Toy Story 3
Full length trailer for the Disney/Pixar sequel in which Andy goes off to college leaving Woody, Buzz and the gang to be donated to a daycare center. Looks like a worthy successor to the franchise. The toys start getting real again on June 18.
Serious Moonlight
In sort of a romantic comedy take on Misery, Meg Ryan plays a woman who duct tapes her cheating husband (Timothy Hutton) to the toilet and refuses to release him until he loves her again. Could be a cute idea but it's got a "wait for the DVD" feel. Watch for this one on December 4.
Dear John
Channing Tatum plays a soldier home on leave who falls in love with a college student (Amanda Seyfried) and carries on a long correspondence (hence the title) once he returns to duty. This is out on February 5.
The Missing Person
Filmnoir about a PI hired to tale a man who we eventually learn supposedly died on 9/11. I love the retro look and style of this one which will be out some time in 2009.
Broken Embraces
The synopsis for this one sounds intriguing -- a man chooses to ignore the life he lived before the accident that caused his blindness and killed his beloved -- but I don't see any of that in the trailer. On the plus side, Penelope Cruz is as stunning as ever. This will be playing New York on November 20 and Los Angeles on December 11.

I think it's safe to say that Toy Story holds a special place in the heart of most, if not all, modern film geeks. First and foremost it was a great film that, regardless of the technology behind it, tapped into everyone's inner child by wondering what the secret life of toys would be like. But not only did it usher in a new age of computer generated imagery that would prove, for the most part, the downfall in popularity of hand-drawn animation, it also introduced the world at large to a little studio called Pixar, a word that didn't make much sense back when Toy Story was released in 1995, but is now synonymous with the being the gold standard in animated filmmaking. Now that Toy Story 1 and 2 are currently enjoying a reborn run at the American box-office (this time re-tooled for 3D exhibition), Pixar and Walt Disney have unveiled the trailer for Toy Story 3 (watch it after the jump), their long awaited trip back to the toy box. The newest in the franchise will be the first made specifically for 3D, and judging by the trailer embedded below, it looks like the film's sensibilities have matured along with the technology powering the animation. Andy, the owner of all the toys, is all grown up now and ready to head off to college. His box of toys, a box so many of us have grown to love, has gone neglected for too long and now his mother is ready to put the dust-collecting bits of nostalgia out to pasture.
Disney/Pixar's John Lasseter Talks 'Rapunzel' Casting, 'Toy Story 3' Plot, 'Cars 2', 'Winnie the Pooh' and More!

Spoiler alert: The Marvel / Pixar Ant-Man rumors flying around are purely that ... rumor. That's according to John Lasseter, who headlined an enormous Disney Animation / Pixar presentation this morning. We spoke with him at a press conference afterwards, where he squashed the Ant-Man rumors, and wouldn't comment on possible sequels to The Incredibles or Monsters, Inc. He also said they have no plans to reopen the closed Disney Orlando animation studios, and when we asked him how they'll handle Doc's (Paul Newman) absence in Cars 2, to which he replied "You'll see."
Plus he had no news whatsoever of any Disney/Pixar/Marvel plans, although I guess that's hardly surprising since the ink is still drying on that contract.
That's the big news about what he didn't clue us in on. So what did he tell us? We found out that Rapunzel will feature the voice of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, and Zachary Levi as a roguish bandit named Flynn Rider who becomes Rapunzel's love interest. It will be Disney's 50th feature animated film, their first computer-animated fairytale, and the first CG musical. "There's a lot of girl power in this movie," according to Lasseter. Which isn't odd considering that it's about a young girl with 70 feet of hair. Read on after the break for more.
'Toy Story 3' and 'Cars 2' Plots Revealed

Even though it's TIFF time and seemingly the entire movie world is descending on my home town of Toronto, remember, the Great White North isn't your only source of movie news. During the London-based Disney Animation Showcase, Pixar's John Lasseter dropped a tiny bombshell and let a few details fly about the upcoming sequels (or 'threequel' in Toy's case) to Toy Story and Cars. To be fair, we only got a taste, but at least we know a little more than what we did before. So on that note, let's go right to the big dog first, shall we?
Toy Story 3
Back in June, Elisabeth brought us the news that Pixar was looking to make a more a little more 'grown-up', but details about the flick were still being kept under lock and key. Today, though, the big news came when Lasseter showed a clip from the film with Andy all grown up and packing for college, while Woody and the gang headed for a storage container. The scene goes on to show Andy changing his mind and holding on to Woody, but unfortunately the rest of the toys aren't so lucky. Lasseter also gave a preview of the upcoming trailer that fleshes out the story a little more, and it looks like the action will center on Woody saving his friends from a local daycare center. Lasseter must have been in the 'sharing mood' because along with the clips and trailers, he confirmed that Timothy Dalton will be adding to the mix as a stuck-up hedgehog by the name of Mr. Pricklepants -- a name I will totally steal if I ever get a pet, but I digress.

