A whole bunch of casting rumors have arrived online this week, pushing some, like CHUD's ever-vocal Devin Faraci, to write an editorial-ish piece on why we shouldn't really be paying too much attention to these rumors because, well, they're rumors. And while your parents may have told you that rumors come from a stork who brings them in its mouth and drops them off on your pillow, the reality of the situation is that rumors can start from just about anywhere -- whether it's something overheard by some blabbermouth low-level assistant at an agency or something that's completely fabricated for more internet traffic (I'm looking at you The Sun and The Daily Express!), these days it's really hard to tell. That being said, rumors can be fun because they foster discussion and get those inner studio exec wheels turning in our brains, so here are a few making the rounds right now.
Spider-Man 4
Who: Julia Stiles
Role: Unknown, though with recent information somewhat confirming that Black Cat will be a character, folks are assuming she tried out for that part.
Source: UGO are the ones claiming Stiles met with a casting company in New York City to discuss joining the film in some capacity.
Our Thoughts: Stiles has been in a lot of films throughout her career, though she's dabbled in the big-budgeted before playing Jason Bourne's sidekick in all three Bourne movies. Thus, she definitely brings enough bad-assery to play a Spidey villain, and also enough sincerity to play a Spidey ally. Good choice for Black Cat in my opinion.
Original A-Team Making Cameos in New Movie?

I'm not going to pretend like I had any kind of a reaction to the initial news that Joe Carnahan was remaking The A-Team. I have no sentimental attachment to the original show from the '80s, nor do I have much affection for Carnahan's filmography. That said, once the film cast Liam Neeson, 'Rampage' Jackson, Bradley Cooper and Sharlto Copley as its crew of wrong war vets doing good while on the run, I was in. However, those who weren't too fond of the news of yet another pop culture staple getting re-manufactured by Hollywood might like to know that the original "A-Team" will be popping up in the reboot.
Well, at least one of them will. The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite is reporting the actor, who played the original 'Howling Mad' Murdock, has been on location in Vancouver filming his undisclosed role in the picture, which will be out in June of 2010. They're giving no hints as to who Schultz is playing this time around, but they have relayed his take on the District 9 star filling the same shoes he once did, "Sharlto Copely, the South African actor who plays Murdock, is according to Dwight: 'brilliant beyond words'. Dwight has seen his screen test and he stated: that honestly, if Sharlto is given an opportunity to do what I saw in that test, "Murdock" will be better than ever!"
That should be a sigh of relief to fans who were worried about the handling of their beloved characters. There's no mention if any of the other originals will pop-up in the new A-Team. George Peppard, who first played Liam Neeson's Hannibal, passed away in 1994, but Dirk Benedict and Mr. T could still join Schultz on screen. What say you fans of "The A-Team"? Bradley Cooper Gains Superpowers In 'Dark Fields'

The future Faceman may have lost the chance to fly as the Emerald Knight, but DC isn't the only place you can gain superpowers. You can also score them from top secret pharmaceuticals! (Don't try this at home, kids.) According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bradley Cooper is set to star in Dark Fields, a thriller directed by Neil Burger and based on the book by Alan Glynn. Cooper will play a writer down on his luck who manages to get his poor paws on a secret drug that promises to make one smarter. He doesn't go ask Alice before popping them, and finds that it's a wonder drug. He enjoys writing success, wealth and women until the side effects kick in. They're long lasting, potentially lethal, and have the extra kick of making time appear as a stop-motion movie. As if that doesn't suck enough, mysterious and unpleasant men begin pursuing him. Do they look like Shia LaBeouf, who was originally set to star? Hopefully not.
The screenplay was penned by Leslie Dixon, and is said to be similar to Fight Club and The Game, which might be a big spoiler as to the nature of those mysterious antagonists, which is why you shouldn't think about it too much. There's no start date, but hopefully he has no time between The A-Team and Dark Fields to squish in another frightening romantic comedy.
The First Official Photo From 'The A-Team'

