EXCLUSIVE: 'Get Smart' Wallpapers!

Cinematical has just received these exclusive wallpapers for Get Smart, starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Alan Arkin. Get Smart, of course, is based on the popular '60s television series created by Mel Brooks -- and it features Carell and Hathaway as Agent 86 and Agent 99, respectively; both of whom are placed in charge of stopping those evil geniuses at KAOS from succeeding in their plan to dominate every man, woman and child on Earth. The wallpapers (there are five in total) can be found after the jump, and the dimensions below each denote the size of the wallpaper. To save as your computer's background, you want to click the appropriate size, right-click on the image that appears and click "Set as background." When it's all said and done, you'll be able to stare at Hathaway's beautiful face for as long as you please. And Carell, well, he's pretty hot too (but I didn't just say that). Get Smart arrives in theaters on June 20. Enjoy!

Head after the jump for all five exclusive Get Smart wallpapers, and check out images from the film in our gallery below.

Brendan Fraser and The Rock Join 'G.I. Joe?'

It is a regular Stephen Sommers reunion on G.I. Joe. Latino Review reports that Brendan Fraser has been cast as Gung Ho, the Cajun gunnery sergeant. But don't get too excited to see Fraser sporting that Village People outfit -- word has it that it's a cameo. He's already finished filming his scene, a training sequence at The Pit.

LR says an offer has also been made to Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to play Hector Delgado, aka Shipwreck. He hasn't yet accepted, but what red-blooded male is going to turn down a role in G.I. Joe? Despite the difference in ethnicities, the Rock would be a good fit for the popular character -- and he has the right humor to have a pet parrot making wisecracks at him.

You know, as I type this, it occurs to me that for most people, The Rock is probably a bigger name than Fraser these days. I think the latter is on the way to a comeback -- but will he actually stay working this time, or vanish off into the private life again? Perhaps he won't have a choice, the Gung Ho costume may force him into seclusion. As we wait for the Rock to commit, let's speculate on which Sommers veteran we will see next. I think Rachel Weisz is a no go, but surely someone from Van Helsing should appear before too long. What's Richard Roxburgh up to? They better nab him soon, G.I. Joe opens August 7th, 2009.

What a 'Spy Hunter' Movie Would Look Like

While watching television last night (might've been during the college basketball game), I spotted this new Pontiac commercial; one that utilizes the old school Spy Hunter game. Once it ended, my friend and I looked at each other and were like, "Dude, let's check that out again." The commercial starts out on that classic video game screen before transforming into this sort of half real, half CGI realm -- with the Pontiac car as the hero (of course), as well as all our favorite villains from the game (damn that guy with the spikes coming from his wheels).

As far as the actual Spy Hunter movie goes, that thing has been up in the air for, like, ever now. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was supposed to star in the lead role with Paul W.S. Anderson directing -- but that was before the strike happened and I'm not sure what the current status is. Based on this commercial, though, I think I'd want to see that movie. You?

Ciaran Hinds & Alexander Ludwig 'Race to Witch Mountain'

We're now two steps closer to Disney's 're-imagining' of the kid's classic, Escape to Witch Mountain. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Ciarán Hinds (Stop Loss) and Alexander Ludwig (The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising) are signed to star in Race to Witch Mountain, the update of John Hough's 1975 film. Witch Mountain focused on two orphans with paranormal abilities, and was based on the 1968 sci-fi novel by Alexander Key.

For those who didn't come of age wishing to be witchy orphans, the storyline focused on mind-bending siblings Tia and Tony, whose alien origins had them on the run from an evil millionaire. This will mark the second attempt at a remake, with the first being for TV back in 1995. Matt Lopez (She's the Man) was in charge of the re-write and Andy Fickman was signed to direct back in July. Casting for Race to Witch Mountain started back in August, when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson signed on for a role as a part time cab-driver and protector to the siblings. A little while later, Anna Sophia Robb was hired to play one of the 'spooky kids'. I can only guess that now that Ludwig is on board he will be taking over the part of Tony and Hinds will play the evil millionaire.

When the book was first adapted, there were plenty of complaints that Disney ignored most of the darker elements of the story. But Fickman has promised that this time around he is going to make, "a pretty bad-ass ride." Probably not how I would have described a movie from the man who directed The Game Plan; but you never know. Race to Witch Mountain is scheduled for release March 13th, 2009.

The Rock will Play The Tooth Fairy

No, it isn't April Fools Day yet. Now hearing this news, that The Rock was going to be the Tooth Fairy, led me to Bad Santa visions. Or, maybe a bit role in some weird dream sequence -- all the fairy tale people played by muscle-rippling ex-wrestlers. Then again, The Rock is pretty big on his feel-good roles, so it could just be straight up tooth saving -- and that's just what it seems to be. Variety reports that Dwayne Johnson is going to star in an upcoming project called The Tooth Fairy for 20th Century Fox. And these are the pens behind it -- Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel, plus Joshua Sternin & Jeffrey Ventimilia. Ganz and Mandel wrote Splash (Oscar nom), Spies Like Us, Parenthood, City Slickers...

