UPDATE: Over on their site, ThinkGeek has announced that the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag will indeed be available for purchase this November, though quantities will be limited. Folks interested in the $99 purchase (which is a lot for a sleeping bag, but c'mon -- it's a pretty awesome sleeping bag) are urged to register for updates through ThinkGeek so that when the item does become available, you won't miss out. This past April Fool's Day, ThinkGeek ran their usual line of fictitious geek-related items, including this fantastic Tauntaun sleeping bag that recalls the scene from Empire Strikes Back when Han sliced open the animal to keep Luke warm. When we posted about it, a bunch of you were itching to purchase your own Tauntaun sleeping bags even though the item didn't exist. And, in reality, a lot of ThinkGeek readers fell for the joke because an unusually high number of folks actually attempted to order the thing.

April Fool's Jokes: ThinkGeek's Tauntaun Sleeping Bag

Filed under: Fandom », Images »

Yes, it's April 1st, which means it's April Fool's Day ... and so all over the web today you have folks goofing around, playing practical jokes on their readers (ahem, why you lookin' at us?), and so on and so forth. Our various movie nerd friends are really having a good time -- creating the ultimate in ridiculous announcements, like Moviehole's four (!) pranks including one claiming Johnny Depp will play Freddy Krueger in the new Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Others went with the go-to film for high traffic, opting to create fake news for the next Batman movie (see JoBlo and InContention), while Slashfilm came at us with a new Matrix film starring Robert Pattinson.

My favorite April Fool's Day prank, however, is sitting over at ThinkGeek in the form of a fabulous Tauntaun Sleeping Bag (see above). You Star Wars geeks will immediately know what that image references, and while it's sorta gross, is it wrong of me to kinda want one of these? From ThinkGeek's description: "This high-quality sleeping bag looks just like a Tauntaun, complete with saddle, internal intestines and glowing lightsaber zipper pull. Now when your kids tell you their favorite Star Wars movie is "Attack of the Clones" you can nestle the wee-ones snug in simulated Tauntaun fur while regaling them with the amazing tale of "Empire Strikes Back".

You can check out a ginormous list of April Fool's Day jokes from around the web over here, and definitely let us know your favorites in the comments section below.

Fan Made: 'Star Wars' Slippers, Backpacks and More!

I'm not sure why or how it happened, but over the course of about three years I became obsessed with wearing slippers. Huge slipper nut right here! (I know there are other slipper freaks out there reading this, and if I could high five you right now, I totally would -- so long as I could keep my slippers on.) A friend sent a link my way for these groovy little Star Wars slippers available for purchase over on Think Geek. How awesome would you look strolling into a room armed with those Vader slippers and a martini? Seriously, you'd have to change your name to Awesomest Awesome PimpDaddy Jedi. Will they help you land a date? Not sure about that ... but if he/she doesn't love you and your Star Wars slippers, well, then I think we know of a detention area garbage chute they can be dumped in.

Also available over on Think Geek are Star Wars-related backpacks and plush toys. Check out a few in the gallery below, then head on over to the site and buy me everything for Christmas. Thanks in advance. You rock my force!