We've had a lot of unofficial parparazzi shots of The A-Team and their van, but now you can go into your weekend having seen the real deal, courtesy of Salon Del Mal. Try to contain your excitement, as no one around you is going to understand it. Just keep the joy to yourself, and then when a coworker or friend says "Oh my God, did you see that official photo of The A-Team?", you can talk freely.
In all seriousness (well, as serious as one can get), this photo is kind of creepy. I have to echo Drew McWeeny of HitFix, who declared that Liam Neeson looked like he was wearing a George Peppard Halloween costume. I have to extend that to the entire cast, especially Sharltro Copley as Howling Mad Murdock. With all their talk of going dark and gritty, I expected the cast and crew of this would make this A-Team their own characters. The names would be the same, there'd be a few nostalgic nods, but they'd go in a unique direction. Instead, they just shrugged and made an exact replica of Mr. T. They really do look like a group of dedicated costumers that youd meet at DragonCon.
I don't mean to sound disappointed or negative. I'm not invested enough in the original to mind, and I like the cast Joe Carnahan has assembled. I think this could be fun. Even if it's not, at least I can gaze at Bradley Cooper and his leonine hair which is still very much intact. Never trust those grainy paparazzi images that say otherwise.

New A-Team Set Footage: 'More Muscle, Less Gold'

Feelings are mixed about The A-Team movie, and Entertainment Tonight's on-set visit doesn't shed a whole lot of light on the plot. Naturally, one of the team members (Bradley Cooper as the old Faceman) and the one lady in the movie (Jessica Biel as Amy Allen) used to date, and there's some undercurrent of drama between them. Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, who is taking over Mr. T's star-making role as Bosco Baracus, does sport the Mr. T hairdo (I pity the fool who calls it a hairdon't) but claims there will be "more muscle, less gold." And Bradley Cooper gives us some diet tips."No salt or sugar. That's been greeaaat. I just eat what they put in front of me, but it's a lot of, like, boiled chicken and brown rice and broccoli."
I'm going to go eat a hamburger in his honor.
Two stand-out people they didn't talk to include Liam Neeson and District 9's breakout star Sharlto Copley. I'm very curious to see if Copley can parlay his first role in a big-budget US movie into stardom. I hope so, because I thought he rocked in District 9, as anyone who has ever heard me screech "PRAWNS!!!" in a restaurant can attest.

'The A-Team' Is Up and Running!

Whenever these first images leak, I can't decide whether to say "Awesome, I love the Internet!" or feel sorry that the process of movie making is laid bare in the first weeks of shooting. While you ponder that, you can also gaze at the second unofficial photo from The A-Team, courtesy of Coming Soon. (The first was the van, remember?) Take your time, the first glimpse of the reassembled team comes only once. You probably thought it would contain blazing guns, or grim determination, but our unknown photographer caught the team looking rather sad. Did B.A. Baracus ever take a moment during the show to just sit down and have a good cry? He should have. They were accused of a crime they didn't commit! They were ostracized from their military comrades. If that's not worth a good, manly breakdown, I don't know what is.
Nevertheless, they look pretty good, don't they? I'm strangely transfixed by their hair. Liam Neeson's is an incredible, glowing shade of silver. Bradley Cooper has sacrificed his leonine mane to the service of Faceman, whereas Sharlto Copley was allowed to keep his. It's just now occurred to me that average moviegoers are probably not going to recognize either one of them, and that The A-Team will lead to them being called overnight sensations for the second summer in a row.

Jessica Biel and Sharlto Copley Join 'The A-Team'

Once the talks are done and the ink is dry, Joe Carnahan and Ridley Scott will have their The A-Team assembled. According to Variety*, Sharlto Copley (better known as Wikus Van De Merwe in District 9) and Jessica Biel have been enlisted into the cast, which already includes Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.If you know your A-Team, you can probably guess who Copley is playing: Howling Mad Murdock. He was the team's edgy and unpredictable helicopter pilot, always freshly escaped from the mental asylum just in time for an adventure. It was never clear if he was truly mentally unstable and friends with an invisible dog, or if it was all an act. (Somewhere, there is a student who did a paper comparing Murdock to Hamlet, and somewhere a teacher flunked him unfairly.) If you saw District 9, you know Copley is perfect for the part, so there's no need to say anything more other than "That's so cool! May he become a big star!"
Biel's character is actually quite interesting. While she's the "former love interest" of Cooper's Faceman, she's not just the obligatory girl who is only there to remind you that their love is just brotherly. She's actually a general in the U.S. Army bent on capturing our heart-of-gold mercenaries. Will her love for Cooper's blue eyes and just-so hair win her back, and see her actually join the A-Team for the inevitable sequel? Will she always be the villain of the series, finding them just when they think they're safe? We'll know soon, The A-Team begins shooting later this fall in Vancouver, and will hit theaters June 11, 2010.