If you're wondering how on earth The Rock could play the dainty, tooth-sneaking fairy, I have two words for you: Michael Lembeck. That not enough? He's the director behind the second and third sequels of The Santa Clause. To top that off, the Variety description goes right along with any logical assumptions made, based on Lembeck: "Johnson will play an ordinary man who's brought in to try to save the tooth fairy kingdom."

Does that mean he won't become the fairy and just help the fairy keep her kingdom, or are they about to get really progressive and slowly morph the beefy star into the petite dental icon of our youth? Production will begin this August.

'Planet 51' Adds a Rock, a Biel, a Long, and a Scott

When Christopher Campbell blogged about the upcoming CG-animated film Planet 51 last November, he suggested 3D and a few actors for the lead. Well, the actors are different, but when the film hits screens next year on July 24, it will travel to the third dimension. As for the cast, Variety reports that the voices taking this space adventure are Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, and Seann William Scott.

The Rock leads the cast of voices as the astronaut Chuck Baker. He lands on Planet 51 and thinks he's the first to step onto the surface. Not so, naive space traveling man. He soon discovers "green people who live in an innocent world right out of the 1950s, complete with the paranoia that they will be overrun by alien invaders." Whoops. There is no word on who the rest of the actors will voice, but I'll go out on a limb and say that planet's various greenies.

Now, when Christopher talked about the flick, he mentioned that the dude looked a little like Buzz Lightyear. He's definitely not far off -- Chuck looks like the typical CG lead. It's too bad they couldn't try to change up the look a bit, instead of continuing the goofy white boy look. I know, it's hard to come up with different looks since we all look alike, but as artists, that's their job! Argh... Maybe the next animated flick will mix things up a bit.

Nicolas Cage Wants 'Ghost Rider 2' and More 'National Treasure'

Last night I was watching The Rock with a stranded house guest (first snow = flight cancellations) who really loves Nicolas Cage. Near the beginning of the movie (one of my favorite guilty pleasures), she asked why Cage does these kinds of movies, and I replied that he must simply love doing dumb action. It's got to be easier and more fun than trying to win another Oscar, that's for sure. It's not surprising, coincidentally, to find some quotes from the actor on ComingSoon.net this morning in which he proposes a couple more dumb action movies he'd like to star in. The interesting thing, though, is that they're more sequels -- something Cage hadn't seemed too interested in prior to National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Of course, the only reason he never did a sequel before is more likely because his movies weren't big enough hits to warrant a follow-up. I doubt he would have turned down Snake Eyes 2.

The first movie he asks for is Ghost Rider 2, which he says could happen if only someone gives him a call. It's actually pretty surprising that nobody has contacted him about a Ghost Rider sequel considering it made more than $200 million worldwide, and it had a shockingly great opening -- the best 4-day President's Day weekend gross ever, in fact. Plus, director Mark Steven Johnson claimed last summer that there were talks for GR2. Cage said it would be "fun" to return to the comic book character with the flaming skull head (see: he does it cuz it's "fun"). The other hoped for sequel is a third National Treasure (the second, Book of Secrets, is out later this month), though he is interested in expanding the series so "it becomes more and more International Treasure." Maybe Cage is jealous of Indiana Jones, but he'd like his character, Ben Gates, to have to travel to London, Paris, Egypt, Africa, Asia and more. He said, "that would be a lot of fun for me." (see: he does it cuz it's "fun"). Well, Nic, here's what would be a lot of fun for me: Con Air 2. As long as you enjoy doing dumb action, why not bring back the funniest, dumbest action you've ever made?

Cinematical Seven: When Macho Actors Go Soft

Another macho man has made the obligatory leap into the kiddie pool. This time it's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who has gone and starred opposite a child in this weekend's new release The Game Plan. Could it damage his potential for further tough guy roles? Does he care? He's already signed on to another kid friendly part in Witch Mountain, so perhaps he's no longer worried about audiences accepting him as a muscle man with attitude.

The Rock, like Vin Diesel before him, may have jumped the gun on doing a Disney family film before securing an iconic place next to Schwarzenegger, Stallone and other action hero types. His movie may therefore lack that necessary extreme between the character we associate with The Rock and the character he must take on for the movie -- like the type of contrast that made Kindergarten Cop so funny.

