Jessica Alba Does Charlie Chaplin??

Yup, she's at it again. Not long ago, Jessica Alba recreated several memorable scenes from classic horror movies for Latina Magazine. Now she's back, and in honor of her upcoming comedy The Love Guru, the actress posed for a photo as comedy legend Charlie Chaplin for the June issue of Allure magazine. It's actually a pretty funny photo, considering Alba's pretty pregnant under all those clothes. Definitely not as bad as those horror shots; in those pics, the gal barely looked like she was trying. Here, at least, she widens her eyes and does a little something with her mouth. Eh? Can you tell I'm reaching here? Let's not even touch the fact that she's posing as Chaplin to promote The Love Guru. I think we should make a rule right now: No one is allowed to pose as a comedy icon unless, ya know, that person also happens to be kinda funny on the big screen.

Check out Alba's last "recreation stint" in the gallery below.

The British Film Institute Refuses to Screen 'The Love Guru'

Well, for a tempest in a teapot the controversy over Mike Myers' comedy The Love Guru seems to be heating up by the day. CJ Report confirmed that the British Film Institute has responded to Hindu protests, and has issued a statement that the prestigious institution will "not be screening this title nor will be involved with a possible release of it." Now this doesn't mean the film will not be shown in the UK, but the BFI's refusal to support the film must come as a blow to Myers, a committed anglophile.

Guru is the story of an American-born guru who returns home to help coach a lovelorn hockey player with a struggling marriage. Sure, it looks silly, and a little stereotypical, but so did The Party and a lot of people seem to like that movie. According to CJ Report, "Hindu groups have recently been approaching film distributors associations, exhibitors groups, regulatory bodies, government ministries, theater owners, etc., in various parts of the world urging them not to distribute/screen The Love Guru till Paramount Pictures makes necessary changes to it." Paramount still maintains that they will screen the film for Hindu audiences, but they have not agreed to make any significant changes to the film.

The New 'Love Guru' Trailer

With every piece of marketing that comes out for Mike Myer's The Love Guru, I am less sure about whether or not this movie is going to work. The new trailer for the self-help comedy is now up on The Guru Pitka's MySpace page (that's right, he has his very own page), and after watching it I just don't know what to think. The first trailer wasn't so great, but then there were those hilarious You Tube messages. The latest trailer, though, puts the film back in the 'meh' category -- talk about confusing.

Guru is the story of an American-born guru who is hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs to provide counseling to their star player (played by Romany Malco). Joining in on the hilarity are Justin Timberlake (as a French Canadian player), The Daily Show's John Oliver as Pitka's assistant, and Jessica Alba as the love interest.

More 'Love Guru' Teasers - The Wisdom of Pitka

The movie might not be popular with religious leaders, but I am happy to report that there is a still a really good chance that The Love Guru could be funny after all. Mike Myers, in the form of Pitka the Love Guru, has been posting what he calls 'Mini-Sutras' in anticipation of the release of Guru this summer. There are seven videos in total, and promises of more to come with Pitka's musings on love, parenthood, and the importance of a good mantra.

Rumor Patrol: Seth Green Says There Is No 'Austin Powers 4'

It was a mere 11 days ago that rumors surfaced that supermodel Gisele Bündchen was in talks to star in Austin Powers 4. (You know, the movie that hadn't been mentioned in almost a year? That was our first clue that something was up). But today, MTV spoke with Seth Green (aka Scott Evil), and got the official word that we can chalk it up to just another crazy internet rumor.

Green told MTV, "I'll tell you what, if a script for Austin Powers 4 gets written and then it gets green lit by whatever version of New Line is still making movies, and everybody agrees to do it, then we'll have something to talk about. But at this point, Austin Powers 4 is nothing more than something Mike Myers talked about off-handedly during the Shrek press." I guess you can't get more straightforward than that.

I can't help but be just a teensy bit disappointed that a fourth film is not going to happen. I am probably one of the few people who thought Goldmember was pretty darn funny. Plus, I thought Myers was on to a good idea when he said that the fourth film would focus on Dr. Evil (with maybe the exception of the first movie, Dr. Evil's side of things was becoming infinitely more interesting). One thing is for sure, by the looks of the trailer for Myer's latest character comedy, I think I would much rather get another Austin Powers movie than another installment of The Love Guru.

Casting Rumor: Gisele Bündchen in Talks for 'Austin Powers 4'?

For starters, I had no idea that a fourth Austin Powers film was even on the horizon. So imagine my surprise when the Boston Globe reported that Gisele Bündchen was in talks to star in the latest installment of Mike Myers' spy franchise. According to the Globe, Bündchen has already been given a script and her agent is arranging meetings with Myers and producer Jay Roach.

Myers first spoke about another Austin Powers film back when he was still prepping The Love Guru with Jessica Alba. Myers had told MTV, "We're developing a fourth [movie], entirely from Dr. Evil's point of view." Myers also said that he would only be working on a Powers film in his spare time. Judging by Myers' slate for 2009 it doesn't look like he is going to have much free time; the actor is still attached to star in the Keith Moon biopic, See Me Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked for Your Pleasure, as well as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (both films are scheduled for release in 2009).

