Robert Pattinson Talks 'Breaking Dawn' & 'Unbound Captives'
Filed under: Action », Drama », Independent », Romance », New Releases », RumorMonger », DIY/Filmmaking », Newsstand », Remakes and Sequels », Western »
Good news, Twilight fans. You have the first official news for the fourth Twilight installment, courtesy of our own Jen Yamato, FearNet and the New Moon junket.* The magically-coiffed Robert Pattinson has confirmed that Breaking Dawn will begin filming in Fall 2010, and that it's penciled into his schedule for next year.Of course, Dawn remains unconfirmed by Summit. The most controversial installment of the Twilight series, rumors swirl that the studio is hesitant to take it to the big screen. If it is made, it seems likely that it could be split into two films a'la Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Personally, I don't see Summit risking the money they'd make on #4, and they'll find a way to steer around the gorier aspects of the book. But now you know when to look for it, though you still have the madness of Eclipse pre-production to get through.
Pattinson also dished on the movie I want to mark on my calender (Sorry, I dig boots and spurs more than vampires), a Western called Unbound Captives. The directorial debut of Madeleine Stowe, it stars Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, and Pattinson. The young heartthrob revealed that it's tenatively scheduled to begin shooting in early 2010, and he sounds enthusiastic for a role that'll be miles away from Edward Cullen. "I'm playing a kid who is kidnapped by Comanches when he was four years old, and he is brought up by them. His mother spends her entire life trying to find me and my sister. When she finds us, we can't remember who she is and can't remember anything about the Western culture she grew up in. I speak Comanche the whole movie. You can't really speak more differently from Edward."
[Special thanks also goes to Collider who apparently pried the Breaking Dawn date out of Mr. Pattinson]
'Twilight' Barbie and Other Bad Movie Tie-ins
Filed under: New Releases », Fandom »
The countdown has begun, and we are just 17 short days away from the arrival of the vamp-romance, New Moon, so why not celebrate by re-enacting some of your favorite scenes with your very own Bella and Edward? That's right, Mattell has released Edward and Bella Barbie as part of the Twilight Barbie Collection, but for those of you on Team Jacob, you will be sad to discover that he hasn't gotten a doll yet (although the thought of the additional 'werewolf' Jacob could be fun). Now, considering some of the other Twilight themed products we have been subjected to, a couple of Barbie dolls don't seem so bad, I mean at least they are age-appropriate. The dolls are modeled after the infamous 'sparkling reveal' from the first film, but when I took a look at the final product my first question was: "Who the heck are these two people supposed to be?" I've seen Twilight and even I wouldn't have recognized Bella and Edward.
But I'm sure that is not going to stop you hard-core collectors out there, so head over to Walmart.com or Barbiecollector.com where you can buy them online for the suggested retail price of $24.95 -- but something tells me you are going to have to act fast.

'The Twilight Saga' Movie Predictions
.jpg)
It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to predict some healthy box office returns for the upcoming Twilight movies, New Moon and Eclipse. Though as the films (and books) gain in popularity, so do the amount of people who want in on some of that action. Enter: Glynis McCants, a numerologist who believes that by adding up the numbers in the movie's release dates, she can expertly predict good things in the near Twilight future.
According to McCants, when the original Twilight hit theaters last year on November 21, 2008, because the numbers ultimately added up to a 6, that meant the film was magnetic and we were all drawn to it without having a choice in the matter. McCants goes on to reveal the same sort of good vibes for the release dates of both New Moon and Eclipse, and even notes that Summit Entertainment may have picked these dates for a reason ... because they knew they'd have success ... because the numbers all added up to a 6. Or because they knew every other Hollywood film would steer clear of the mega vampire box office killer since they'd be up against a powerhouse.
So what do you think? Is Summit Entertainment in cahoots with the number gods, choosing release dates simply because the numbers add up to good things? Or is this chick just completely out of her mind. Watch the video after the jump and let us know ...
'New Moon's Movie Theater Awkwardness & Other Pics
Filed under: Romance », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Remakes and Sequels », Images »

