If 'Rocky Horror' & Other Cult Films Became Theme Park Rides
Filed under: Fandom »

Bah .... Universal Studios has missed a chance for awesomeness. Variety reports that for the theme park's Halloween Horror Nights this October, they will be producing Rocky Horror Picture Show: A Tribute. Described as a "mini-musical," one can assume that means a quick tribute to the freakier pieces of the film and its classic songs. But having clicked through because of the title "Rocky rolls Universal Halloween," my hopeful brain was thinking about a Rocky ride.
Can you imagine it? You get clicked into wheelchairs with a metal piece that looks like a blanket, get time-warped through the craziness, and in the end, a magic mirror makes it look like you've got fishnets and stilettos underneath those "blanket" safety bars. (Yes, I'm imagining it as a Rocky Horror spoof of the Haunted Mansion.) Imagining something like that, a simple ol' stage tribute just isn't the same.

If you are somebody who is a little 'cinematically inclined', then I'm sure one of the questions you ask any new friend or foe is "So, what are some of your favorite movies?" Now I'm going to be honest here and tell you that if I'm trying to impress someone new, I might leave out a few of the less than 'high-minded' selections in favor of earning a little cool quotient by name dropping something underground or foreign. But, we've all got our dirty little secrets, and over at The Guardian Film Blog, Ryan Gilbey has taken the first step by admitting his top five embarrassing film obsessions.
Coming in at number one for Gilbey was John Landis' The Blues Brothers. As it turns out, Gilbey's love for the blues comedy faded as soon as he passed puberty and now his beloved film is "flat and joyless". But some of his other choices might surprise you, like Conan The Barbarian (which earned him plenty of commenter heat), and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (you can read the full list over at The Guardian). A little while back, Elisabeth bravely admitted that she was the owner of a DVD copy of Baz Luhrmann's romantic epic Australia (and what a relief it was to discover I wasn't the only one who fell prey to the infamous 'bucket scene') But, as shameful as that purchase might be, I think I might have it beat. Because, for my top five embarrassing favorites, unlike Gilbey, I'm not blaming them on my youth or nostalgia. Nope, my love of these five movies is just downright mortifying, so let's begin, shall we?

Marilyn Manson Rocky Horror Rumors Fly -- But Are They True?

Holy sweet transvestite, Janet. Rumors are swirling around the internet about the possibility that Fox may finally be making some progress on that Rocky Horror Picture Show remake and/or possible sequel we've been hearing about since 2002 (c'mon, guys, this can't be that hard -- it's just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right ... right?) The remake was supposed to have happened to coincide with the show's 30th anniversary, but that came and went a year ago (not that anyone's counting). The more interesting rumor du jour is that shock-rocker/artistic genius Marilyn Manson supposedly let slip in an interview with E! that Fox has approached him about the possibility of taking on the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, originated by Tim Curry. Before we go any further here, folks, I want to make it abundantly clear: All these stories out there -- every single one I've found thus far -- references a single piece on bloodydisgusting.com that's based on a single report from a reader that he or she heard Manson say on an interview with E! that Fox had approached him about the role. I haven't seen the interview myself, I can't find a copy of it online, and even the E! Online website, fount of truth and knowledge, makes nary a mention of this news. Manson's official website, while visually very cool, is either not navigable at the moment, or I'm not artsy enough to figure out where to click to get anywhere.
