum that includes Chris Carter. The X-Files: I Want to Believe opens July 25th.

New 'X-Files' Photos Might Reveal Major Spoiler

Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Thrillers », Mystery & Suspense », RumorMonger », Fandom », Movie Marketing », Remakes and Sequels »

Sorting through all the email we received today, our friends over at XFilesNews turned us on to three brand new images from the untitled X-Files movie hitting theaters this summer. No, it's not a direct sequel to the film that came out 10 years ago -- apparently, this one is a stand alone story that -- knowing Mulder and Scully -- has to do with something weird, creepy and other-worldly. See, folks have been keeping a real tight lid on the storyline for this flick, and it seems all we get are images of people on ice, digging, screaming, running -- what have you. BUT, these new photos might reveal a little more. Either that, or someone is trying to have a little fun with us.

(We're about to take a closer look at one of these images, so spoilers might follow ...)

Okay, so see this image above of Mulder (David Duchovny) standing up, looking at something, someone with a bunch of papers and crap hung up behind him. Well, click on the photo in the gallery below to see a larger version. NOW look at the title of the newspaper article in the background. What does it say? "FBI Arrests Modern Day Frankenstein Doctor." Could this new film have something to do with ... Frankenstein!!! Dun Dun Dun. I'm not as up on my X-Files knowledge as some of you are, so discuss away ...

The X-Files arrives in theaters on July 25.

'X-Files 2' Gets a Release Date

Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Fandom », Distribution », 20th Century Fox », DIY/Filmmaking », Newsstand », Remakes and Sequels »

It's taken a bit of time for the trades to catch up to the long-awaited X-Files sequel, currently being referred to as X-Files 2, but now that they have a flurry of information has hit the net. Variety just announced that 20th Century Fox has set a release date of July 25th, 2008 (that's this summer people!!) for the first X-Files flick in ten years. Unfortunately, that's all we know right now, and a plot synopsis was not released, but they did offer up the following: "Studio is keeping the film's logline under wraps, but stressed the pic is a stand-alone story and supernatural thriller that takes the complicated relationship between Mulder and Scully in new directions."

Hmm, so they're taking their complicated relationship in new directions, huh? Perhaps the two will get married and have a child that turns out to be ... a Predalien?! Could it be? Maybe? As of right now, the only other films opening on that same weekend are the Will Ferell/John C. Reilly comedy Step Brothers, and yet another Ice Cube family flick. What's up with Cube and the family flicks, anyway? He was really doing well with the badass roles (although XXX: They Should've Stopped at Diesel didn't exactly live up to the hype it didn't receive); I wish he'd go back to kicking butt. Or, if not that, then give us another another another Friday. All that being said, X-Files 2 should do fairly well against its competition, but they'll need to WOW us a bit when it comes time for trailers. A stop at NY ComicCon this spring wouldn't hurt either.

Random Note: For some reason I kept writing X-Men, and not X-Files, but caught the mistake right before I pushed this sucker live. That would've been a funny one, huh? Oh, the comments ...

XFiles 2? For real this time!

A second The X Files movie has been discussed for a long, long time; at this point, it's just one of those ever-present rumors that doesn't actually mean anything anymore. But wait - all hope is not lost! According to Gillian Anderson, though the whole sequel thing has "become a bit messy" (it's to do with "rights issues," apparently), she, co-star David Duchovny, and creator/writer Chris Carter "are determined to do it." Hmm. Well, for X-Philes I'm sure that's reassuring  - but how far can determination can get you when you don't have the necessary rights to get the movie made? Plus, as Anderson points out, at some point people are just not going to give a crap. No really - I know it's hard to believe that the day will come, but when we have flying cars, Mulder and Scully will just not be an issue. Not only that, but even if people still care, watching the two of them sitting in an old folks home, talking aliens, just won't be the same. So they best get on it, dammit.