By the time New Moon hits theaters, I don't think there will be anything new left to watch. We will have seen still or moving images of everything. The trailers have already covered all the big plot points from beginning to end, and now new pics seem to be filling in the last bits, like the big movie theater scene above, courtesy of Beyond Hollywood. In an attempt to socialize after her post-Edward leaving catatonic funk, Bella concocts this idea to go to the movies, only everyone backs out except for the two guys crushing on her. It's horrible uncomfortableness mixed in with lots of sickness of both the human and wolfy variety. Other images (over at Ace Showbiz) include one post-movie pic, plus Billy Burke's dad presenting Bella with her gift before things for bloody papercutting bad.
Has anyone made a flip book yet? I'm betting it wouldn't be hard to make a comprehensive one now. This leads me to the thought: How much is too much? I can see some of the rationale -- these aren't exactly movies that are pulling in a huge non-Stephenie Meyer-reading crowd. It's not like Harry Potter tantalizing a whole new audience. The box office boosters know the story already. Spoilers are almost irrelevant. But there is something to be said for the magic of seeing things come to life. At some point, the wow has to fade, and the excitement of seeing it on the big screen has to fizzle.
How much do you think is too much?
Watch This: 'New Moon' Video Premiere

Even though I still haven't completely wrapped my head around some of the participants on the New Moon soundtrack (really, Thom?), worry not because this isn't about to turn into one of those Twilight bash-fests since I've already made my peace with this particular franchise. But I wanted to get that out there because you should probably know that I'm not exactly dedicated to the love story of Edward and Bella, or the Emo poster boys Death Cab for Cutie, which might not make me the best audience for the new music video for the first official release from the soundtrack, Meet Me on The Equinox. That said, I do have to admit that, no, I don't hate it.
The song might not be anything out of the ordinary for the band, and it has that trademark Death Cab vibe of slightly mopey and chock full of ennui, but it's a pretty little track nonetheless. Now, as for the video itself, it's mainly just footage of the band (after breaking into Bella's Forks home by the looks of it) but there is some additional footage from the movie peppered into the clip -- though you would probably have to have committed the first trailer to memory (and I'm sure some of you have) to spot the differences. But one thing that should thrill Cullen-lovers everywhere is that you do get a much longer shot of a shirtless and sad Edward -- and isn't that the bread and butter of the Twilight franchise, after all?
The official soundtrack will go on sale on October 20th, and you'll have one month to learn these songs by heart before New Moon arrives in theaters on November 20th.

David Slade Wants 'Eclipse' to Be Gorier, Darker and More Guy-Friendly
Filed under: Action », Romance », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Fandom », Movie Marketing »

MTV, an outlet I don't believe has ever covered the Twilight franchise, is reporting that Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night director David Slade has visions of turning Eclipse, the upcoming third film in Stephenie Meyer's paranormal romance series, into a film guys may actually want to bring their dates to. One may assume their source for this speculation should have been as obvious as David Slade's historical track record - revenge-loving jail bait and deformed, snow-covered throat-rippers don't exactly scream PG-13 hugs and cuddles - but their actual informant is Eclipse co-star Ashley Greene:
"The first one was very focused on this love story and really sweet and it was beautiful, but it didn't have a lot of stuff that guys would go, 'Yeah, I want to go see that,' " she said. "There's going to be a lot more focus on [action], and the fight scene will have more emphasis on it. I definitely think it will be a little more guy-friendly."
Now before you doubt how a singular fight scene designates a film more "guy-friendly", keep in mind that Greene is referring to only her character's big showdown, which apparently has left the young actress, who plays Alice Cullen, adopted sister to dreamboat Edward Cullen, bruised from all the stunt training. MTV is quick to point out that the novel culminates in "a climactic battle of vampires and werewolves", which certainly sounds like something basic enough to attract a tree-chopping, tobacco-chewing, barrel-chested king of men like me... until I remember that we're talking about a franchise that makes that which normally bursts into horrific flames sparkle like an '80s be-dazzler in sunlight.
Love It/Hate It: The Action-Packed 'New Moon' VMA Trailer
Filed under: Action », Romance », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Fandom », Movie Marketing »

Let's be honest. Some of you watched the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. (OMG, did you see what Kanye did to poor Taylor Swift?? That rascal!) Although technically the VMAs are supposed to celebrate achievement in music videos – you know, those things MTV used to play all the time – the night belonged to one decidedly non-musical entity: Twilight. Stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner introduced a new extended trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon that just might have earned the Summit property something that previous teaser trailers haven't been able to nail: male interest. That's right, Twilight's gunning for you action fans - and from the looks of things, you might even like it.
I admit, that's a big "might." The Twilight franchise hasn't yet expanded beyond its key demographic of teenage girls and Twilight Moms, but as evidenced by Sunday's trailer, the November sequel aims to change all that.
Discuss: Which Film(s) Are You Anticipating Most This Fall?

