Hugh Jackman Reaches Out Via AICN, Attaches Photo

The enhanced senses of Wolverine were tingling thanks to all of us talking about those "extensive" reshoots. They were tingling so much that his real life counterpart Hugh Jackman actually e-mailed Harry Knowles at Ain't It Cool News to clarify what was going on with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and sent a photo that includes Deadpool, which I've added to our gallery below.

Here's Jackman's e-mail in its entirety, for your reading pleasure:

"Hey Mate- Would you mind posting this? Thank you for your support! HJ

Hey everyone -

It's Hugh Jackman, sending this note from freezing Vancouver. I have read a lot of your online comments regarding the footage that we are currently shooting and I share your passion for the Wolverine character and the movie - I owe it all to you guys!

I wanted to reach out and let you know that due to scheduling conflicts with certain cast members and location/weather considerations, we had to wait until now to shoot a couple of scenes. Please rest assured that WOLVERINE will be badass and hopefully meet all of your expectations. I am stoked by the positive response to the teaser, which clearly reflects the tone and scope of the film. If you like that, we've got much more in store!

In the meantime, here's an exclusive shot of some characters you may recognize ...

Cheers,

Hugh
."

So, they apparently aren't that extensive, but the usual type of pick-up shots, and we must continue to hope that Gavin Hood's vision wasn't crushed under the studio heel. In the meantime, I'm going to go giggle over the fact that Jackman's e-mail is apparently "fox.com," and then sulk because he doesn't e-mail me. Maybe I should play harder to get.

Tales of a BNAT Newbie

I don't need much of an excuse to visit Austin, Texas. Find me an event that A) strings more than four movies together, and B) takes place at one of the Alamo Drafthouse movie theaters, and there's a good chance I'm checking my bank account, desperately scrambling for flight money. But despite the fact that I've done five SXSW visits, three Fantastic Fest trips, and a few more Austin journeys just for the heck of it ... I'd never attended a BNAT shindig. But I made it to the tenth annual Butt-Numb-a-Thon, and of course I had a damn good time once it got rolling.

Let's just do a quick run-through, chronologically speaking, and I'm listing just the FULL movies here. At the end I'll go over the various clips we were treated to...

Who's Replacing Bruce Campbell in 'Bubba Nosferatu'?!

Filed under: Action », Comedy », Horror », Independent », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Casting », RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy », Scripts », Newsstand », Remakes and Sequels »

If you haven't seen Bubba Ho-Tep, then stop reading this post immediately and go to your movie renting outlet of choice. If you have (and I imagine everyone on Cinematical has) then you may continue.

There has been talk of a sequel to Bubba Ho-Tep for I don't know how long. I would venture to say that we were all pretty favorable to the idea, because more Bruce Campbell is always a good thing. But then came word that Campbell wouldn't be reprising his role as Elvis Presely in Bubba Nosferatu ... and well, who wants that?

Everyone associated with Bubba Nosferatu, apparently. Last year, director Don Coscarelli said he would replace Campbell with someone equally lovable. Word has it, according to an interview Ain't It Cool News held with Paul Giamatti, that the new Elvis is none other than Ron Perlman. Says Giamatti: "Our thinking was kind of like, "Well who the hell do we find who is a really good actor and a guy who is going to fit right?" You know what I mean? It was sort of like, for a while we let the thing sit and then all of a sudden we were like 'Well, maybe we should go to Ron Perlman,' which just seemed like a great idea and he was up for it." The plan is to start shooting Bubba Nosferatu in the spring, with Giamatti still attached as Col. Parker.

Call me a Debbie Downer, but my interest in Bubba Nosferatu died when Campbell dropped out. It kills me to say it, because the plot sounds terrific and I'd love to see Giamatti as Col. Parker. But I can't see Perlman, talented as he is, as this particular Elvis. It might just be me, though, and everyone else will be happy enough to see Elvis ride again.

Judd Apatow is Watching You Post

Filed under: Comedy », Fandom »

The online world is becoming a smaller place every day. Last night I was watching the always-delightful Late Night with Conan O'Brian and Judd Apatow was on to promote Pineapple Express. As I was preoccupied with writing, I was only half listening and laughing along, until Apatow started talking about his experiences with ComicCon and fandom.

Apatow confessed that he does go online to read, it seems, every word of angry backlash that is thrown his way. Just when it's on the verge of getting to him, he says (and yes, I'm paraphrasing since the episode isn't available on NBC yet -- I'll try to add it to this post when it is) "you realize that it's written by someone named DannyGloversD*ckBlood."

Sadly, I nearly died laughing, because I know the handle to be a real one. He's a regular presence around the infamous Talkbacks of Ain't It Cool News. Already, his fellow Talkbackers are congratulating him on his five minutes of fame. I don't know what is scarier -- that Apatow knows the name, that I remember it, or that someone said "Yes, this is the name I will use in a public forum." (Horror of horrors, what if it's actually Danny Glover?)

Like I said, the world of online geekdom is becoming a smaller place every day. When actors, directors, and producers say they're reading your message board posts, blogs, and sites, they aren't joking. You might be surprised as to who is lurking and browsing right beside you as you peruse Cinematical today. So remember: be nice, be honest, and for heaven's sake, choose your handle wisely! Hollywood is watching you.
