It's Official: Vanessa Hudgens Will Return for 'High School Musical 3'

Filed under: Comedy », Music & Musicals », Casting », Deals », RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy », Fandom », Family Films », Newsstand »

Do a little dance, make a little [fun with Disney] .... get down tonight -- oh yeah, get down tonight. Us Weekly reports Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale will indeed reprise their ultra-popular roles for the upcoming High School Musical 3. Not only that, but their "sources" say Hudgens will receive a "substantial increase" in pay. See kids, that's what you get for going nekked on the internet. Earlier this year, Hudgens was head-deep in a scandal which involved nude photographs of the actress that were spread online; photographs she apparently took in private for her boyfriend and High School Musical co-star Zac Efron. At first it wasn't clean whether the family-friendly Disney would allow Hudgens to return to the series, but then they came out and stood by her -- saying something like "we hope she's learned a valuable lesson."

Not long ago, a rumor claiming Hudgens was dumped by Disney spread like wildfire across these very same internets; a rumor that was very quickly shot down. Now, if Us Weekly is to be believed, the actress will not only be back for part three, but she'll be back with a heavier wallet. Kudos to the folks who negotiated her contract -- I imagine they used Jedi mind tricks on the Disney heads: "You will ask Vanessa to return. And you will pay her more money. And you will take those nude pics of her off your computer." Disney would not confirm the casting reports, only that everyone (including Hudgens) was still in negotiations. Chances are Efron will also reprise his role, though his publicist said a deal is not yet signed. So what do you think about this whole thing? Should Vanessa have opted out of High School Musical and looked for some more adult-themed roles? Or if she smart for remaining on this money train a little while longer?

Cinematical's Patrick Walsh on Owen Wilson's Suicide Attempt

Filed under: RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy », Fandom », Home Entertainment »

Seeing as Cinematical is a movie blog, a lot of our writers come from a blogging background. In fact, to give you a little backstory on me, I first started writing for Cinematical over two years ago after Kim Voynar discovered my own personal blog and invited me to join the Cine team. Needless to say, life hasn't been the same since. Unfortunately, my old blog isn't around anymore (although I miss cursing and cracking jokes about idiotic co-workers, jerks in the elevator and marriage), but that doesn't mean I don't still lurk amongst some others. When we first contemplated bringing Patrick Walsh onboard, it was his personal blog that convinced me this guy was not only funny, but he possessed the kind of original voice we love to see round these parts. Thus, it is with my great pleasure that I bring you one of the funniest pieces of writing that I've read in a long time.

You'll be getting to know Patrick a little better when he debuts his brand new screenwriting column later today, but in the meantime I'm going to point you toward his personal blog for a little story he wrote on Owen Wilson's suicide attempt. Yes, it's old news. And yes, Patrick wrote it last week. But I just noticed it today, and felt it was too fantastic to let it fly under the radar. In the piece, Patrick writes under the guise of US Weekly reporter Lou Cypher, and attempts to get to the bottom of all those salacious Owen Wilson rumors. A few words of caution: If the Wilson incident hits a little too close to home for you, this piece may offend. Keep in mind this is purely for comedic purposes, and I'm sure Patrick has nothing against Owen Wilson or suicide attempts. Also, I should note that there is some mild foul language included within. All that being said, I hope you enjoy -- it certainly made my day.

More Dallas Casting: Jessica Simpson, Denied

Filed under: Drama », Casting », Sony », RumorMonger », Newsstand », Remakes and Sequels »

The last we heard about the casting of Lucy Ewing in the Dallas movie, Erik told us that the dreaded Jessica Simpson had held meetings with Sony about the part; at the time her biggest competition was Miss Lindsay Lohan. Basically, it was a choice between the two most overexposed people on earth who aren't named Paris Hilton. Now, though, it seems as if the power of Simpson's boobs and Lohan's freckles were not enough to get the role: Sony turned them both down. MWHAHAHHAAAA!

According to a story on US Weekly's blog (Yes, they have one. Who knew?), the role has gone to Katie Cassidy (7th Heaven, Click, When a Stranger Calls), who beat out both Simpson and (wait for it) "actress" Kristin Cavallari for the part. (In the name of all that is holy, please let this be a sign Cavallari's 15 minutes are coming to an end.) The best thing abut the US story is that anonymous studio sources told them Simpson didn't get the part largely because of her reputation: "Producers wanted to steer clear of the drama." Not only that, but JLo herself was reportedly opposed to Simpson (and, it must be said, all big stars) as well, because "She doesn't want a diva on the set." Aw. Both a new divorcee AND a diva? Poor Jess.

Angelina picks baby over Bond?

Filed under: Action », Casting », RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy », Angelina Jolie », Brad Pitt », James Bond », Remakes and Sequels »

I can't believe I just typed that headline. US Weekly, here I come...

When the tabloids started spreading the news that Angelina Jolie had turned down the role of Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, most of us assumed that Angie's decision was based on the fact that she's obviously too big of a star to play what essentially amounts to a girlfriend role. But British rag The Globe (via Perez Hilton) is reporting that Angie's starry eyes aren't nearly as big as her stomach – or, read: She's freakin' preggers! If the tabs are to be believed, she wanted the part, but had to turn it down because of its action requirements. Jolie is said to be at least four months along, and as the Mirror reports today, a spy on the set of her latest film, A Good Shepherd, says her costumes have already been altered to make room for the – no, I can't. I can't do it. Okay, I can – baby bump. Perez also has a paparazzi shot of Miss Jolie, which seems to provide irrefutable evidence that the Oscar winner is, in fact, incubating a baby Brad – or else, she got caught on camera after a really big lunch.

I'm going to go wash the grease off of my soul before Bonnie Fuller sniffs it out and offers me a job. One last thought: wouldn't you rather have a pregnant Bond girl than see Jessica Simpson do it?
