'The Expendables' Gets Some Sexy Charisma
Filed under: Action », Casting »
Any group of big macho men needs a bombshell to level the playing field. But who do you get to balance a team of cinema's quintessential toughies? Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and two of my favorite men -- Eric Roberts and Danny Trejo, are all in The Expendables -- the film that has quickly turned into a display of Hollywood's leading testosterone. And to balance the machismo, TV Guide reports that Sly has grabbed the beautiful Charisma Carpenter.
Stallone must love the ladies of the Whedonverse. First he teamed up with Julie Benz (Buffy and Angel's Darla) for Rambo. Now he's got the other Queen of Joss Whedon's vamp shows, Ms. Cordelia Chase. She'll play Statham's girlfriend, who I'm guessing keeps his bed warm between his expendable gigs as a mercenary.
It's not quite the gig Carpenter fans would hope for, especially in the wake of all those Wonder Woman wishes, but who knows? Maybe the woman with the powerful accessories will get her chance after Carpenter struts her stuff on the big screen. It's about time the actress got a path out of guest spots on television shows.

Wonder Woman Casting Rumor #438: Sophia Bush Says Maybe ...
Filed under: Action », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Casting », RumorMonger », Fandom », Comic/Superhero/Geek »
Yes, we now officially have another name to throw in the Wonder Woman pot -- this time around, it's actress Sophia Bush who seems to be raising more than a few eyebrows. IESB recently sat down with Bush to discuss her role in The Hitcher remake, and decided to bring up a rumor they had heard awhile back but never wrote about. When asked whether she had discussed playing Wonder Woman with the powers that be, Bush simply replied, "Maybe." Oh, and then she smiled.
Bush's name has now been added to a long list of potential actresses up for the role, which includes Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, Charisma Carpenter, Jessica Biel, American Idol's Katherine McPhee (chalk that one up as the most bizarre), Rachel Bilson and Cinematical's own Kim Voynar. (Keep in mind, Kim has nothing whatsoever to do with Wonder Woman, but I thought it would be fun to toss her name into the mix as well. Go Kim!)
Though we still don't know exactly where Joss Whedon is in the production process (re-writing draft 15, perhaps?), it can't be long before his star is announced. As far as Sophia Bush goes, she fits the perfect age range (unlike back when she was replaced by Claire "Why am I so boring" Danes in Terminator 3 for being "too young"), certainly looks the part (then again, there are thousands of pretty brunettes out there in La La Land) and, according to IESB, she has a kick-ass physique -- one that's capable of, well, kicking ass. So I guess we'll see -- is "maybe" with a smile enough to get excited? Not for me ... but I could care less about a big-screen version of Wonder Woman. Your thoughts?
Charisma Carpenter Still Wants Wonder Woman
Filed under: Action », Casting », RumorMonger », Fandom », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »
It has been a popular one thus far, featuring names from all over Hollywood, and until writer/director Joss Whedon gives his final word, the rumor mill surrounding casting of the lead in Wonder Woman will continue to swirl endlessly. An early favorite among Whedonites was Charisma Carpenter, who had worked previously with Whedon on his television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (playing Cordelia Chase in both). While dozens of names have been tossed into the ring, few have been met with the popular support Carpenter garnered when she first discussed her interest in the role back in March of this year. The news went nowhere, however, and the rumor mill moved on to seemingly greener pastures. But fear not, oh fans of Carpenter -- the lady refuses to give up and still hopes for a reunion with Whedon. In yet another interview with TV Guide, Carpenter responded to a Wonder Woman question by stating she is "working on it," and went on to say "I'm dying to kick butt as Wonder Woman. Itching to kick butt! In my last year of Angel, I was really pregnant and I couldn't do any butt-kicking, so I would really like this opportunity to work with Joss and take it to a new level."
Buffy's Charisma Wants to be Wonder Woman

A few days ago, the increasingly scary Lindsay Lohan announced that
she'd like to play the title character in Joss Whedon's upcoming
Wonder Woman project. While this indubitably made a few of
you out there excited, most of us were on our knees, praying that any god who might listen would keep her far, far away
from the project. Recently, another actress expressed interest in the part - an this one is probably much more palatable
for the geek world. Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on
TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel told TV Guide that she'd love to play the part. When TV
Guide suggested the match, Carpenter excitedly responded "I know! From your lips to God's ears... or Joss'.
"Regular readers know that I've never been an avid Buffy fan. I don't think it was a bad show by any means - I just never watched much of it. However, Carpenter is already leagues ahead in my mind based on the simple fact that she is not Lindsay Lohan. I don't know how talented she is - some of you who've seen her on TV should chime in here and let me know - but I suppose she does at least have the look for the part. And she's probably got a good angle, having worked with Joss for several years on his most beloved project.
