This week we're skippin' on over to the new Eddie Murphy comedy Imagine That, which stars Murphy as a down-on-his-luck financial executive who suddenly finds success through his young daughter's imaginary world of friends. (Meanwhile, all my imaginary friends do is hog the remote and drink all my beer. Yeah, thanks imagination!) The folks behind our three favorite captions this week will each walk away with one Imagine That poster. Now go forth and imagine up some funny captions for the photo below ...

Golden Globes Update: Show Might Not be Televised
Filed under: Awards », RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy », Newsstand »
I'm sure a lot of you don't care either way, but there's now a chance The Golden Globes ceremony scheduled to air live on NBC this January 13 may not show up on the boob tube at all. Anne Thompson reports over on her Thompson on Hollywood blog that word from within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (or HFPA) is that one option -- should the writers still be on strike on that day -- is to not televise the ceremony in order to ensure a high celebrity presence. Call me a moron, but I'm not sure of the difference between televising an event and not televising an event as it pertains to "crossing the picket lines." Thompson's article makes it sound like actors are allowed to cross the picket lines if the Globes aren't televised, though I just assumed they wouldn't cross the picket lines regardless. Maybe I'm missing something though; feel free to clue me in.
As it stands right now, the Globes won't have any writers to pen those presentation speeches as the WGA has already turned down a waiver which would allow writers to work on the show. Additionally, it's believed that if the show was to go on as planned -- with the WGA out picketing in full force -- a good majority of actors and actresses would not cross the picket lines. Not televising the show, however, also brings into question what sort of contractual obligations HFPA has to NBC. As Thompson points out, "If the show is not televised, NBC will lose the revenue it would have generated via advertising (the Globes show earns strong ratings), and the Globes will lose the money they would have been paid. But at this point it is much more important to the HFPA (which has enough cash in its coffers to miss one year's telecast) for the Globes show to go on with celebrities walking down that red carpet (even with no writers to pen the presentation speeches) to present and accept awards than for them to face the possibility that most stars will not cross an active picket line."

'Good Luck Chuck' Trailer -- The Unrated Version
Filed under: Comedy », Fandom », Trailer Trash », Movie Marketing »
So lately, a lot of these R-rated comedies have been sneaking in red band trailers to accompany your run-of-the-mill "no nudity or foul language included within" trailers. I'm not exactly sure where they come from, but they're available to watch online and contain some of the more raunchier content for whichever film is being advertised. Today, I have for you the red band trailer for Good Luck Chuck -- the latest Dane Cook flick, starring Jessica Alba. I should warn you that this trailer is rated R, so those of you allergic to foul language and/or sexual content should probably stay away.
In the film (which includes what is perhaps the perfect role for a young, hot, horny actor), Cook plays a guy who's cursed. See, every time he sleeps with a girl, she goes on to marry the next guy she happens to date. Once word gets around, Cook's character is bombarded by marriage-hungry women looking to use his private area as a magic wand (so to speak). Problems arise when he meets Alba; the perfect catch, and a girl he can see himself settling down with. But in order to not lose her to the curse, he goes above and beyond the call of duty ... and we get a pretty nasty taste of that in this brand new trailer. Those of you looking for something a bit tamer can find it in this newly-released clip over at Moviefone. In it, Cook and Alba (as their respective characters) meet for the first time at the wedding of a girl Cook used to date. Some cutesy dialogue paves the way for a physical set piece that has Alba using a towel to wipe hot wax off Cook's crotch area. Man, what I'd give to be his stunt double for that scene. Good Luck Chuck hits theaters on September 21.
Jeffrey M. Anderson's 400 Screens, 400 Blows - Unpopular Opinion
Filed under: Lists », Columns », 400 Screens, 400 Blows »

Every so often I like to look at the ratings on the Internet Movie Database, just to keep my finger on the pulse of popular opinion. You can use their power search feature to sort through all kinds of lists. So I recently did a search for all 2006 movies with more than 400 votes. (For perspective, the new documentary Wordplay has 420 votes, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has nearly 40,000.) From there, you can sort through the top 100 movies, ranked by ratings on a scale of 1 to 10. It's like an ongoing American Film Institute list of the year's best movies, which are really the year's most popular movies.
In any case, this list gives one a clearer idea of the popular climate than the actual box office scores.
The number one movie of the year so far is, rather surprisingly, a Bollywood film called Rang De Basanti. It opened here in San Francisco back in May and I missed it. All I can tell you about it is that it was three hours long. But I can tell you that Bollywood films have a following far more rabid than anything we know here in America, where Tom Cruise acts crazy for a couple of weeks and fans turn up their noses at him. In Bollywood, he'd be bronzed.
More Resident Evil Casting News

The people casting Resident Evil are really on the move, which is probably a good thing seeing as how shooting is scheduled to start very soon. Following closely behind yesterday's announcement of Ashanti joining the team comes today's news of two more cast members: Ali Larter of Final Destination fame and Chris Egan of very little fame (he'll be in Eragon, though ... so maybe that's a bit of future potential fame). Larter has been cast as Claire, a character gamers will recognize from Resident Evil 2 (the game, obviously, not the film) and Egan has been cast as Mikey. Along with this announcement comes clarification on yesterday's Ashanti news -- her part will apparently be Nurse Betty. Yeah, Nurse Betty. The film will get underway next Monday in Mexico. Mexico will be playing the part of Nevada, in case you were curious. Poor Mexico, always getting typecast in those bland desert sort of roles. Somebody really ought to roll the dice and give that kid a try as a rain forest or something. No, I don't know what I'm talking about.
Latin Teens from the Valley Predict Summer Hits
Filed under: Fandom », Remakes and Sequels », Lists », Columns »
The Onion AV Club weighs
in on a crop of 2006 summer movie previews (and finds them mostly wanting), but Patrick Goldstein at the LA
Times goes to a
select group for his summer predictions: the Summer Movie Posse, consisting of a group of ten high school kids from
San Fernando High, a largely Latino school in the Valley. The Posse dissected 13 movie previews from the summer's
youth-oriented films, and if they're an accurate barometer (last year's panel had five hits in their top six picks),
Will Ferrell's Taladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
will fare best. Some of the Posse's panelists already sound like weary media professionals; witness Markar Aghajanian,
15, on Superman Returns : "My problem is that
there have been so many Superman stories that it's hard to imagine this one being very interesting. Just leave the old
movies alone."
