Box Office Report: POTC2 Dominates as Major Debuts Flop
Filed under: Action », Animation », Comedy », Drama », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Mystery & Suspense », Warner Brothers », Box Office », Remakes and Sequels »
People, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has made over $321 million domestic. In THREE WEEKS. Good freaking lord that's a lot of money. Anyway, though off 43% from last weekend's earnings, Captain Jack easily retained his grip on the top box office spot ahead of three major debuts, taking in about $32 million from 4133 screens. The second and third spots, meanwhile, were filled by two of those new films, with Monster House making a respectable $23 million, and Lady in the Water earning just $18.2 million, well-below the expected "mid-$20 million" open for which Warner Bros. had been hoping. (Looks like it's not just those foolish critics who aren't smart enough to get the great M. Night, huh?) The weekends other big release, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, stumbled badly, landing in the seventh spot with only $8.7 million, a total that left it nearly $1 million behind Clerks II, which opened on about 600 fewer screens. That said, both films were beaten out by sophomore flicks You, Me and Dupree ($12.8 million) and the critically loathed Little Man ($11 million).Full numbers are after the jump.
My Super Ex-Girlfriend Launches TWO Sites

It's pretty typical for you to see the news of a new film's website being launched when you visit us here at Cinematical. It usually happens in the last few months of run-up, and they range from nothing-but-AIM-icons bland to packed-with-special-features informational. There's also the gimmicky ones, which play more to amusement as a means of drawing your attention. It seems like the new Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson vehicle My Super Ex-Girlfriend couldn't decide which one it wanted to go with ... and so they did both. That's right, there are now two websites you can visit for all your Super Ex-Girlfriend needs:- The official site at MySuperEx.com. It fits somewhere between the first two options -- it has a fair number of features, but most of them are not worth your time. There are the obligatory desktop wallpapers, plot synopsis, film images, and trailer. As well as some weird game, and a few other options which claim to be "coming soon." If you're really into Uma Thurman, it might be fun ... for the rest of you, nothing special.
- The gimmicky grab your attention website, BeMyEx.com, where you can find valuable information on how to break-up with the girlfriend/boyfriend you just haven't had the heart to dump flat out. There are some tips and tricks, a few lessons on video, and a few little fun features such as "top ten places to end a relationship" and the "shelf life of your relationship" quiz.
image roundup: back to the big boys
Filed under: Action », Comedy », Fandom », Movie Marketing », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »
So
yesterday's geek image roundup was absent images from the "big boys" of the industry. I thought it was amazing
that an entire day went by without new stills from Superman
or X-Men- but for those of you who were saddend by the
lack, I give you today's update to make up for it. It has pictures from both of the films- and Uma Thurman. Better
now?
- Superhero Hype has added two new pictures to their ever expanding X-Men 3 gallery- including a nifty shot of Mystique in action.
- The same folks offer us yet ANOTHER new look of prettyboy Brandon Routh in his Man of Steel wear. How many times can we see variations on the exact some pose before it gets old? Apparently, we haven't discovered the answer yet.
- Coming Soon has acquired a new and amusing image of Uma Thurman in her super-garb for her upcoming flick Super Ex-Girlfriend. Is that a hair dryer that fellow is weilding?
- Also, in case you missed it, Martha covered some interesting news on Transformers test footage. Check out here take here. It turned out to be a fake, but there's light at the end of the tunnel.
Uma Thurman as Super Ex-Girlfriend
Remember a month or so ago when we
discussed upcoming super hero/romantic-comedy movie Super
Ex-Girlfriend? In case you don't, the (very) brief plot synopsis is as follows: guy meets girl, guy breaks up
with girl for being neurotic and controlling, girl uses her superpowers to seek revenge through embarassment and
humiliation. The real kicker is that it stars Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson; a duo you wouldn't really expect to find acting together
in a romantic comedy. If I've got your attention with this description, please click here, and find a few production photos for your viewing pleasure. They
showcase an early look at Thurman flying. Or at least, "falling with style."
I remain excited by this movie, mostly due to the odd pairing of the leads. Thurman and Wilson are both highly talented, and they both have a relatively unique style-again a style that doesn't seem to lend itself easily to your garden variety romantic comedy. Which makes me hope that this flick will be much more than garden variety.
