Seth Rogen is 'With Cancer'

I predict that the news you are about to read will result in many people shocked, shocked! that someone would make a comedy about cancer. Even The Hollywood Reporter sounds a little uncertain about the news. But once you read the film's plot, I think you're going to see exactly what kind of movie this is.

Mandate Pictures has bought I'm With Cancer, an autobiographical comedy by Will Reiser. Seth Rogen, the busiest man in Hollywood, is set to costar and produce the film alongside his writing-producing partner Evan Goldberg and The Daily Show's Ben Karlin.

Reiser's script is based on his own battle with cancer, and is centered around an up-and-coming 25-year-old who discovers he has the disease. I think you know where this is going. This isn't going to be some spoof of serious illness, or run with the idea that coming down with cancer is funny. Cancer is going to be about a young man trying to deal with something that could kill him, finding the humor in hospital situations, and using it to stay sane. Laughter is the best medicine, and all that. Given that Reiser obviously conquered his disease to co-produce this movie, I bet it will even have a happy ending. You know what I'm also willing to bet on? Medicinal marijuana jokes. If there isn't at least one, I will eat this post.

Paul Newman IS Battling Cancer, Says the Actor's Friend

Filed under: RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy »

This morning I was happy to read a post at the Orlando Sentinel, which said that they spoke to Paul Newman's agent, Toni Howard, and she says the reports that he is terminally ill with lung cancer are "not true."

For a while, official confirmation had seemed inevitable. Paul Newman had pulled out of production of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, which he was slated to direct for Connecticut's Westport Country Playhouse. He looked frail during a Polo for Children benefit with Martha Stewart. And the most brow-raising of them all -- he handed over his ownership of Newman's Own to charity.

So, the rumors started to bubble up -- he was diagnosed at a center in New York, was getting treatment, was terminally ill ... so on and so forth. But then I started finding reports that were much more cryptic, saying that he is"doing nicely." Now, Jam Showbiz!/AP reports that friend and writer A.E. Hotchner (who helped start the salad dressing company) says that he is, indeed battling cancer. "I know that it's a form of cancer," Hotchner told The Associated Press. "It's a form of cancer and he's dealing with it." He went on to say: "He's battling. He's doing all the right stuff. Paul is a fighter. He seems to be going through a good period right now. Everybody is hopeful. That's all we know." Mr. Newman, our thoughts are with you.

Roger Ebert Going In For More Surgery

Damn Vincent Gallo for cursing cancer on Roger Ebert! Ebert will be going back into surgery on June 16 to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland. Back in 2002, the film critic underwent surgery for papillary thyroid cancer. A year later he was back in the operating room for the salivary gland and afterward he went through radiation therapy. Not long before Ebert first showed signs of the cancer, actor Vincent Gallo had coincidentally cursed the disease on Ebert after receiving a bad review from him.

Ebert told Chicago Sun-Times columnist Robert Feder that the cancer, "isn't life threatening," and he'll, "continue to function as a film critic during this time."

We at Cinematical wish him a very quick and healthy recovery.
