Discuss: When Career Paths Make You Cringe

Filed under: Casting », Fandom », Lists »

It can be quite disappointing to see a beloved actor pop up in a terrible movie, but I'd say it's worse to see them in a terrible movie with a cast of people who used to be well-known. There's something about the has-been stigma that just hurts. One could excuse away bad movies to behind-the-scenes conflict or the need for cash (I'm looking at you, Michael Caine and Peter O'Toole), but joining a cast list filled with talent who used to be in big films just adds an extra slap.

See, The Hollywood Reporter posts that Tara Reid is making a Last Call, and she'll be joined by names that include Christopher Lloyd, Tom Arnold, Dave Foley, and Clint Howard. Sure, that last guy's career is all about the questionable gigs, but what's said with the rest of the roster? I don't want to say that these guys are has-beens, but thrown together and topped with the cherry skin-toned Reid certainly suggests as much. This is the sort of casting that screams the idea that names who used to be big will help the project's notoriety, without the need to pay the big bucks.

Tara Reid Returns to 'American Pie'

Filed under: Comedy », Casting », Fandom », Newsstand », Remakes and Sequels »

Back in October, rumors were swirling that the American Pie series was going to make a triumphant return to theaters after finding so much success in the direct-to-DVD market. While that doesn't seem to be happening just yet, we've got one better for you: According to Moviehole, Tara Reid will reprise her role as Vicki Lathum in the next bargain-bin sequel, currently titled American Pie: Skank Patrol! I kid, of course, they're calling this installment American Pie: Book of Love, and it apparently follows a group of kids who discover the so-called "sex-bible" from the original film in their school library and set out on a quest to lose their virginity. Reid appeared as Vicki in the first two American Pie films, and will join Eugene Levy as the only other original cast member still munchin' on that tasty pie.

Also returning to the series after a fairly long hiatus is screenwriter David H. Steinberg, who penned American Pie 2. Bug Hall, Kevin M. Horton and YouTube sensation Brandon Hardesty star, with John Putch directing. In the original American Pie, which is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year, Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) uses the sex-bible on Vicki, which could be how she ties in to this latest adventure. Either that or they'll be more literal about it and simply have her play a character who's searching for a way to pay next month's rent.

'American Pie' Franchise Returning to Theaters?!

Filed under: Comedy », RumorMonger », Fandom », Remakes and Sequels »

With filthy, foul-mouthed R-rated comedy making a huge comeback (thanks, in part, to the success of Judd Apatow's films) coupled with the fact that the original cast of American Pie aren't exactly A-listin' it up on the big screen lately -- well, it doesn't take a brainiac to imagine some folks might want to revive the popular teen sex comedy franchise and stick a new one in theaters. Seeing as the direct-to-DVD installments featuring Eugene Levy all did well for Universal, now might be the perfect time to reunite this cast -- all of whom could probably use the extra paycheck (ahem, we're looking at you Tara Reid).

According to Moviehole, that's exactly what Universal is looking to do. Though no one has officially joined the cast (I think it's easy to say Eugene Levy would do it for a credit and a gift certificate to the Olive Garden), but the site claims things are inching along and an announcement could be made soon-ish. One imagines any sort of theatrical sequel would revolve around the married lives of Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), and perhaps they'll tap in to the recent big-screen pregnancy boom and churn out something like American Baby ... or whatever.

What do you think? Is there room for another big-screen American Pie film? Would you see it?

Act Now! There's a Petition to Send Tara Reid to 'Elm Street'!!

Filed under: Horror », Casting », Fandom », Remakes and Sequels »

Because I can't say it any better than the fans do themselves, I'm going straight to the quote:

We feel young hollywood actress Tara Reid deserves a role in the upcoming Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street. She is a very talented and intelligent actor, we feel a a major role, in a major film will help revive her acting career. We feel she would be a truly great addition to the cast. Please truly consider her for a part, and check out how many people would love to see her in you're film.

This is no joke. In fact, 848 friggin people have signed this petition, as of lunchtime, as I write this. Now I understand Tara Reid having fans, and even enjoying her work. However, I am endlessly amused when fans try to assign attributes that just don't fit, like "very talented and intelligent actor." Okay, maybe those 848 think she's talented, but do her roles, or personal life, make "intelligent" one of her main characteristics? Maybe she is, but that's certainly not what she presents to the public.

So, should Tara Reid get to travel to Elm Street, or should she just head back to Salem's Lot? (Her first acting gig was in A Return to Salem's Lot.)

Tara Reid Joins a Brothel

Filed under: Drama », Independent », Casting », RumorMonger », Cinematical Indie »

On Tara Reid's IMDb page, there's a quote that says: "It would be the ultimate dream for me to win an Academy Award, be in love and have kids. Then I would say, 'Life is great! I have done everything I wanted.' I keep trying to get closer to that. I also think when that happens, people will finally leave me alone." Perhaps this Oscar-winning moment will come now that she's signed on to play a prostitute ... Or maybe not.

According to Ace Showbiz, there's a rumor going around that the actress will take on a role in Andrew Jones' indie drama called The Beautiful Outsiders. The film focuses on Jason Starkweather (Cameron Douglas, son of Michael), a former addict who is released from prison after 6 years. In a post-prison halfway house, he tries to stay clean and ends up looking up ex-girlfriend Sarah (Reid), who works in a brothel to pay her way through school. Somehow, remeeting makes them go on the run, fleeing the law while getting reacquainted.