New 'Indiana Jones' Trailer This Week?

Looks like we'll be getting another Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull trailer as soon as this week, as The Hollywood Reporter tells us Paramount plans to debut the preview through a newly-created widget they hope will be passed around the internet like a virtual joint. Originally, their story claimed the trailer would hit this week, but they've since updated the story, saying, "While Paramount plans to launch the widget this week, the studio declined to state when the new trailer will debut."

Apparently, this widget will be used for a number of Paramount promotional material (roughly 10 videos total, including stuff for The Love Guru), as the studio attempts to benefit from blogs like this one who'd like to give their readers a chance to watch right away rather than click off to somewhere else. It's a smart move -- one that will probably cut down on the amount of YouTubed trailers embedded on various sites -- which is something the studios are probably itching to do. A contest will also launch along with this new trailer; one that will give two fans a chance to attend the Indiana Jones world premiere, as well as become red-carpet correspondents. Winners will be chosen based on whomever distributes their Skull widgets the most.

Stay tuned to Cinematical, because as soon as this new trailer hits, we'll have it for you right here. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull arrives in theaters on May 22.

Trailer Park: Once More With Feeling

Deja vu time once again. Today's gaggle of trailers all, for varying reasons, have a ring of familiarity to them. All together now: Once more with feeling.

Wanted
I've seen this before, haven't I? Not exactly. This is a brand spanking new trailer for the Angelina Jolie film based on the graphic novel by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. A young man with the rare gift of being able fire a bullet along a curved trajectory is asked to join a secret society of good guy assassins ("kill one so a thousand can survive"). Morgan Freeman plays, well, Morgan Freeman with a slightly gruffer edge to his usual fatherly demeanor. Jolie is hot to the point of being incendiary here (nice tats, and no that isn't a typo), but the "I'm cooler than God" shtick gets pretty annoying. The new trailer gives a better feel for the film than the teaser that's been out for awhile, and it looks like it might be a fun ride if you're in the mood for over-the-top action. Here's Elisabeth's take.

100 Feet
This one definitely looks familiar. Didn't this used to be called Disturbia, and it looks like Shia Labeouf has had a sex change. Oh wait, that's Famke Janssen. She's playing a woman sentenced to three years of house arrest, nifty ankle bracelet included, for killing her abusive cop husband. Christopher Campbell first posted about this one a little over a year ago. I'm no lawyer, but doesn't it seem odd to place someone on house arrest for that long? Prison starts to look pretty good, though, when the ghost of her dead S.O.B. husband starts looking for some payback. In addition to the echoes of Disturbia, the scene where Janssen screams "What do you want?" to the unseen entity reminded me a lot of George C. Scott in The Changeling, and the house arrest for killing a cop part recalls a decent little indie flick called Cherish. Still, this looks like it might be good for a few scares.

New Poster for Mike Myers' 'The Love Guru'

I just can't quite decide if Mike Myers looks comedic or downright creepy in the new poster for his romantic comedy, The Love Guru. Although, I guess it is pretty weak to be creeped out by a guy in a handlebar mustache holding a flower. IMPA Awards has just released the first poster, and the words mustache and flower pretty much sum up the one sheet. Well, that, and a fairly corny tag-line -- but I'll let you find that out on your own.

Myers stars as Pitka, an American raised by gurus who returns to the states to start up his own self-help business. His first project is to solve the professional and personal problems of a hockey player who has hit the skids (well, it is a Mike Myers movie after all, so hockey was bound to show up somewhere). Joining Myers in the cast are Jessica Alba as Myers' love interest, Justin Timberlake as a rival skater, Verne Troyer as the team coach, and Ben Kingsley as Guru Tugginmypudha. Also included in the cast are Romany Malco as the troubled player and The Daily Show's Jon Oliver as Dick Pants (is it just me, or do some of these names look like something you would see on a substitute teachers attendance sheet?).

The flick shot on location in Toronto over the summer, and so far we have only gotten a few sneak peeks of Alba and Myers on set. I can't put my finger on it, but there is just something about this movie that has me very nervous. So as much as I might like Myers, I don't think even he is going to be able to make Alba funny -- just ask Dane Cook. Personally, I think I'll just hold out for Myer's Keith Moon biopic instead. The Love Guru opens in theaters on June 20th, 2008.

First Pics of Mike Myers and Jessica Alba from 'The Love Guru'

I don't know what I miss more -- good comedy by actors like Mike Myers and Jim Carrey, or that time in the late '90s when their names were synonymous with morphing into almost-unrecognizable characters. Or, maybe I just miss comedies that refer to the Alan Parsons Project. Whatever the case, we're finally getting another Mike Myers-created comedy with The Love Guru, and USA Today has the first look at the guru Pitka and Jessica Alba. Myers looks pretty unrecognizable, sporting a curling 'stache, beard, and long hair, and Alba, well, she looks like herself -- the cute smiling girl in a tank top. The comedian and filmmaker normally stays away from transforming the lead women in his films, but it would've been nice to change that this time around. Still, I wish this was a video, so we could see Myers in action.

