Sam Shepard and Rosanna Arquette Are On the 'Run'

Filed under: Drama », Thrillers », Casting »

Bit by bit, the cast is falling into place. In March, Dermot Mulroney signed on to star in Run For Her Life -- the story of a father whose daughter needs a lung transplant. Since the young girl is low on the US list, he heads to Mexico to pay his way onto their list -- only to find out that they're killing thousands of kids for their organs. In June, Diane Kruger signed on to play his wife.

While there's still no young girl to be placed in the middle of all this (a Fanning maybe?), The Hollywood Reporter posts that Sam Shepard (The Notebook), Rosanna Arquette (Buffalo 66), Jordi Molla (Elizabeth: The Golden Age), and Vincent Perez (The Crow: City of Angels) have joined the mix. So, first is the source of all this intrigue -- Shepard is playing a DA who got an illegal heart transplant and persuades the couple to find one for their kid. Meanwhile, Arquette will play a pediatrician they talk to, Perez plays a doctor in a practice that "isn't quite what it seems to be," and Molla plays a corrupt cop.

Will Mulroney be a savior to everyone? Or, will he take some poor kids lungs to make his daughter better?

Diane Kruger Joins 'Run for Her Life'

The film industry is really loving organs lately. We've got organ repossession, and if you remember Scott's post from March, organ stealing with Run for Her Life.

Dermot Mulroney had signed on to play a district attorney dad whose daughter needs some new lungs. When he sees that she is ridiculously low on the official waiting list, he decides to head South of the Border (not the fireworks shop) to get on the Mexican list. But this is a thriller, so his values are threatened when he finds out that a bunch of kids are being killed for their organs. Now The Hollywood Reporter posts that Diane Kruger (National Treasure) will play his wife.

The idea of organ stealing can, and probably will, make for an interesting movie, but I imagine a number of people won't be happy with the portrayal of Mexico's organ donation program as a front for child killing -- unless the couple have somehow found some creepy doctors working outside of the system.

The film will shoot in New Mexico, but a production date hasn't been listed.

Dermot Mulroney to Go Lung-Hunting in 'Run For Her Life'

Don't you hate it when your daughter needs new lungs and your only recourse is to head down to Mexico for some spare parts? That's what's going to happen to Mr. Dermot Mulroney, who has recently signed on to star in an organ-harvest thriller called Run For Her Life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Mulroney will play a district attorney whose daughter contracts a rare illness and needs new lungs. After discovering she's low on the official U.S. waiting list, he heads to Mexico to buy his way onto their list. But his ethical nature is put to the test when he has to choose between saving hundreds of children being killed for their organs or saving his daughter's life."

Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur will helm the flick, which begins shooting in New Mexico late next month. The screenplay comes from first-timer Christian Escario, with a re-write from John Claflin, whom you might remember from Fool's Gold and Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid. Or maybe not.

And good for Mulroney, says me. I've been a fan of the guy's work since Young Guns, and I hope that since his solid work in Zodiac, he's past the Must Love Dogs / Wedding Date portion of his career.
