BREAKING: Morgan Freeman Airlifted to Hospital After Car Crash
Filed under: Newsstand »
WREG-TV in Memphis is reporting that actor Morgan Freeman was airlifted to The Med hospital in "critical condition" following a car crash in Mississippi late last night. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the actor's car reportedly went off Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County at around 11:30PM and "flipped several times." A woman in the car with Freeman was also taken to The Med. WREG says they were told by police Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
TMZ reports that, according to their source, Freeman was "sitting up and talking at the hospital" following the crash, that the actor suffered some broken ribs and injured knees, and that his female passenger had to be cut out of the car using the Jaws of Life, but that she's also okay.
Freeman lives in Mississippi, where he took time out of his busy filming schedule in February to give a boost to the Oxford Film Festival as a surprise guest, showing up at the fest's first screening to kick things off with some words of encouragement for the fest and attending filmmakers, and encouraged the local audience to continue their support of independent film.
The venerable actor was most recently seen in box office smash The Dark Knight as Lucius Fox, and IMDb lists numerous projects in pre-and-post production on his slate. We here at Cinematical hope that Freeman will be okay, and we thank Michelle Emmanuel at Oxford Film Festival for letting us know about the accident this morning. We'll keep you posted throughout the day as we have updates for you, in the meantime, we'll be keeping Freeman in our thoughts and prayers.
Nicole Kidman In Minor Car Crash Thursday Morning
Filed under: Drama », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Celebrities and Controversy », DIY/Filmmaking », Newsstand »
Early Thursday morning, Nicole Kidman was in a car crash while performing a stunt during the shoot for her latest film, The Invasion. The accident, which didn't look too bad based on the video obtained by TMZ, occurred when Kidman's Jaguar (not her real car, but the one she was driving in the film) was being dragged around a corner by a camera rig. At some point it briefly lost control of the Jag which swung out and crashed into a pole. Glass went everywhere, and folks immediately ran to get Nicole -- no one appeared to care much for the little stunt boy sitting in the front seat. Hey, he was wearing a helmet!
Luckily, Kidman walked away from the accident with a slight limp and appeared to be a little shaken up. In the scene, Kidman's character is attempting to escape zombies or aliens (something not from this world) which have attached themselves to the hood of the car. In total, eight people were injured and taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated. There's no word on whether this has or will delay shooting on The Invasion -- apparently, Kidman might have returned to work later in the day. In the pic, Kidman co-stars alongside her Golden Compass pal Daniel Craig.
BREAKING: Haley Joel Osment in Serious Car Crash
Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy », Newsstand »
Man, you know you're getting old when little Haley Joel Osment is driving -- did you know he was 18-years-old already? The actor, who is set to play a high school journalist covering a basketball team in the upcoming Home of the Giants, was driving his 1995 Saturn (Wait, why is Osment driving a 1995 Saturn?) in a suburb of Los Angeles at about 1am when he lost control of the car, hit a brick pillar and flipped over. LA Country Sheriff's Lt. Greg Sisneros said Osment was awake and talking following the crash, though he had no further information on the star's current status. Here's hoping the kid is okay.
In somewhat related news, actor Daniel Baldwin (brother of Alec) was in a high speed crash of his own after plowing into two parked cars in a rented silver Thunderbird going approximately 80 miles per hour. Baldwin, who has been battling a substance abuse problem for awhile now, is being held in police custody at the UCLA Medical Center. Sources say he could face drunk-driving charges.
