'The Spirit' Trailer Premieres!
Filed under: Action », Thrillers », Noir », Lionsgate Films », Movie Marketing », Comic/Superhero/Geek », ComicCon », Trailers and Clips »
The trailer comes to us by way of MTV so unfortunately we can't embed it. I barely caught the damn thing before it flashed off the main page. It looks very very Sin City -- which has already caused no amount of criticism. But I can't deny that I think it looks pretty intriguing. Maybe it's just that oh-so-sexy tagline. The Untouchables music is a nice touch, too, but also jarring. It started making me think of that movie instead of the trailer.
So, nothing new really -- Miller may be getting a fanboy reprieve. I'm in your corner though, Miller. The Spirit comes to the theatres January 15th, 2009.
Thanks to our reader Electrix for sending us the YouTube link! Now no one has to spaz out clicking the MTV link, and our international users can get in on the fun.
Freaky New Teaser for 'Pathology'
Filed under: Horror », Thrillers », MGM »
On the surface, Pathology sounds like it could be an ABC Movie of the Week: A group of medical students challenge each other to commit a murder that the others cannot detect once the victim is on the autopsy table. OK, a nifty enough premise, but here's what tells me Pathology won't be your typical medical thriller: It was written by the lunatics who gave you Crank -- plus the flick has been rated R for, and I quote, "disturbing and perverse behavior throughout, including violence, gruesome images, strong sexual content, nudity, drug use and language." Zow! I bet the MPAA had a ball with this flick!Directed by German first-timer Marc Schoelermann, Pathology arrives via MGM on April 18. (Fair warning, horror freaks: It looks to be a limited release affair.) And if you'd like to check out A) the old trailer just for a reminder, and B) a new teaser trailer that's so ... weird ... I just had to watch it twice to figure out the perspective, click right here. I could embed the teaser here, but I don't want any complaints about the clip's F-bomb, so instead I'll point you towards our friends at The Movie Blog, who've seen a nice hunk of footage from the flick and seem pretty psyched about it!
Plus hey, the flick stars Milo Ventimiglia and Alyssa Milano, so there's some eye candy for both genders.
New Website and Teaser for 'Saw 4'
Filed under: Horror », Lionsgate Films », Remakes and Sequels »
It's early September and you know what that means! Kids going back to school, a nice drop in the humidity ... and the beginning of another marketing push for yet another Saw movie. Trailers, websites, blood drives, icky-sticky poster art ... if there's one thing Lionsgate does well, it's market those horror flicks. And I guess it's an easier sell when the movies deliver the goods. (OK, Saw 3 was the weakest of the trilogy, but it's still a helluva lot creepier than most of the wide-release horror flicks!)Anyway, here's the brand-new Saw 4 website, complete with teaser trailer, wallpapers, production notes and some memorably ooky Charlie Clouser music. For horror fans hoping for a little new spice in the series, let's hope it'll be provided by screenwriters Marcus Dunston and Patrick Melton. (They wrote the fan-favorite Feast, but are complete newcomers to the Sawniverse.) October 26 is when the third Saw sequel arrives -- and Saw 5 a year after that. (No doubt.)
Special note to parents: Saw 4 is rated R for "grisly bloody violence and terror throughout, and language." But if you already let your 7-year-old see the first three flicks...
Teaser Trailer for 'The Spiderwick Chronicles'
If you like snakes, creepy goblin people and Freddie Highmore, then you'll love the teaser trailer for The Spiderwick Chronicles. The recently-released trailer gives us a sneak peak into Highmore's -- the magical child from Finding Neverland -- role as the title character in this adaptation of the children's lit favorite. Highmore is joining a more or less all-star cast that includes Mary Louise Parker (one of my favorites), Martin Short and Nick Nolte -- I've missed him, haven't you? The film is being directed by Mike Waters who is responsible for Freaky Friday and the brutally funny Mean Girls. The Spiderwick Chronicles is a series of stories about a young boy who acquires some great responsibility thanks to his possession of an eerie book found in his new home. The boy, Jared (Highmore), his twin brother Simon (also played by Highmore) and sister Mallory -- played by Sarah Bolger -- set out on a series of adventures with the strange beings who reside at the Spiderwick estate. Those beings, Jared, and his brother and sister all get into a series of mishaps that they have to get themselves out of.
