Hardcore Mega-Splatter With 'Tokyo Gore Police'
The guys over at Twitch know a heck of a lot more about crazy Asian cinema than I do -- so when they posted a rather enthusiastic piece about an upcoming flick called Tokyo Gore Police, I was sufficiently intrigued. And then I watched the 5-minute promo clip, which is all sorts of maniacally insane. Now I officially cannot wait to throw my eyeballs at the flick, which comes from the guys who gave you Uzumaki, Meatball Machine, and many other memorably bizarre imports.I'd be happy to embed the trailer right here, if only for simple convenience, but since the Tokyo Gore Police clip is all but awash in hardcore gore, violence and random nakedness, I'll just point you towards Twitch for the gooey goods. (This sort of stuff is their specialty, after all.) No word on a U.S. distributor just yet (for all I know the flick's still being finished), but I'm betting I'll come across the Tokyo Gore Police at a genre-flavored festival some time soon. (And again, fair warning: Don't check this clip if you have an aversion towards hilariously over-the-top gore geysers.)
It's Official: Zack Snyder's Gladiator Flick Looks AWESOME!

If I said "Gladiator meets Sin City, from the director of Dawn of the Dead," what would your reaction be? If you answered "umm, yes please!" then you're officially invited to come see 300 when it hits theaters next March. Why all the excitement? Because apparently I'm the last movie geek in the world to have seen this fantastic promo clip for the film, whch premiered at Comic-Con a few months back and is now living comfortably on iFilm.com, which means I can watch it whenever I darn well feel like.
Adapted from the graphic novel by Frank Miller, which was adapted from an actual battle from thousands of years back, 300 stars the dreamy* Gerard Butler, the gorgeous Lena Headey, the Welsh Vincent Regan, and the Faramir David Wenham. Plot deals with the Battle of Thermopylae, in which 300 Spartans did battle with thousands of Persians. And much carnage ensued.
I wonder if those soldiers ever imagined that their battle would one day become a highly-anticipated comic book movie. Probably not. Also, the music in the promo clip is Nine Inch Nails. Can't remember the track's title, but it's definitely Reznor. One last thing: Production diaries on 300 are available at the official site, and they look pretty nifty.
(* Or so I'm told. Repeatedly.)
Hidden Catacombs Trailer
Filed under: Horror », Lionsgate Films »
Some time over the past year or two, Shannyn Sossamon flew out to Romania to shoot a horror flick for Lionsgate, and the studio still hasn't come close to announcing a release date yet. The flick's called Catacombs and it comes from the filmmaking team of (former Marvel artist) Tomm Coker and (Four Brothers screenwriter) David Elliot. I distinctly remember hearing a few rumblings about the project (it was set up at Twisted Pictures, aka The House That Saw Built) but it had pretty much fallen off my radar untl a few minutes ago. This unofficial trailer/promo clip for Catacombs just recently hit the interweb, and it looks like the set-up for a potentially cool horror flick: A gal wakes up after a rowdy rave, only to discover that she's locked underground all by herself. Actually, it gets worse: She's not by herself. Anyway, the clip reminds me a lot of Christopher Smith's Creep, and that flick was a fairly decent little shocker. Just something about the subterranean location works exceedingly well in most horror movies. Go buy a ticket to The Descent or give Raw Meat a rental and you'll see what I mean.
I'll let you know when Catacombs gets a DVD release date. Oh, and Pink is in the movie too. Weird, eh?
