The New 'Incredible Hulk' Trailer!

Filed under: Action », Universal », Movie Marketing », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels », Trailers and Clips »

It's here, in glorious Quicktime, and not a moment too soon for a June movie. Head over to Apple to watch it. This trailer is a vast improvement on the first, shades of the television show abounding everywhere. And this is definitely going to be much more action packed than Ang Lee's version. Erik Davis was right on the money in his NYCC report -- read his take on the trailer here.

I can't help but feel it was too long though -- between the two trailers, I feel like I've seen the whole movie, barring 18 minutes of that purported 20 minute fight between Abomination and Hulk. The encounter (pictured above) between Tim Roth and the Hulk is absolutely priceless, though. I won't say what it is and spoil it -- but I can't say I haven't wanted to do the same to a few of Roth's nastier characters.

Eager to hear your take, as always. The Incredible Hulk opens June 13th.

New Trailer for Uwe Boll's 'Lord of the Rings' Wannabe

Filed under: Action », Comedy », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Games and Game Movies »

It's been a while since we've had anything to report on Uwe Boll's inevitably awesome In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. (Titled as such so as not to be confused with In the Name of the King: A Dig Dug Tale.) It's standard practice for a Boll film to sit on a shelf for about eleven months before getting a release, which gives us plenty of time to sit back and savor the impending masterwork that is A(n) Uwe Boll Film.

At last count the guy had Postal (review here), Seed and Dungeon awaiting release, with BloodRayne 2 recently unleashed and both Tunnel Rats and Far Cry on the immediate horizon. (I wonder if there's a correlation between how prolific Boll is and how terrible his movies are...)

Anyway, the 2-hour-plus all-star adventure movie is poised to hit American theaters on January 12 (courtesy of Freestyle Releasing, to whom I offer good luck), and it was schlock-fan Anne Thompson who let me know that, hehe, there's a NEW Dungeon Siege trailer to check out! Awesome! This one's decidedly dialog-light and exceedingly LOTR-inspired, right down to the matte paintings and the booming voice of John Rhys-Davies. Click here to enjoy the latest trailer for yourself.

C'mon, like the idea of a Uwe Boll adventure movie starring THESE PEOPLE doesn't sound like fun. Ha.

Wacky New Trailer for Emmerich's Epic (Comedy?) '10,000 B.C.'

Filed under: Action », Comedy », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Warner Brothers », Movie Marketing », Trailers and Clips »

I don't usually do this sort of thing, but I'm making an early prediction that Roland Emmerich's 10,000 B.C. will be a big-time laugh riot. Those of you who are familiar with Emmerich's output will know what I mean by that, but here's a clarification for the rest of you: Roland Emmerich's 10,000 B.C. is not a comedy. It is, however, a potentially hysterical and pre-historical action-adventure that features mammoths, sabre-toothed tigers, giant ostriches (I think), and a lead couple who look like they just fell out of the Flintstones' equivalent of Bath & Body Works. (Did they have shampoo, mousse and mascara in 10,000 B.C.?)

The thing looks a lot like the result of a conversation that began with the question "What would Apocalypto look like with Steven Strait (as D'Leh), Camilla Belle (as Evolet) and a bunch of freaky-big creatures in it?" And I'm guessing the person who posed that question is an Austrian named Harold Kloser. After composing the score for about 40 films (including Emmerich's The Day After Tomorrow), Mr. Kloser decided to write his first screenplay. And 10,000 B.C. is it. Anyway, head on over to CHUD.com for their exclusive peek at the brand-new trailer. (You really gotta see it to believe it. I kept waiting for Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach to show up!)

10,000 B.C. hits theaters on March 7, and considering that Roland Emmerich is sort of like Uwe Boll with a budget (yeah, I said it), I'm predicting that the flick turns out to be one of 2008's funniest comedies. Either way, surprisingly good or outrageously (hilariously) awful, I have to see this movie.

'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' -- The Trailer for the New Series

If you're a Star Wars fan and you haven't seen Genndy Tartakovsky's collection of Clone Wars animated shorts, you're missing out on some pretty slick stuff. (All 25 episodes are available on two DVDs.) Ever since Revenge of the Sith hit the screens, we've been hearing from George Lucas that The Clone Wars will soon make the leap into full-length TV adventures. (And by full-length I mean longer than five minutes apiece.) Unfortunately it looks like Mr. Tartakovsky is not involved with the newest Clone Wars series, but here's some good news: You can check out a promotional trailer for the program right here.

It's a pretty slick little promo piece, jammed as it is with flashy spaceships, colorful characters, frequent mayhem and a few familiar faces. The IMDb confirms a few familiar voices, too: Frank Oz (Yoda), Anthony Daniels (C-3P0) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous) will be reprising their roles -- although you can expect a whole bunch of new characters to take center stage. Still no word on which network will get the profitable right to air The Clone Wars this Fall, but I'm guessing it'll probably be Cartoon Network. Maybe. More likely Fox.

Brand New (and Very Solid) Trailer for The Simpsons Movie!

Filed under: Animation », Comedy », Trailer Trash », 20th Century Fox », Comic/Superhero/Geek »

Like most of you, I'm the world's biggest Simpsons fan. Got all the DVD sets, a few posters, a handful of (yes) toys, a bunch of books ... let's just say Matt Groening's got more than a few pennies out of me over the years. Not that I'm complaining; rare is the TV series that delivers the goods after this many years. (Yep, I'm even a fan of the current Simpsons run!)