I may be a jaded and cynical movie 'professional', but that doesn't mean I don't like to get in touch with my innocent side every once in awhile -- which is why, after all this time, I still get excited about the fall movie season. Now, traditionally, the fall season is the time to release those serious Oscar-type films (or awards contenders), but this year there's more to offer than just drama, and this year's slate has a little something for everyone.
This season is littered with kids movies, sci-fi and horror, and a little touch of comedy -- basically you're looking at a line-up that's all over the map. But, everyone has their own tastes, and what makes me froth at the bit may leave you cold, and inevitably some films just naturally find their way the top of your must-see list. So today, I've laid out some of my most anticipated fall flicks, and I hope you'll do the same.
September:
Well, we're already a week into the start of the season, and we've gotten Mike Judges' Extract and the action no-brainer Gamer from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, but there are still some pretty tasty selections coming in the following weeks. So let's get started, shall we?

Shane Acker's tale of a post-apocalyptic world packed with 'stitchpunks' and killer machines may have had the bonus of getting a bit of a boost from the reputations of its producers (Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov), but there is still plenty of reasons to recommend the animated sci-fi tale. Judging by the buzz surrounding this flick, it could turn out to be one of the big sleeper hits of the season, but there's still the small matter of whether or not Acker's flick will be more than style over substance.
After the jump: the rest of what September has to offer, and my top picks for October and November...
'New Moon' Fans Get Wacky Like Aliens

Forget about crop circles -- those are as passe as lame-o's hitting the dance floor to jive to the funky chicken. There's a new crop-destroyer to contend with, and it doesn't just plow down strange circles of land. It professes love for young, suddenly muscled studlets and sparkling boys with a taste for blood. In one of the strangest twists of fandom and movie marketing yet, New Moon has inspired a "Team Jacob" and "Team Jacob" proclamations in maize.
Black Island Farms in Utah has gotten into the Twilight craze by creating puntacular mazes in maize, where fans can stroll through the corn-filled faces of both Jacob and Edward. Vampires, werewolves, whatever floats your boat, they'll deliver! I imagine that as utterly over-the-top as this is, it'll probably do good business even if the patrons can't see that they're actually walking through the hotties' faces.
Go Team Crazy!

Classic Literature Turned 'Twilight'

Well, it's not like anyone would be mistaking Stephanie Meyers' Twilight Saga with one of English literature's greatest classics, but I guess we should have seen this coming. Lately there have been all sorts of Twilight tie-ins that you would never have thought possible, and the latest is courtesy of HarperCollins who have printed new editions of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights with Twilight-inspired cover art.
Now the Cullen-devoted probably already know that Brontë's romance was the book of choice for Edward and Bella, though one edition even goes so far as to remind you of that fact on the cover. Frankly, the Heights mention adds a whole new layer of creepy to Bella and Edward's relationship. There is some pretty messed up stuff going on in Brontë's book, and the twisted relationship between sort-of siblings Cathy and Heathcliff was the blueprint for every romantic bad boy to come after it. So if you thought Edward was screwed up, then wait till you get a glimpse of the 'corpse-defiling' Heathcliff. Although the Heights connection does explain a lot when it comes to Edward's 'stalkery' behavior and Bella's propensity for acting like a bit of a doormat in Meyer's series.
You can't help but wonder if Twilight marketing has gone overboard when its reach has extended this far. But on the upside, I guess anything that gets those darn kids reading again has got to be good, right? Plus, if you want your little girl to grow up with a thing for borderline abusive and emotionally unstable men like the rest of us, then you might as well start them off with a classic.