Based on this trailer, the film and its creatures will look incredible and have a visual similarity to Highmore's recent film Arthur and The Invisibles. As for Highmore, he's been showing the kind of talent normally displayed by older, trained actors, which is why he's consistently a joy to watch on screen. The prodigy actor and the rest of the talented cast will be seen in February of 2008 when The Spiderwick Chronicles makes its way to theatres.
Slick New 'Hitman' Teaser Trailer Arrives
Filed under: Action », Trailer Trash », 20th Century Fox », Games and Game Movies »
Since I don't know a darned thing about the Hitman video game, all I have to go on (as far as the upcoming movie version is concerned) is this: It was written by the guy who did Swordfish, it stars the very cool Timothy Olyphant, and its first teaser trailer (available exclusively at JoBlo's) is pretty damn slick. Generally your action movie trailers are mega-loud and bombastic mini-movies, brain-pounding sensation crescendos that almost pummel you into submission. (Actually I really love those trailers!)The Hitman trailer, on the other hand, is quite the quiet and classy affair ... which somehow makes the flick seem just a little more bad-ass. Like I said, I've never played the video game, but I've been a fan of the Olyphant for quite some time (Deadwood rocks!) and I'm psyched to see him land a big-time action hero gig like this one. The director on Hitman is first-timer Frenchman Xavier Gens; his supporting cast includes Olga Kurylenko, Ulrich Thomsen and Dougray Scott. October 12 is when Fox plans to unleash the assassin, and I gotta say ... I'm all of a sudden pretty damn intrigued by this one.
Oh, I never mentioned the plot: It's about a bald hitman who kills a whole lot of bad people. Stylishly.
Joe Carnahan Says He's Seen 'Sin City 2' Teaser
Filed under: Action », Drama », The Weinstein Co. », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »
Say what you will about Joe Carnahan's movies (like Narc and Smokin' Aces, both of which I like quite a bit), but you can't say the guy's not a bona-fide, hardcore movie geek. (I actually had dinner with the guy once. Topics of conversation ranged from Richard Donner to Takashi Miike to Eli Roth.) Joe keeps a personal blog to blather away in, and right after sharing his writers' block stress with his fans, he mentioned something pretty darn juicy regarding Sin City 2.Seems that Robert Rodriguez stopped by to visit with Smokin' Joe, and he brought some footage that very well could be the very first Sin City 2 teaser! Here's what Carnahan had to say: "Robert Rodriguez stopped by the office yesterday and showed me what may become the teaser for 'SIN CITY 2' and HOLY SH*T is it something. I don't want to let any cats out of any bags, so all I can say is there's not a hetero male moviegoer alive that's not going to deeply DIG that spot. Remember, he's doing 'A Dame To Kill For' and brother has he got it."
So that means Rodriguez already shot some SC2 footage? Or did he just use his digital wizardry to cook up something sexy and sizzling? Hell, maybe the director will share it with the rest of us! I'm guessing that with the Grindhouse "push" well and truly over, Rodriguez might be focusing exclusively on Sin City 2 right now ... which is just fine with me. (And millions of other movie nerds.)
Brace Yourself for the 'Bloodrayne 2' Teaser
Filed under: Action », Comedy », Horror », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Trailer Trash », Remakes and Sequels », Games and Game Movies », Western »
Not since the days of Billy the Kid Meets Dracula and Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter has there been a promise of a Western / Horror amalgam as outrageous as Uwe Boll's BloodRayne 2. (It really is amazing how quickly Boll churns these things out. Far as I can tell, he's got Dungeon Siege, Postal, Seed and BloodRayne 2 finished or nearly finished. God helps us all.) But this one seems to have it all: Vampire vs. cowboys, horror mixed with action (inevitably mixed with a lot of comedy), Michael Pare as Pat Garrett, Zack Ward as a vampiric Billy the Kid (pictured), and even a brand-new Rayne! Natassia Malthe replaces Kristanna Loken as the titular terror tracker.Someone over at Boll's production company recently sent a plot synopsis over to the gorehounds at Bloody-Disgusting.com, and I can tell it comes from one of Boll's people because the text is sprinkled with sloppy grammar and spelling errors. (Could Boll be so prolific as to pen his own plot synopses? Based on the mild mangling of the English language, I believe it.) I'll paste the whole synopsis in after the jump (because it's pretty hilarious), but the short version is this: BloodRayne and Garrett do battle with the vampire Billy the Kid and his blood-sucking cronies. What, you expected Oscar Wilde?