So when the first few teaser trailers for The Simpsons Movie left me a little ... underwhelmed, I certainly didn't panic. With more than a dozen of the old-school Simpsons writers on the job, not to mention the reliable hand of David Silverman at the helm, I've felt pretty confident about what the flick will (finally!) look like. And this brand-new theatrical trailer sure does seem to bear me out. The latest promo clip (click "trailer 3") features a few solid laughs, some new and nifty animation tricks, and a wonderful sense of character to it. And by "character," I mean "the trailer gives us a glimpse of all the awesome Springfield characters we know and love." It's official: July 27 can't arrive quickly enough.

Grindhouse! All-Star Hardcore Action/Horror Double Feature Trailer!

Filed under: Action », Comedy », Horror », Thrillers », Trailer Trash », The Weinstein Co. », Comic/Superhero/Geek »

One works really fast, the other works pretty slow. One loves eye candy, spectacle and special effects; the other deals in dialogue, movie references and grit. And yet they're the best of pals, frequent collaborators and two of the most admired "fanboy" filmmakers under the sun. "They" are Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, of course, and together they're putting the finishing touches on Grindhouse, a two-part genre cocktail that hearkens back to the stickyfloor days of 1970s exploitation cinema.

And I think the flick looks pretty damn wild. Call it action; call it horror; call it low-rent mega-cheese -- just don't forget to call me when April 6 rolls around, because Grindhouse is absolutely on my Top Ten Gimme Gimme List for 2007.

We read (and spread) the news, scanned casting reports, eyeballed teasers and all that jazz, but today comes a brand-new and semi-traditional theatrical trailer for Grindhouse -- and if the movie can pull off what the early buzz/footage is promising, this thing looks to be a certifiable hoot of epic proportions.

Just as a recap: Grindhouse is a 2-part movie, and to say both flicks look pretty freakin' wild would be a massive understatement. (Reminder: Brand-new trailer!) Plus it seems that, as a whole, Grindhouse will run about three hours, or at least that's the implication I'm yanking from the phrase "two feature-length films back to back!" Plus we've been hearing a lot about some "in-between" stuff that should tickle B-movie maniacs all over the world.

Putting aside all that hardcore movie geekery, this project boasts one helluva cast: No less than Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson, Michael Biehn, Rose McGowan, Jeff Fahey, Naveen Andrews, Michael Parks, Nicky Katt, Freddy Rodriguez, Marley Shelton, Danny Trejo, Tom Savini, Eli Roth and Q.T. himself will skid across the screen as Grindhouse unspools. Ugh, someone wake me when April 6 rolls around!

Still Reaping After All These Months

Filed under: Horror », Warner Brothers », Trailer Trash », Movie Marketing »

Way back in July the marvelous Martha Fischer shared with us a trailer for The Reaping, which is a Dark Castle horror flick starring multiple Oscar recipient Hilary Swank. But then the movie got bumped from its release date (in favor of March 30, 2007) and everyone kinda forgot about The Reaping for a little while.

Until this brand-new trailer popped up, of course, and reminded us all that there's nothing potentially goofier than an unconvincing "religious thriller." (OK, so I still like The Seventh Sign, sue me!) Swanky stars as a professional skeptic who travels to a grungy little bayou town and is forced to contend with most of the more annoying biblical plagues ... and you just know she's gonna somehow save the day. But not before a bunch of kills, creeps and craziness.

The Reaping comes from director Stephen Hopkins (Predator 2, Lost in Space), fraternal screenwriters Chad & Carey Hayes (House of Wax), and the studio that gave you Gothika, Ghost Ship and The House on Haunted Hill. (Despite the combined track records of the aforementioned filmmakers, I'm still kinda looking forward to The Reaping. Hope springs eternal for the hardcore horror nerds.) Ms. Swank's co-stars include David Morrissey, William Ragsdale and a creepified AnnaSophia Robb, because when you win two Oscars in less than five years, you definitely want to be the biggest name in a horror movie cast.

El Nuevo Remolque Asombrar Para El Labertino del Fauno!!

Filed under: Foreign Language », Horror », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Thrillers », Cinematical Indie »

It's a fairly rare occurrence, but man oh man is it sweet when you just KNOW you're going to love a certain movie. That's how I felt a few weeks back when I sat down in a Toronto movie theater to experience the newest piece of cinematic magic from mad genius Guillermo del Toro. That title, as I'm sure you know by now, is Pan's Labyrinth -- and if this flick doesn't make my year-end top ten, then that means December is going to be jam-packed with 5-star films ... which seems pretty darn unlikely, all things considered.

The movie is about a young girl who is forced to accompany her mother and nasty new stepfather to an isolted military outpost deep in the forest. There she discovers some fascinating relics, fairy-tale secrets, and creatures both dazzling and dangerous. The movie is a piece of dark, brilliant beauty and I simply cannot wait to see it again once it opens -- on my birthday! (That's 12/29 for those who aren't a member of the Scott Weinberg Fan Club.) Those who are hungry for a few new glimpses of the Labyrinth need only visit IGN FilmForce and check out the brand-newiest trailer they're offering. And don't worry: It's vague enough and admirably spoiler-free.

Pan's Labyrinth
was recently announced as Mexico's official Oscar-eligible release, and that's pretty exciting news for the genre fans. Frankly I think we should give Guillermo del Toro a big nerdy hug for treating the horror/fantasy field with such skill, color, sincerity and affection. If we had more genre-centric filmmakers like Guille, I suspect the movie world would be a much groovier place.