SDCC: Disney Does 3-D, 'Toy Story 3,' More

After Warner Brothers premiered footage from six of their upcoming film projects, including Jonah Hex, The Book of Eli and Where the Wild Things Are, Disney's John Lasseter took the stage to introduce footage and filmmakers from several of the studio's upcoming animated projects.
Among the movies covered:
- Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3-D -- Screening the opening, Star Wars-influenced sequence from Toy Story 2, Lasseter demonstrated the footage conversion and indicated that both films would look just as good as before, if not better, with that third dimension added.
- Toy Story 3 -- No footage from the film was screened, but director Lee Unkrich announced that Michael Keaton was cast as Ken, Barbie's longtime companion, and he showed fans a short "vintage '70s" featurette called "Groovin' With Ken."
Pixar Promises a Mature and Classy 'Toy Story 3'

When Toy Story 3 was announced to the wider world thanks to that little teaser before Up, a lot of people groaned. I don't know of a single person who hates either of the Toy Story films, and I don't think it's too mushy to say that they hold a pretty special place in everybody's heart. You don't want to see that watered down and exploited. Thankfully, it's PIXAR at the helm rather than sequel-squeezing Disney, and they assure everyone that the third installment will actually bring closure to the series. SciFi Wire caught up with animator Angus MacLane at the Saturn Awards (he was responsible for Burn-E, and has been with Pixar since Toy Story 2 where he created the crazy Buzz clone), and he spilled a few secrets on the newest adventures of Buzz and Woody. To the surprise of no one that saw Up, their final installment will be a bittersweet one. Lee Unkrich will be directing, and the storyline will center on Andy leaving for college.
"I feel like we've grown up making these movies, and each of the films represents where the filmmakers were at the time of making the films," MacLane said. "Certainly we're approaching this film 10 years later, so I think we're sort of coming at it from the standpoint of [Andy] has grown up, and we've grown up with these toys, and we have a reverence for them, but we also have different things as a priority." In other words, you should start stocking up on Kleenex now, and prepare to feel old and tired when you leave the theater.

The Final Destination
Take note of the definite article "the," as this is supposedly the final chapter in the Final Destination franchise. As with the other entries, a group of teens cheat death but are slowly claimed by a series of supernatural Rube Goldberg-ian death traps. This minor bit of scary movie fluff is made all the more interesting by the use of 3-D and I have to admit the man eating escalator (pictured above) looks pretty cool. Carnage ensues on August 28.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon
I haven't seen the original and I'm pretty far removed from the target demographic, but the overwrought dialog and performances here are a real cringe inducer. Suffice it to say if you like your teens angsty and your vampires sparkly then this Twilight sequel will be right up your alley. The ante has been upped by the introduction of werewolves to the story. Watch for this one on November 20.
'Toy Story 3' Teaser Arrives Online

Remember how the Digital Cinema Summit got a peek at a teaser for Toy Story 3? It took a few months, but it's finally online for our eager eyes to devour. However, since this is an early teaser, and not a trailer, there's no peek into the movie -- just Woody getting the whole gang together to make a cute, improvised sign for the film ... only to have Mr. High-Tech Buzz Lightyear show up and zoom away with the spotlight.Watching them make the sign, we get a quick rundown of all the awesome characters, from Wallace Shawn's almost-inconceivable Rex the Green Dinosaur, to John Ratzenberger's lazy Hamm the Piggy Bank to Joan Cusack's wild Jessie and Don Rickles' back-breaking Mr. Potato Head. Man, I love these guys. The animation might be good and all, but it's the voices that always got me.
Unfortunately, this is all we'll get for a little while -- the full trailer is supposed to premiere in October during that special double-billing of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D. Toy Story 3 is slated to hit screens on June 18, 2010.

Digital Cinema Summit Gets Teased with 'Toy Story 3'

Back in March, ShoWest brought news that we'd finally get to see a trailer for Toy Story 3 when the first two installments, all sassied up in 3D, hit the big screen as a double feature on October 3. That seems like a ridiculously long wait, but some lucky buggers already got a glimpse.Variety reports that Disney served up the first public screening of a teaser for 3 to the Digital Cinema Summit at NAB. It showed our beloved Woody supervising his fellow characters as they "improvise a sign for the pic, only to have Buzz upstage them all with a high-tech version." Hmm... Sounds like that little tinkering sound-bot that used to pop up before movies.
This footage is not really a trailer, and is nothing but the tiniest of teases, so I figure this little nugget of goodness should hit our eyes before that 10/3 screen date. Maybe in June of this year, marking the one-year countdown until Toy Story 3, in full-on 3D, hit screens on June 18, 2010.
Oh, 3D. What was once cheesy is now so very hot. It seems like every day we get more third dimension news. But what say you, Cinematical readers? Do you want to see Woody and Buzz zoom around in another dimension?
ShoWest in 60 Seconds: 'Sherlock Holmes', 'Tron in 3D' and More!

As we speak, ShoWest is going on in Las Vegas, where studios are making announcements and previewing new footage. Here's a wrap up from around the web of what's been seen so far:
Sherlock Holmes -- The trailer premiered at ShoWest, and everyone agrees that Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes is not the pipe-smoker of old. Slashfilm was surprised at how comical the footage was: "It felt a little like the humor of Disney's Pirates of the Carribbean films. Fans of Ritchie might be interested to know that the director's stylish cinematography was definitely intact. During a sequence showing the barenuckle pitfight, Holmes' punches are executed in a slow motion style reminiscent of the video game Fight Night. And while the film isn't set in modern day, the trailer had a very contemporary in-you-face edit."
Latino Review has a blow-by-blow of the trailer, and concludes that it "looks to be a cool mix of action and humor. Sometimes the dialogue was hard to understand because every actor seemed to have a different English accent." No one has a negative thing to say about it, except regarding Robert Downey Jr.'s iffy British accent. (Hey, anyone who saw Restoration should have seen that coming.)
Terminator Salvation -- There wasn't any new footage presented, except Slashfilm notes that Linda Hamilton does appear in the film as ... a photograph held by Kyle Reese. Nice bit of continuity, but nowhere near a cameo yet.
Tron 2 -- The film is officially retitled Tron and the ComicCon footage made another appearance -- but this time in 3-D. Collider freaked over it. "This was my first time seeing the Tron footage and it absolutely blew me away. If you're a fan of the original Tron, this sequel looks so amazing you are going to freak out when you see it in 3-D. Seriously. It will rock your world. This was easily the best thing I saw at the convention and I don't know what else is going to come close." Principal photography begins on the film in a few weeks.
