'Land of the Lost' Finds a New Trailer

Filed under: Action », Comedy », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Universal », Family Films », Movie Marketing », Remakes and Sequels », Summer Movies », Trailers and Clips »

It really has been easy to forget that Land of the Lost comes out this summer -- in fact, it comes out in a mere 28 days, which either makes this second trailer a bit overdue, or just in the nick of time. I confess, I rolled my eyes at the concept back when it was originally announced (and how many television shows have managed to be remade into funny, modern movies?), but this trailer -- which just debuted over at Moviefone -- makes it look pretty amusing. I actually giggled a few times! I think this is largely due to the cast -- Will Ferrell, Anna Friel (loved her since A Midsummer Night's Dream, which you should see if you adore her too), and Danny McBride really do make this work. Maybe my sense of humor is just skewed into a 12-year-old's today, but try not to chuckle at Chaka's meeting with Holly.

Perhaps it'll run thin over the course of the film, but for now it looks like a nice, goofy break between explosions and grimy heroes. Watch it below and see what you think, if only so you can say "Elisabeth, how the heck can you laugh at a boob joke?" I don't know, but I did, and I make no apologies for it.

A New Photo of Enik From 'Land of the Lost'

The gang over at Collider got their hands on a new picture from Land of the Lost -- and as I'd like them to keep their scoop (particularly since the trades like ripping them off), you'll have to click on the bug-eyed lizard to see the whole photo. Devin Faraci has confirmed the photo is the real deal, and that it's the first look at Enik. If you adored the show (which I didn't, the Sleestaks scared the crap out of me), you might remember this kind fellow as the guard of a time portal. He's played by John Boylan, who's really quite handsome under that make-up.

Enik represents what the Sleestaks once were -- a proud civilization called the Altrusians, a race that could talk and wear clothes, and who eventually devolved into the mean and naked Sleestaks. (Humanity, take note.) I'm not sure how they managed to make Enik look friendlier and less soul-destroying than the other Sleestaks, but his black eyes don't scare me nearly as much.

Land of the Lost
opens July 17th, 2009.

The Sleestaks of 'Land of the Lost' Remake

I can't even crack a joke about this picture. It scares the crap out of me -- those dark eyes are hypnotizing me, freezing my very soul. I don't even want to talk about it, but I have to. Universal has just sent us this hi-res photo (click to enlarge), which comes by way of USA Today and possibly my nightmares.

They have kept the basic design, director Brad Siberling says he fought to keep their original humanoid shape -- and to keep the kitschy appeal of a man in a suit. "There is a sense of humor that I loved from the original show that can only come from an actor trying to negotiate the suit. If it became CG, they'd be too perfect. For the Sleestak to remain in people's memories, it tells you that it was about who was in the suit."

The one difference is that the Sleestaks will not be armed with crossbows, as in the original television show. Instead, they'll pull quills from their spines and fire them like arrows. Murderous lizards are funny.

The Land of the Lost remake is scheduled to be released July 17th, 2009.