But there are worse things he could do. Other action stars and macho actors have made some pretty terrible mistakes that had nothing to do with working with kids, and many of these mistakes were career altering. Let's just hope Dwayne Johnson never has to suffer such ideas as these:

1. Junior (1994, Ivan Reitman)

For a macho guy, finding out you have a kid is domesticating, but finding out you're pregnant is emasculating. Nothing says an action hero has gone soft like giving him a bun in the oven, and it's no wonder that Arnold Schwarzenegger had difficulty maintaining his image in action movies for the next decade -- until Terminator 3. I'm certain that if The Rock tried doing a movie in which he's with child rather than with a child, he'd cause far more problems for his career. At least Schwarzenegger had just a few months earlier released True Lies, and fans likely held onto the hope he would be back on top one day.

AnnaSophia Robb to Star in 'Witch Mountain' Remake

Poor Kim Richards. The former child star wasn't in too many films, but already one of them has been remade (Assault on Precinct 13, in which she briefly appears before memorably being gunned down) and another is on its way to the recycle bin. It's her best remembered, too: Escape to Witch Mountain. Previously we heard that Andy Fickman (She's the Man) would be directing a new version of the 1975 Disney pic, which was already redone once, for television, in 1995, and that Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), who stars in Fickman's new movie, The Game Plan, would be starring as a cab driver who picks up a pair of siblings with supernatural powers. Now we've got at least one of the siblings, the one that Richards played in the original and its first sequel (but not its sequel, where she was replaced by Growing Pains' Tracey Gold). According to MTV Movies Blog, AnnaSophia Robb (The Bridge to Terrabitha) has been cast in the new movie, titled only Witch Mountain, though whether or not her character will be named "Tia" was not revealed. Also as of yet unknown: who will play her brother, Tony.

The most interesting thing that was clarified was that Witch Mountain is not really a remake. Fickman told MTV that he didn't want to mess with something he loved as a kid, so instead the new movie is more like another chapter in the story of Witch Mountain (sounds like Robb could be a new character after all). The director also regurgitated the usual line about how people who have seen the original and people who haven't can all enjoy this next installment. Fickman also said his movie will be more like Alexander Key's novel, meaning it will be much darker in tone, and that The Rock will be the one who helps the kids elude an evil millionaire who seeks to exploit them. He fills the shoes of the original film's Eddie Albert, who Fickman believes was a laughable protector for Tia and Tony. The director promises the not-remake will be "a pretty bad-ass ride." You know, just as you'd expect from a movie featuring The Rock and children.

The Rock Wants You to Choose His Role in 'Shazam!'

We all know casting isn't as easy as looking at a contender and saying yay or nay. Sometimes actors get moved around to different parts -- sometimes making them stars, and sometimes making them sidekicks. But how often is a big name up for two lead roles in one movie -- and wants the fans to decide? The Rock, otherwise known as Dwayne Johnson, told MTV News that he is looking into two polar-opposite parts in the upcoming superhero movie, Shazam! -- both hero Captain Marvel and villain Black Adam. He's not too keen on picking, so: "It's up to the fans."

First up: Captain Marvel. The DC Comics superhero wears a shiny red bodysuit, gold accessories, and a pretty fancy cape. He's the alter ego of Billy Batson, a young kid who works as a radio news reporter, but is chosen by the wizard Shazam to be a hero. When he says the wizard's name, he's struck by a magical lightning bolt that gives him tons of powers, muscles, and makes him The World's Mightiest Mortal.

The other choice: Black Adam. This is the black nemesis to Captain Marvel, wearing a similar, all-black superhero ensemble. He's the hero's most powerful foe -- having had a similar run-in with Shazam, but using it for corrupt means. Having been a hero, a villain, and later a struggling antihero, Black Adam has been all over the map.

Looking at the two comic heroes on Wikipedia, The Rock looks the part for both of them -- if they can find a mini-Rock to play the non-powered Batson. So, who do you pick?

The Rock is Heading to 'Witch Mountain'

I guess it was only a matter of time. Last month, Jessica Barnes posted that the 1975 Disney classic Escape to Witch Mountain was going to be remade. This is the second round of remakes, since the first was done in 1995. Andy Fickman, the guy behind Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical and the upcoming childcare comedy The Game Plan, was tapped to direct. Considering the fact that The Rock stars in the latter, it's no surprise that Variety is now reporting that he's following Fickman and taking on a role in Mountain.

As long as the negotiations continue to go smoothly, Dwayne Johnson will take on the role of a Las Vegas cab driver who picks up the magical siblings. That's about all we know. How Vegas and cabbies fits in is anyone's guess. If you remember, the original is about a few kids with mental powers who find out that they are actually aliens. I hope I'm wrong, but I have this image of some super-corrupt man taking the kids and making them a Vegas show act. I guess I should just be happy that my favorite Disney kid flicks seem to be off the radar. Whatever the case, it looks like Johnson has found his niche -- busying himself with a collection of family and adult comedy. Now, c'mon, who's itching to see this? Anyone?