The story focuses on Pitka (Myers) an American left at the gates of an Indian ashram, who is raised by gurus, and then comes back to the US to focus on issues of intimacy between couples. Adding in a little of Myers' Canadian verve, he meets his match when he has to fix the relationship between a star hockey player (Romany Malco), and his estranged wife, who is bonking the star of his rival team (Justin Timberlake as a French hockey player named Jacques). He's got to fix things and get the player back on track so that his team, owned by Jane Bullard (Alba) and coached by Verne Troyer, can break their 40-year-old "Bullard Curse" and win the Stanley Cup. For hockey fans, you'll probably notice the similarities to the Maple Leafs.

Ben Kingsley Joins Mike Myers' 'Love Guru'

What's up with Sir Ben Kingsley as of late? First, he co-stars opposite Mary-Kate Olsen in The Wackiness, and now he's teaching Mike Myers how to wear a chastity belt in The Love Guru. Obviously, the man who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ghandi is looking to delve into some more commercial comedic fare, and The Hollywood Reporter tells us the actor has officially signed on to the Myers comedy as "Guru Tugginmypudha, the ashram leader who teaches the title character (Myers) how to love himself and wear a chastity belt." Nice. Meagan Good and John Oliver have also joined the cast, which already includes Myers, his Shrek the Third buddy Justin Timberlake, Jessica Alba, Verne "Mini Me" Troyer and Romany Malco (who I'm really digging on Weeds).

I've been itching to see Myers take on another bizarre character that wasn't either an animated green ogre or Austin Powers, and from what I've heard his love guru shtick is pretty hilarious. Should the film be a hit, look for Myers to be well on his way toward another popular franchise. There aren't many people left who are funny enough to carry an entire movie dressed up as some lunatic, and with the exception of Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat, it appears as if those SNL skit-type flicks are fading fast. Can Myers revive them? In The Love Guru, he plays an American raised in India by gurus who returns to his homeland in an attempts to help those in need. Alba's character, who plays the manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs (if you can believe that) hires The Love Guru to help one of her players (Malco) when his girlfriend (Good) ditches him for a rival hockey player (Timberlake). And if that doesn't sound absurd enough, Troyer will be playing the Leaf's coach. Fantabulous! The film begins shooting this Friday in Toronto, and is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 20.

Justin Timberlake Jumps on 'The Love Guru'

This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I actually think that some singers can become decent actors. Usually I prefer my singers to stay singers, my athletes to stay athletes, my directors to be actual film directors and I definitely (in most cases) prefer to leave the acting to the actors. But as I said, there are a few exceptions. Take former N'Sync member Justin Timberlake for example.

Sure, you could dismiss his acting talent simply because he used to be in N'Sync -- and that might be a valid reason to some. However, if you did that you would miss some of the good work he's done in films such as Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan. Obviously I'm not the only one who thinks Timberlake might have something going for him in the acting department because, according to Variety, he's just added another feature film role to his growing list of credits -- the Mike Myers comedy The Love Guru over at Paramount Pictures.

The film, which also stars Jessica Alba, was written by Myers and Graham Gordy and centers on an American (one that was raised in India by gurus) who returns to the States to start a self-help empire. Hilarity ensues (as it often does) when he gives advice to the wife of a famous Hockey star (Alba), who takes it a bit too far and starts dating one of her husband's rival players (Timberlake). Could be amusing. Myers is usually funny and Timberlake was pretty good on Saturday Night LIve, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. The film, under the direction of Marco Schnabel, begins shooting next month in Toronto.

Yeah, Baby? Mike Myers Wants to Make Another 'Austin Powers'

Watching the Saturday Night Live in the 90's special Sunday night, I was reminded of what a genius Mike Myers is. I still remember the flutter in my stomach on Saturday nights when I'd see that Wayne's World logo to open the show. But where has he been? Not counting the Shrek series, Myers hasn't been on the big screen since 2003's hairball The Cat in the Hat. I'm excited about next year's The Love Guru, which we told you about here and here. The film is said to be about "a Canadian raised in India who becomes a guru and helps the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup." When I lived in New York, I always heard about surprise improv shows Myers did around town as the Guru -- apparently the character kills. I'm less excited about Myers playing The Who's drummer in See Me Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked For Your Pleasure, but that might just be because I was so unimpressed by his last dramatic outing, 54. Still, it's good just to hear he's working, and I think we can all agree it was about time to move on from Austin Powers.

But wait. He's not moving on at all! Myers recently told Sci Fi Wire that he definitely plans on making another Powers film after The Love Guru, and that it will likely bring the focus to Austin's nemesis. Says Myers, "I have figured out that the story will be taken from the point of Doctor Evil. It will be powered from Doctor Evil's point of view. That will be the first of a trilogy...I'm just joking!...I haven't figured it all out. Who knows?" Ah, but are you joking, Mike? How long can you drag this out? Look, I love the first two Austin Powers movies, and I consider Doctor Evil one of the all-time great comedy villains, as I wrote about here. But Goldmember showed the formula is wearing real thin. Haven't we had enough? With all those classic characters at Myers' disposal, why is he heading right back to the well? Don't you think maybe it's time to take Doctor Evil's advice and just...zip it?
