Warner Bros. Talks DC Comics, 'Justice League' and The Next Batman Movie

Filed under: Action », RumorMonger », Fandom », DIY/Filmmaking », Newsstand », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »

What's really going on over at Warner Bros. regarding their superhero properties? Is Justice League still moving forward? Has Christopher Nolan already signed on to direct a third Batman film? Will they attempt a move similar to what Marvel is doing and plot out solid solo flicks before combining worlds? Well, Variety recently spoke with Warners Chief Alan Horn, production prexy Jeff Robinov and Gregory Noveck, senior VP of creative affairs for DC Comics, and they brought back a few answers regarding all this fun stuff.

Firstly, a deal is officially on the table for Chris Nolan to (we assume) co-write and direct a third Batman film, however he hasn't made a decision yet. Horn said, "We have no idea where Chris is going with this. We haven't had any conversations with him about it." Hopefully an announcement on that front will arrive soon. With Justice League, Warners does eventually want to make it, but it definitely seems the early bad buzz from within the fanboy community is what put the breaks on this one.

Originally, it looked as if Warners was going to use JLA to launch solo efforts for a bunch of DC properties. Now, however, we're hearing a different tune. Horn notes they want to turn "the properties into viable movie product in an intelligent way so that we introduce them like planes on a runway. They have to be set up the right way and lined up the right way and all take off one at a time and fly safe and fly straight." So then what does this mean for the future of Justice League ... ?

Jackman in Superman...Why the Heck Not?

Filed under: Action », Casting », RumorMonger », Fandom », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »

Hugh Jackman has certainly become a geek culture favorite these days - his fantastic Wolverine portrayal impressed many a comic geek, myself included. He has since joined the Christopher Nolan cabal with a major role in the upcoming fantasy flick The Prestige (a film which seems to include everyone in Hollywood except maybe Ben Affleck), which has of course inspired a flurry of "Hugh Jackman will be in Batman" rumors - rumors which may possibly have been encouraged/substantiated by Jackman himself in a recent Australian media appearance. It seems like a natural progression anyway, since the entire cast and crew of Batman seems to be involved in The Prestige. At any rate, regardless of the truth of the Batman rumors, Jackman HAS apparently confirmed a brief appearance in that other major hero flick we keep hearing about. Yes, my friends, Hugh Jackman will be appearing in a small cameo as Clark Kent's father in a Superman Returns flashback scene - presumably (as CBR points out) this refers to Mr. Kent, and not Jor-El.

So...at this rate, can we just presume that Hugh will show up in every major comic book movie from now until the end of time? We can probably at least expect him to be rumored to do so. What do you think - Hugh as a newspaper vendor in Spider-Man 3? How about playing a Skrull in a future FF project? Maybe be can be one of the Corps in the rumored Green Lantern Trilogy. A spurned love interest for Wonder Woman? Or we can just have a movie called "Hugh Jackman: Hardcore Super Hero." C'mon, you know you'd go to see it.

Law Back on the Bat-Rumor List

Let's face it - thanks to the success of Batman Begins, Chris Nolan's upcoming Bat-sequel has a rumor mill which would be the envy of any daytime soap. The film is rapidly turning into a who's who of Hollywood A-listers, with names from Johnny Depp to Hugh Jackman being loudly whispered. In the latest news (brought to you by BOF), a familiar face from the past has resurfaced - throwing everything we thought we knew into confusion once again! Jude Law's name is once again making the rounds in connection with Harvey Dent (later known as Two Face). According to the very well connected people over at Batman on Film, Law's name has long been tossed around by the folks at Warner Brothers for an super hero film - and was once even considered for both the roles of Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent. Again, we are reminded that this is merely rumor and speculation; nothing is truly known at this point. Stay tuned for further updates as the Bat turns...

Jackman to join rest of Hollywood in Batman sequel?

If you've had your ear to the rumor mill lately, you've no doubt heard the latest crazy assertion from the Bat Cave. Sometime late this week the story began circulating that Hugh Jackman would join his fellow Prestige conspirators Michael Caine and Christian Bale (not to mention director Christopher Nolan) in the upcoming Batman sequel. The rumors apparently started when Hugh Jackman appeared on an Australian television show - an ambitious listener believed he heard Jackman mention that his next project would be the Batman sequel.

Exciting though this news may be, in all likelihood it is quite false. Batman on Film pulled their considerable resources to get to the bottom of the story, and are being told by every insider they know that the Jackman isn't in any plans for Batman. However, several Aussies have written in to the site to confirm the original quote, for whatever that is worth. My money is still on "not a chance."