Mandy Moore Has Something to Say About 'Southland Tales'

Last week, I brought you news of director Richard Kelly's new movie, The Box with Cameron Diaz. In my report, I mentioned Southland Tales, Kelly's follow-up to the cult classic Donnie Darko. Tales premiered last year at Cannes, to largely negative reviews (like James'). But Darko nuts like myself are still dying to see the thing. As of last week, things weren't looking good, with the release not scheduled until March 2008. And now we've got more bad news. Southland co-star Mandy Moore is telling Sci-Fi Wire she doesn't know what's going on with the film, she hasn't seen any of it, and she doesn't even know if she's still in the thing! "I have not seen any incarnation of that yet," says Moore. "I had a great time working on it. It was one of those things where I met with Richard maybe two weeks before they started shooting. I had just finished that movie American Dreamz at the time, so I was like, 'Um, yeah, sure, I'll jump into this one. Why not?' I play The Rock's wife in the movie, if I'm still in the movie at all. They had to cut it down so much, and maybe they just cut out my character altogether."

Moore adds, "I loved working with Rock or Dwayne; I'm not sure what he prefers to be called now. Sarah Michelle Gellar was in the movie. It was just a fun, huge, gigantic cast of characters there. I'm not in the sci-fi element of it, and I don't get to sing." She mentions the singing because the film, at least in its Cannes inception, contained musical numbers. You see, it's a comedy musical sci-fi thriller, with elements of political satire (now maybe you're seeing why it's something of a tough sell). In addition to The Rock and Gellar, Moore is (or isn't) part of an extremely eclectic cast that includes Seann William Scott, Cheri Oteri, Miranda Richardson, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Smith, Amy Poehler, and fellow pop star Justin Timberlake. In reading up on the film, I realized it takes place in the very near future -- on July 4, 2008 to be exact. They pretty much have to get the movie out by then, don't they? Otherwise we'll be watching a movie about the future that's set in the past! Why don't they release it tomorrow, so we can watch it exactly one year from when it's supposed to take place? That'd be cool, no? Somebody get me Joe Hollywood on the phone!

Paul 'The Bad One' Anderson Given the Keys to 'Spy Hunter'

I'm actually fine with this, because who cares about Spy Hunter? Yes, I hung around enough bowling alleys when I was a kid to have played Spy Hunter many times. I remember the oil slick, the smokescreen, and that's pretty much it. It seems almost appropriate that the only person they could find to turn that into a movie is the auteur who brought us Alien vs. Predator and Resident Evil. Variety reports that in addition to directing the re-launched project for Universal, Paul Anderson will also be tackling writing duties along with another scribe. This move comes after many bumps in the road for the property -- among the writers who have already come and gone from Spy Hunter are Zak Penn, Derek Haas, Stuart Beattie and Michael Brandt. Director John Woo was also set to make a Spy Hunter film in 2004, but that deal fell through. The Rock has long been attached to play the lead role in the film, but there's currently no word on whether or not he's still on board.

Up next for Anderson is Death Race, a remake of the 1975 film Death Race 2000, starring Sylvester Stallone as Machine Gun Joe and David Carradine as Frankstein. Jason Stratham is currently attached to that one. Anderson is also attached to direct Man With the Football, a film about a group of terrorists who steal the President's nuclear football -- a briefcase he can use to send nukes wherever. That one actually sounds more promising to me than this Spy Hunter business -- maybe Anderson will be too busy with Spy Hunter and a good director will take over the Football project.

The Game Plan Poster: Exclusive First Look

Before he was known for his acting chops -- or for crushing WWF wrestlers with his signature Rock Bottom move -- Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was pretty adept at crushing quarterbacks as a member of the 1991 NCAA champion Miami Hurricanes football team. This fall, he returns to the gridiron for the family-oriented Disney flick The Game Plan, about a superstar NFL QB who's forced to question his swingin' bachelor lifestyle -- and his pigskin career -- when he finds out he has a seven-year-old daughter. We have an exclusive first look at the poster below (click on the image for a larger version).

The Rock Gets Smart with Steve Carell

Right around the time The 40-Year-Old Virgin hit the scene and had everyone (including producers and casting directors) rolling in the aisles, Mr. Steve Carell found himself attached to a whole bunch of comedy projects, one of which was a big-screen adaptation of Get Smart. The mid-'60s spy comedy was created by professional laugh-makers Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, and it helped to turn the bumbling Don Adams into a comedy star ... for a few years, anyway.

So a while back we heard that Carell was tenuously attached to this Get Smart movie, and now we know for sure that the thing's moving forward. Anne Hathaway signed on a little while ago, and today comes word that not only will the regally nasty Terence Stamp be playing the Get Smart villain, but also that Dwayne "The Rock " Johnson will be playing a good guy -- which means there might actually be some high-end action scenes in this comedy flick! Cool.
