Trio Head for a Fast Food 'Summer'
Filed under: Comedy », Independent », Romance », Casting », Cinematical Indie »
What do you get when you merge a dork with a saucy ex-13-year-old and a tough, star-tattooed fighter of evil?Variety reports that DJ Qualls, Nikki Reed, and William Sadler have signed on for an indie comedy by Vlad Yudin called Last Day of Summer. The film, which has a SAG waiver and is already in production in the Big Apple, focuses on an an agitated dude who works at a fast-food place. When he can't take it anymore, he plans to get revenge on his boss, but finds the plan disrupted by a beautiful customer that drops by. I'll take a wild guess and say that Qualls is the worker, Sadler is the boss, and Reed is the customer. It may be a crap job, but at least you know that if Billy Zane comes to kill you, Sadler can fight him off.
So, we know that Reed is getting vampiric these days with Twilight, and Sadler is taking a trip to The Hills Run Red, but what about Qualls? Do you even remember the guy? I had totally forgotten his name, but this is the dorky dude who played Kyle on Road Trip and starred in The New Guy. Remember? Is it time for a Qualls comeback!?
A Behind-the-Scenes Peek at 'Twilight'

I have never been all that keen to read Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance, Twilight. That is probably because I'm just a little out of the prescribed age range, plus, I'll always be an Anne Rice girl at heart. So like a lot of other people, I'll just catch the movie. Back in February, Monika brought us the first photo from the film set, and now ET Online has behind-the-scene video and interviews with cast members Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Nikki Reed.
In Twilight, Stewart stars as Bella, a young girl who moves to a dreary, rainy town and finds herself drawn to her mysterious (and plasma-challenged) classmate, Edward (Pattinson). The two begin to fall in love, and if all those years devouring anything remotely 'vampy' have taught me anything, it's that there probably won't be a happy ending for these two. When a coven of vampires that doesn't follow Edward's example of eating only wildlife comes through town, Edward and his 'family' band together to protect Bella.
Twilight has been filming on location in Portland, Oregon since February, and the production is scheduled to finish shooting later this month. Fans have had mixed reactions to the film (mainly over casting), but Summit is hoping that they can get enough of them into theaters for at least two more installments of the series. Twilight is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 12th. Twilight fans, sound off with your thoughts on the casting, and what you hope to see them do with the film.

More 'Twilight' Cast Confirmed

Just in time for the day of hearts, Twilight fans got some more news over at MTV. The site confirmed a whole collection of new cast members that have been added to the production, and conveniently, they also offer the characters they will play, and a little bit about them. Since this is a Catherine Hardwicke pic, it's not surprising to see Nikki Reed leading the list. She had her co-debut with Hardwicke in Thirteen, and also popped up in Lords of Dogtown. Beyond Reed, there's also Rachelle Lefevre (Suffering Man's Charity), Cam Cigandet (The O.C.), and Michael Welch (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane). The film, based on Stephenie Meyer's bestselling young adult book, is about a teen named Isabella (Kristen Stewart) who falls for a vampire named Edward (Robert Pattinson). Reed, at 19, will play a 90-year-old vampire called Rosalie Hale, who looks 18 -- she's a close friend of Edward's and "rolls into Forks High School in the family's silver Volvo, sits with the Cullen clan in the cafeteria, and shares a complicated love story with Emmett and Edward." Okay, it's got to be boring and sucky to be that old and still have to go to high school -- especially when you look old enough to pass as someone who graduated.
Casting Roundup: From Reed to Sadowski

Here's a few of today's casting bits:- You might remember Nikki Reed. She's the one who co-starred and co-wrote Thirteen, a story loosely based on her life, with Catherine Hardwicke. After cleaning up her image on The OC, the actress has signed on to star in Jonah Salander's Privileged, which is about a high-school girl who is the object of affection of two different boys -- played by Adam Butcher and Julian Morris. I guess the girl is ready to leave behind her troubled, 13 ways for double boy trouble.
- DeRay Davis, who has been in some stellar, comedic gems like Johnson Family Vacation, Scary Movie 4 and the recent Code Name: The Cleaner, has now signed on to the Will double-feature (Ferrell and Arnett) White Men Can't Jump 2. Sorry -- I mean Semi-Pro, which is set to start filming this month. It's hard to keep the name straight since the cast also features Woody Harrelson and Rob Corddry. In the Kent Alterman feature, Davis will play Bee Bee Ellis, a showboating basketball player.
- Jonathan Sadowski, of last year's She's the Man, has just nabbed himself a part in Bruce Willis' upcoming Die Hard sequel, Live Free or Die Hard, which is currently filming in Los Angeles. Sadowski will play a younger hacker who is at odd with John McClane. Perhaps he will be one of Timothy OIyphant's evil henchman? If there gets to be a huge melange of hackers in the film, they best be shouting: "Hack the planet!!!" Or, at the very least, rollerblading all over the place while wearing tacky clothing.
