Amanda Seyfried Talks 'Albert Nobbs' and Glenn Close
Filed under: Drama », Casting », Interviews »
While in NYC to discuss her sexy new thriller Chloe, from director Atom Egoyan, Amanda Seyfried was happy to chat about her new project with Glenn Close, Albert Nobbs. Close starred in an off-Broadway adaptation of George Moore's short story in 1982 as the title character, a woman who lives as a man in the Victorian era in order to take advantage of the luxuries and opportunities not otherwise afforded to women at that time. Close is starring as Albert Nobbs this time around too; she also co-wrote the screenplay and is producing the Rodrigo García-directed film.Seyfriend couldn't officially confirm that she was signed on to The Girl with the Red Riding Hood (after accidentally slipping up and mentioning it to Ryan Seacrest at the Oscars), but she was happy to discuss Nobbs, which sounds equally interesting.
"[Close] cast me in it to play her love interest ... and it's f*cking amazing. It's a really amazing script! It's crazy. It's a version of myself, but with an accent, so it's going to be really challenging in a very technical way, but I'm so excited to talk about that. That's confirmed!"
Seyfried and Day: The Two Red Riding Hoods

I completely understand the whirlwinds bred out of love for vampires and werewolves. They're powerful, they're mysterious, and they often have a nice amount of lusty machismo to make the young ladies go wild. But wolfy prey? Little red riding hood wolfy prey? While not the sort of theme one would usually expect to get dueling projects, there's now a feature film and television film about the young wolf victim in the works. It just goes to show you what happens when you mix supernatural passion with the trend to remake old tales.First, The Playlist noticed that on the red carpet at the Oscars, Amanda Seyfried confirmed that she will star in The Girl with the Red Riding Hood. You know, the Leonardo DiCaprio-produced feature that Catherine Hardwicke is helming and Seyfried was circling last month. (The feature Hardwicke is also describing as "super-sexy.") Second, Entertainment Weekly reports that web goddess Felicia Day will star in a Syfy flick called Red. She'll be a descendant of the famous Little Red Riding Hood, who "brings her fiancé home, where he meets the family and learns about their business -- hunting werewolves. He's skeptical until bitten by a werewolf. When her family insists he must be killed, Red tries saving him." It's quite the apt casting for the girl who was once a newbie Slayer.
Romantic Little Red Riding Hood movies. Whoulda thunk it? And how long until we get a saucy teen version of Hansel and Gretel?
Is Amanda Seyfried the Next Kristen Stewart?

Remember Leonardo DiCaprio's little werewolf movie, the one he's going to produce with Catherine Hardwicke directing? Things are moving forward with that production, and according to the LA Times, Amanda Seyfried is one of the names they're looking at. Seeing that no other names are mentioned in the piece, she could very well be the top name in contention -- albeit an older, Beverly Hills 90210 sort of casting choice.
Titled The Girl with the Red Riding Hood, the project is a modern spin on the classic Grimm story: "The story is an update of Little Red Riding Hood, with the requisite dark/dangerous/romantic elements that can appeal to Twilight fans -- while also attracting audiences who simply like the fairy tale." Yes, due to the werewolf element and the fact that it's based on teens, the Times positions it all in a Twilight world. That's fair, but this is one project that seems more based in something else. Aside from the solid source material, "The script has gotten high marks from power players around town, who describe it as elevated genre material a la this weekend's Shutter Island." Wouldn't it, therefore, be more precise to say this could be due just as much to The Wolfman as it is to the shirtless New Moon wolves?
Catherine Hardwicke's Post-'Twilight' Life

It looks like leaving Twlight was the best thing Catherine Hardwicke could do. While there have been insider murmurings and rumors that Summit wasn't happy with her work, that's not stopping her from getting a whole heck of a lot of it now that she's left the vampires behind. We've already heard about Maximum Ride, If I Stay, and the modern Hamlet. Now The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog is saying that there are also some biggie projects that could end up on her plate.First, Hardwicke is said to be in negotiations to helm The Girl with the Red Riding Hood -- the Appian Way/Leonardo DiCaprio project I mentioned earlier this month. (Variety, meanwhile, seems to think it's definite.) But that's not all. It seems she's also in early talks to helm the new feature film version of 21 Jump Street -- the project Jonah Hill is writing and thinking about starring in. Of course, there could be scheduling problems with all of these productions, so that will definitely play into whether she gets the gigs.
