Pop Star Rain Up for 'Enter the Dragon' Remake?
Filed under: Action », Casting », Warner Independent Pictures », RumorMonger », Remakes and Sequels »

Every once in a while you come across a piece of movie news that leaves you feeling a little conflicted. On one hand, the mind reels at the thought of somebody trying to replace Bruce Lee in a remake of the legendary martial arts flick, Enter the Dragon. But on the other hand, I'm not about to turn down the chance to stare at Korean pop star Rain for two hours -- I mean, have you seen the abs on this guy? So lustful thoughts aside, it's about time I got to the news, isn't it? Latino Review is reporting that their sources have confirmed that the singer/actor is the front-runner to star in an update of the 1973 classic.
The original film was the first kung fu flick to be produced by a major studio, and starred Lee as a Shaolin martial artist sent undercover to a hidden island in a fight to the death. The film is infamous for being Lee's last before his untimely death at the age of 33, but was also a passion project for Lee who wanted to celebrate Chinese culture and make a kick-ass action flick. I think we can all agree that he succeeded.
News Bites: Interviewing Faye Dunaway, Sports Heroes, and 'The Shield'

Celebrity interviews can be pretty nerve-wracking. The ante is upped even more when the interviewee doesn't give many interviews. You hope for the best, but sometimes that's not what you get. Xan Brooks got a chance to interview Faye Dunaway for The Guardian, and things didn't go so well. It started with a list of ixnayed topics, but one was left off the list -- Roman Polanski and rumors about Chinatown. He asked if it was true that she once threw a cup of urine at the famed director and well, she didn't take too kindly to that line of questioning. Follow the link to see what happened and then comment below: Was it okay for Brooks to ask her about that? Did she overreact? And then there's a little bit of tennis. Variety reports that Frank Deford's adaptation of his novel Big Bill: The Triumphs and the Tragedy, which focuses on tennis legend Bill Tilden, has been optioned by Baldwin Entertainment. This is a pretty old-school story -- Tilden won six straight U.S. Open singles titles in the 1920s, and was the first American to win Wimbledon. The plus about this feature: there's a lot more to the man than just rackets and balls. "He was also a contract bridge champ, musicologist, novelist, playwright and actor. On the other side of the ledger, Tilden was famously self-destructive, going to jail twice for sexual misbehavior with teenage boys and dying penniless." That should prove interesting.
Finally, Michael Pena told MTV that he'd definitely be in if a feature version of The Shield, if one was schemed up. In fact, he thinks there could be a prequel and that it would be "awesome." Me, I caught some old-school Felicity eps recently, and now I can't see him as anything other than the wanna-be ladies man who lived in the dorm. He's come a long way in 8 years.
Michael Chiklis Talks Possible 'Shield' Movie

I just danced a little Irish jig right here at my desk. In an interview over at MTVMoviesblog, Michael Chiklis discusses the "very real" possibility of a big-screen version of one of my favorite television shows -- The Shield. If you haven't seen The Shield (fool!), you may know Chiklis as The Thing from the Fantastic Four movies -- works that have received slightly less critical acclaim than the excellent FX drama. Says Chiklis, "Wow, there are a lot of questions about the potential of a Shield movie these days. I don't dismiss the possibility at all. I think it's potentially very real. It would all really depend on the idea. We are very, very protective of The Shield." And just as I'm in mid-jig, Chiklis clarifies: "I don't think The Shield will be a movie," he said of the series. "But I think that there's potential for Vic Mackey to be in a movie." Well. You lost me there, Chiklets.
I think Vic Mackey is a phenomenal character, and I love Chiklis' portrayal -- at times he is so intense it looks like he's going to pop a testicle. I would totally see a Vic Mackey movie ("This Christmas...Vic Mackey is Back - ey!"), but as a big fan of the show, I'd want to see all the other terrific supporting characters up there as well. What about Shane? Claudette? My absolute favorite -- Dutch? You wouldn't do The Simpsons Movie with just Homer! Also, if this does happen someday, it would be very wise of the producers to bring back Forest Whitaker as Kavanaugh. He was so insanely great on the show that this season felt lacking after his departure. A Kavanaugh/Mackey big-screen battle of the nutjobs -- now you got yourself a movie! If the film happens, it might just have to be a prequel -- in the cutthroat world of The Shield, Chiklis isn't even sure Mackey will live to see the finale. "It really depends on if he even survives this season. Because, with these writers, you don't really know. I don't think they even know yet how it's going to end ... but there's no question that it could go on."
Chiklis Talks Fantastic Four Sequel

In an interview with the good people over at IESB, Fantastic Four star Michael Chiklis (who spent most of his time chatting about the new
season of The Shield) dropped a few lines about the
upcoming film sequel for The World's Greatest Comic Magazine. Chiklis indicated that the crew was ready to go, and said
that the writers were currently about halfway through the script. He said that he believes the characters will stay true
to their comic book nature, and commented that "we will see shades of what have appeared in the comics."
Chicklis also believes that this film will be better than the original, because the characters are already introduced
and developed, which means that the film can hit it's major plot/action much quicker. When asked about the Puppet
Master making an appearance, he simply smiled and said that he'd been sworn to secrecy.
Regular readers will know that I have an absurd and embarassing like of the first FF film. I call it that because I'm an enormous and devoted fan of the comic book FF – it's my first and most true comic book love – so I'm fully aware of all the inconsistencies with the movie. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it because I saw The Thing in all his rocky glory, striding around and breaking things. Because I saw the Human Torch blazing a firey trail across the sky. You get the idea. I know...I should be ashamed of myself. And I almost am...almost. I'm also dreadfully excited to see the Four on the silver screen again.