No word yet on when BloodRayne 2 will be available for our ceaseless amusement, but I can't freaking wait for Boll to unleash his newest flicks already. I'm long past the point where I don't like the guy anymore, and I look forward to his flicks like an unkind pet owner looks forward to feeding his puppy beer and then watching the animal stumble into walls and trip over things. Few things in the world are as reliable as a Uwe Boll movie. Reliably, wonderfully bad, that is. Until BR2 hits your Walmart's bargain bin, check out this teaser trailer.
Teaser Trailer For '28 Weeks Later' Hits Internet
Filed under: Horror », Newsstand »
You're in for a treat; the teaser trailer for the next great zombie flick has been released. From what I can tell, 28 Weeks Later has a lot of running, fires and the oh-so strong heroic character out to save the human race. I love it. I have to admit that I was slightly disappointed when I learned that Danny Boyle would not be directing. 28 Days Later was truly an exquisite film on many levels; lighting, acting and composition were gorgeous. One of my favorite images was Cillian Murphy walking alone in the wilds of his newly emptied Britain; the magnitude of his size against the impending doom was paralleled to the massiveness of the commercial truck shadowed against him. Magnificent.Although Boyle is not directing, he is producing the film -- Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will take the torch to direct. Fresnadillo is in fact an Oscar nominated filmmaker for his short film Esposadas in 1996 and he's also partially responsible for the writing credits of 28 Weeks Later alongside Rowan Joffee. What are we basically in for? Well Britain has fallen, there isn't a living person inhabiting its streets. Thus America decides to come to the rescue ... but can the American army prove stronger than the zombie race? The full trailer will appear starting March 23 in theatres before The Hills Have Eyes II.
Teaser Trailer for Underdog Now Online
Filed under: Action », Animation », Comedy », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Disney », Trailer Trash », Family Films », Remakes and Sequels »
After seeing what Hollywood did with one of the finest cartoons ever made (The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, ugh!) I was more than a little skeptical when I learned that Disney was turning one of my very favorite animated characters into a live-action movie. The cartoon is Underdog, the movie version comes from the guy who did Racing Stripes, and the very first teaser trailer is right here. It's basically one of those "misdirection" trailers in which we're expected to think we're watching a "serious" promotional piece ... and then it's all fun and giggles when we get a flying dog thrown at the screen. Plus, and I know it's a major piece of geeky nit-pickery, but this cute little pup doesn't look a thing like Underdog! Someone get me the canine casting directors on the phone! Opening August 3 (against the teen comedy Charlie Bartlett and the spy thriller The Bourne Ultimatum), Underdog looks to have been a fairly "collaborative" production, what with its three screenwriters and ten (yes, ten) producers.
The title pup is voiced by Jason Lee; the supporting cast includes Peter Dinklage, Jim Belushi, Patrick Warburton and (the voice of) Amy Adams; and the tagline "One Nation Under Dog" is sure to cause some complaints across the bible belt. Bet on it.
Signal Trailer Infects FearNet!
Shameless horror junkie that I am, I left the 2007 Sundance Film Festival with two new genre favorites stuck right in my back pocket: Mitchell Lichtenstein's much-discussed Teeth and the Atlanta-born multi-director sci-fi horror apocalypse tale The Signal. It didn't take very long for a hungry distributor (in this case Magnolia Pictures) to come along and drop some coin on the nifty little flick, and now (courtesy of FearNet.com) we get our first "official" trailer for The Signal -- although it's really more of a teaser. (There was a promotional trailer up at the Shoreline Entertainment website a few weeks back, but I suppose this new one eliminates the need for that one. Oh well.)No word yet on when Magnolia will be unleashing The Signal, but those guys already have The Host and Severance next in line. (Like I said a few months back, it feels to me like Magnolia's looking to become the next Lionsgate, and I think they're doing a damn fine job with these foreign and indie pick-ups!) For those who don't have the time to read my stunningly insightful review of The Signal, I'll sum up the plot in only a few isolated words: electronic, infection, murder, mayhem, madness. There. At this point you're either in or you're out. More info on The Signal's release when it becomes available.