Ugh. Adding "aspiring student" to a prostitute character doesn't make this fresh and new. This could be a great story, but enough is enough. The stripper/prostitute angle has got to stop.

Tara Reid to Play a Private Eye -- Honestly!

Filed under: Independent », Romance », Casting », Deals », Scripts », Cinematical Indie »

Ah, Trainwreck Reid. Um, I mean Tara Reid. The girl had a decent start. Her portrayal of hardcore rocker Cybil was one of the better performances in the terrible Blake Nelson adaptation, Girl. And, while she didn't mean to, her stiff rendition of an orgasm in American Pie provided laughs, even if not the type that was intended. However, no matter what she does these days, she's seen as the crazy party girl who not only got one hell of a botched boob job, but also can't keep her breasts in her dress.

Now with the help of Hi Happy Films, her strangely-named production company, Reid is not only executive producing but also starring in the upcoming romantic comedy, Honestly. The script comes from the man responsible for Wesley Snipes' Unstoppable flop of an action film -- Tom Vaughn. So far, not so good ... but it gets better! The movie is about a hard-boiled detective, Monica Hennessey (Reid), who seduces husbands to test their fidelity. Of course, in the vein of films like Failure to Launch, the detective falls for her prey, shocked by his niceness. Her brother, Tommy Reid, is set to helm the feature, and she'll be joined by co-stars Vinnie Jones, Juggernaut from X3, and former football man Eddie George.

Is there any chance this can be even remotely worthwhile?

Download Tara Reid's New Horror Flick for Halloween Pleasure

Filed under: Horror », Thrillers », Distribution »

So apparently Ms. Tara Reid has a new horror flick called Incubus, and you won't find it in theaters, on TV, or scattered amongst the DVD stacks. Nope, the only way to enjoy the flick, as explained last month by Ms. Kimmy V., is by downloading it from AOL Red, which I'm told is AOL's teen-centric department -- although someone oughtta tell the Red folks that Tara Reid is as much of a draw to teenagers as Ruth Buzzi is a draw to teenagers.

Directed by first-timer Anya Camilleri and written by also-newcomer Gary Humphreys, Incubus is about a group of teens (one of whom is played by Reid, giggle) who run afoul of a psychopath who has the power to control their dreams. Wow, that's completely unique. I've never heard of a horror series in which a bunch of teenagers are horrified and harrassed by a psycho with dream-powers!

Previously known as Heart Stopper, and then Nightmares and Pulse, Incubus debuts today on the AOL Red network. The price is $3.99 for a rental and $7.99 for a purchase. Interested parties may want to check out the trailer and/or the press release before parting with their cash, but hey, if Incubus is even half as hilarious as Tara Reid's last horror flick, I'd say that's $3.49 VERY well spent!

[Thanks to Movie City News for the tip. It gave me a hearty chuckle indeed.]

Tara Reid Goes Bowling

Filed under: Comedy », Independent », Sports », Casting », Newsstand », Cinematical Indie »

I hate bowling. Hate it. It's a source of constant frustration that something that seems like it should be so easy should be so God damn bloody difficult -- what is fun, exactly, about being constantly taunted by 10 deceptively vulnerable pins? (Can you tell I'm getting angry as I type this? It's 6:48am, and I'm mad about bowling. I may well need therapy after this post.) Luckily, though, my fury at the sport does not render me unable to enjoy movies that feature it. Meaning, for example, that I love to watch Donny and the Dude bowl. I'm not sure, however, that watching Tara Reid do so would be quite as much fun (unless she swears a lot and talks about Nam).

But for those of you who have a thing for both Ms. Reid and bowling shoes, here's your big chance: She's signed on to star in 7-10 Split, a bowling comedy that just happens to be her brother Tommy's directorial debut. The film, in which Reid gets to play The Girlfriend, is about "an aspiring actor who becomes the Tiger Woods of the bowling circuit. Together, he and his girlfriend put the fun and edge back into bowling." Really? This sort of thing is appealing to people?

The movie was written by Ross Patterson, who will also star. Production begins next month.

Tom Cruise = officially annoying

Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy », Lists »

AmIAnnoying.com has released its official lists of the Most and Least Annoying personalities of the year, and whilst all the usual suspects are represented - Michael Jackson, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and, for the second consecutive year in the number five slot, the elusive Osama Bin Laden – surely the least surprising "winner" is the sites pick for the most annoying celebrity of all, Mr. Tom Cruise. His antics have a far reach: surely at least in part thanks to his promotion thereof, the whole of Scientology came in at #17. Also on the list: Sadaam Hussein (still annoying in jail), Adolf Hitler (still annoying in death), and Tara Reid (still annoying in Taradise). Far more random is the Least Annoying, which is topped by the venerable Gene Hackman and includes such strange listfellows as John Goodman, Lisa Kudrow, and Leonardo Da Vinci. And surely there's been some mistake - how could Mandy Moore be the 4th least annoying person of the year? Shouldn't Entourage fans be up in arms?
