Your 'Incredible Hulk' Questions Answered (Possibly!)

Filed under: Action », Universal », Fandom », Newsstand », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »

Somehow this feature slipped right by me -- hopefully, it slipped by you too so that this post's existence is justified.

Now that the dust has settled on the new trailer for The Incredible Hulk, you might have a few questions about it -- like "What's up with Abomination?" or "Who's that guy?" or "Why does it look all unfinished?" Just don't ask "Why didn't I like it?" because there are no answers for your worries, my friends.

Well, director Louis Leterrier has answers. In an Empire exclusive, he takes viewers frame by frame through the trailer and explains what is going on, why he did what he did, and that, no, the effects aren't done. Oh yeah, and that the final fight between Hulk and Abomination will be a doozy: "Our final battle – unlike a normal movie where the final fight scene is six minutes long, ours is 26 minutes long! So you get 26 minutes of two monsters pummelling each other through New York City, jumping up and down, ripping helicopters from the sky and stuff. You know, lots of green blood on the street, splashed all around. So it's pretty cool."

26 minutes? Wow, I think I'm tired just reading that, let alone watching it. Still, at least this isn't a movie where the Hulk rips Wolverine in half -- then we'd never get an ending at all ...

'The Incredible Hulk' Villain Revealed!

Filed under: Action », Fandom », Movie Marketing », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels », Images »

So far, we've only seen two pictures and a few different variations of the same teaser poster for this summer's highly-anticipated The Incredible Hulk. Word had it a trailer was supposed to debut during the Superbowl, but that never happened. And with all eyes turning to Indiana Jones next week, who knows when we'll finally get to see a bit more of the Hulk re-do, starring Edward Norton, Tim Roth, Liv Tyler and William Hurt. Well, good news is that, like what happened with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull last week, a flyer featuring toys from the upcoming Hulk movie has made its way online. It's not the real deal, but this flyer does finally give us a look at what the filmmakers have planned for Hulk's arch-nemesis Abomination.

Superhero Hype grabbed a photo of the flyer (which we've included after the jump for possible spoiler reasons), and I must say Abomination looks very cool. We haven't been given much to get excited about (with the exception of knowing that Robert Downey Jr. will make a cameo as Tony Stark at some point), and so seeing the toy version of Abomination will have to do for now. The flyer also features an image of the toy Hulk, which looks, well, like the Hulk we all know and love. So head on after the jump to get a taste of what we're in store for come June 13, and as soon as more is revealed we'll be sure to bring it to you.

Mark Beall's Geek Beat: Comic-Con 2006 In Review

Filed under: Fandom », Comic/Superhero/Geek », The Geek Beat »

Welcome back to The Geek Beat, readers. Last week we did the "what if Marvel fielded a baseball team" game, and this week we were scheduled to do part two of that column -- the All-Star Villains. A few readers made some very astute guesses, but you'll have to wait one more week to learn my starting nine, because this week's column is dedicated to a full-on, all-out wrap-up of the crazy week that was Comic-Con 2006. Geek movie news aplenty was pouring out of San Diego these past few days, and we're going to sum it all up in case you missed out on any of the action. If you read this and know of some fantastic bit of movie-related news which I overlooked, click on the comments and let us know. We'll make it a team effort. Ready? Here it goes:

Day 1
  • Lots of interesting news from a comic book perspective, including some great panels with DC and Marvel, but precious little movie news hit from the big two. Mostly, everyone was just gearing up. Marvel does, however, completely destroy DC in a softball game.
  • The agent for Doug Jones, the guy who played Abe Sapien in fan favorite Hellboy, said to expect a major casting announcement from Doug. Popular rumor expected this to be a deal to play the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four 2. Which, by the way, still has no official title despite what you've been hearing.
  • Rosario Dawson is very excited for Sin City 2, and is planning to bring her own comic series, Occult Crimes Taskforce to the big screen.

Hulk Versus Abomination

Yes, Hulk 2 is on the move. As part of the upcoming slew of Marvel films slated to hit the silver screen in the coming years, Hulk has apparently been granted a sequel -- and despite being handled by Paramount, it isn't covered by the recent financial arrangements people are referring to as Marvel's "war chest," which makes it a riskier film for Marvel financially. The second Hulk film will attempt to remedy what Marvel insiders see as the major reason for failure in the first: People wanted a popcorn action flick with lots of "Hulk Smash!" and were given a study in anger instead. This time, Hulk will be an out and out hero complete with a love story and plenty of fighting.

And oh, what a baddie he is slated to fight, according to Marvel guru Arad. The choice? Abomination! Yes, Hulk will be going toe to toe with another crazy, thousand pound monster.* Personally, I'm very excited for this film, but I hope Marvel can keep it together financially for the next few years. They aren't really a large enough company to absorb too many flops.

*Yes, comic book nerds, I am aware neither of them are technically 1000 pounds. Hulk is 1040 (unless you are talking gray Hulk, and really, who talks gray Hulk?) and Abomination 980.  Close enough.