UFC Fighter to Play B.A. Baracus in 'A-Team' Movie

The rumors of casting B.A. Baracus started months ago, but I'm honestly a bit confused as to why it has taken as long as it has for UFC champion Rampage Jackson to be crowned the official replacement of Mr. T in Joe Carnahan's relaunch of the '80s action series The A-Team. He already looks the part, he even acts the part both on and off stage, but most importantly, the man's handle is Rampage. I'm fairly certain fulfilling the role of a soldier of fortune who destroys everything around him and shouts dominating one-liners at anyone who gets in his way was always this man's destiny.And yet the news of Rampage's casting as Baracus still hasn't come from an official source. Instead, the Vancouver Sun has done all kinds of sneaky detective work to put two and two together: On August 19th he was in Vancouver, where the A-Team is filming, to talk to Carnahan and his producers. Now Rampage Jackson is back in town and can be seen signing autographs for fans when not walking around the A-Team set. It's also been learned that he pulled out of an upcoming UFC fight to free up his schedule.
So really, it's not sneaky detective work at all, it's just common sense on the part of the Sun. Then again, it's common sense for the universe to have someone who goes by the name Rampage play a character whose initials stand for Bad Attitude. I'm not trying to downplay the importance of a casting department, who already nailed down Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson as the biggest tentpoles of Carnahan's elite A-Team, but I'm confident casting anyone but Rampage would have been a metaphysical impossibility.

Sandra Bullock may yet be one of our great living movie stars, capable of stealing just about any scene from any other actor. If only she could just find her place. Her role as the woman who winds up driving the bus in Speed was the breakout performance of a lifetime. In one scene, the bus approaches a lady crossing the street pushing a baby carriage. There's nothing anyone can do, so Sandra just screams and covers her eyes. The baby carriage goes flying, and -- not a baby -- but empty cans go flying and rattling all over, with the angry woman shaking her fist at the departing bus. Keanu Reeves tries to calm Sandra down by explaining that it was just cans. Her hysteria lasts a few more seconds, but it's so over-the-top utterly charming that Keanu can't help but smile at her. I've always suspected that that was a genuine smile from Keanu, not in character, and that director Jan de Bont just left it in.
After that she starred in While You Were Sleeping (1995), an above average Hollywood romantic comedy that made a nice profit. From there Bullock found herself locked in a struggle with her own career. She was perfect for romantic comedy, and whenever she made one, it was a hit, up to and including this past summer's The Proposal. The trouble is, it seems, that Bullock doesn't really want to make romantic comedies, but whenever she tries anything else -- like her great performance as Harper Lee in Infamous (2006) -- no one notices. She even became her own producer several years back in an effort to grab the steering wheel of her own career, but she's wrestling with a much older problem. It's called typecasting. Nobody ever wanted to see Charlie Chaplin make serious movies, nor did anyone ever want to see John Wayne play meek and mild-mannered.
Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake Finalists for 'Green Lantern'

Hal Jordan might just be bringing sexy back. Or he might look an awful lot like Deadpool. Or he might just have a really wicked hangover. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros and director Martin Campbell have narrowed he who will wear the ring to three candidates: afore-mentioned Bradley Cooper , Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Timberlake. (Give one up for Ain't It Cool News, who had Timberlake in the suit on Thursday.) Lest you think these are just overblown screentests, THR reports that Timberlake, Cooper, and Reynolds all had holding deals with the studio, though all three expired Monday. That puts the clock to ticking and will force the studio to make a decision soon, as they'll be free to accept new roles. They've all done two rounds of screen tests, and survived the other finalists, including Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill, and Jared Leto.
So, there you have it. My personal pick would be Cooper, because Reynolds is already associated with Deadpool, and I don't like my superheroes crossing over into other superhero roles. I think we all know that if Timberlake nabs the role, all hell is going to break loose, though I'm willing to keep an open mind. The most unlikely choices have consistently worked for superhero roles, and Timberlake could shock everyone. Besides, it's not that hard to see -- he's got the cockiness of a test pilot, the charisma of a superhero, the physicality for the stuntwork, and the cleft chin. He's proved to be a capable actor, and I really think time and experience could make him into a very good one. The only real issue I see with it is that it smacks of stunt casting, and a way to lure in audience members who wouldn't know Abin Sur from Ras al Ghul.
