Watch This: Hilarious R-Rated Teaser for 'Hot Tub Time Machine'

Filed under: Comedy », Fandom », Movie Marketing », Trailers and Clips »

If you read Cinematical enough, you're already familiar with a bizarre upcoming comedy called Hot Tub Time Machine, and how it could very well be the most awesomest hot tub time machine-related film ever made in the history of hot tub time machine films. Starring John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Rob Corrdry, Chevy Chase and more, the film tells of a group of foul-mouthed, boozed-up gents who discover they can travel back in time via their ski lodge hot tub. Hilarity ensues.

MGM just sent us the first teaser/clip from the film, which is totally filthy and extremely R-rated, so be warned before heading after the jump. The scene itself shows the guys talking about time machines and Terminator, and I don't think I've ever seen John Cusack use the word 'f*ck' that many times in one scene. In an exclusive chat with Cinematical recently, Hot Tub Time Machine writer (and Cinematical fan) Josh Heald told us the following: "Hot Tub Time Machine is probably the greatest gift anyone's ever given the world. Time will show that it ranks up there with the Statue of Liberty and free Internet porn."

Watching this clip and, well, I think I agree, sir. Check it out after the jump. Hot Tub Time Machine attacks theaters on February 26, 2010.

Review: Sex Drive

One normally tries not to bring the marketing of a film up in its review. Maybe one can toss in a mention here of a misleading trailer or of a really clever teaser poster, but that only serves and represents a film up to a point, after which the final product should serve and represent, well, itself.

However, the poster for Sex Drive so clearly represents what I cared for least in this film that we're just going to start there ... specifically not with the relatively apt one in which our protagonist (Josh Zuckerman) has an erect speedometer, but the most recent one, the one that just has a donut on it.

Geek Daily: Sex With 'The Spirit,' Viggo Talks 'Hobbit' and 'Watchmen 2' ... Already?

  • /Film has a bunch of new photos from The Spirit, the film the Internet and Lionsgate forgot. The photos are so snazzy they nearly erase memories of toilets always being funny, and giant wrenches existing in mud lakes. I can still admire the retro clothes, and how well Gabriel Macht looks in a mask, can't I?
  • And lest you think Will Eisner is the only comic legend being abused, Patrick Wilson told MTV that, yes, the studio has talked about the possibilities of a Watchmen sequel. "It's all been talked about. Financially, they like to do that. But all of us, Zack [Snyder] included, all go, 'How on Earth could you do a sequel or prequel?' Certainly, artistically, I can't fathom how it would happen. But hey, if Alan Moore writes it, I'd love to read it." Given the solid endings of both Watchmen and 300, I say you combine the two impossible sequels into one insane film, throw in wizards, ninjas, and Jason Statham and just call it good.
  • According to Dread Central, Brett Ratner is considering the role of director on that Conan franchise reboot. Like with any Ratner project, we'll hold our cries for help till things are made official.

Geek Daily: 'Spidey 4, 5', 'Hulk' Sequels and More!

The Geek Beat is taking a late-September vacation to Middle Earth -- but it will be back next month and those of you suffering withdrawels can always check the archives. In the meantime, you can relax with a daily round-up of nerdy news bites. (They taste like coconut!) This is relaxing for me, too -- I get to catch up on my reading, my Halloween shopping, and my yoga. I can stay up all night re-reading Preacher (you know I will) and not waiting for an X-Men Origins: Wolverine story. A good way to end summer!

Now, onto today's news ...

  • According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeffery Erb and Robert Robinson Jr. have launched Framelight Productions with an eye to producing edgy comic and graphic novel adaptations. They already have options on Larry Hama's Dr. Death with Kip and Muffy, Gary Reed's Deadworld, Ralph Tedesco and Joe Tyler's Sins of the Fallen, as well as their 1001 Arabian Nights. (Clicking on any of those links will take you to previews of the books.) All of their productions aim to do one thing in particular -- involve the creator in all aspects of movie making. "We weren't the only producers wanting to make movies based on these creators' babies, but we were the only ones inviting them in as co-producers," says Erb.
  • Edward Norton told MTV News that he's uncertain about the future of The Incredible Hulk and his role in it. There's been no word on whether they will be a solo sequel, or if Norton will be playing the Hulk in The Avengers. "The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque. I won't say [they're] obtuse, but I don't have any idea what they want to do." Perhaps they're considering Matthew McConaughey, who had no idea he was rumored for Captain America -- but revealed to MTV that Hulk is really the only Marvel character he would like to play. (They could save on the budget -- all they have to do is dye that muscled dude green.)

Watch This: R-Rated 'Sex Drive' Clip

Filed under: Comedy », Fandom », Movie Marketing », Images », Trailers and Clips »

It's Friday, and what a better way to usher in the weekend than to watch a couple of boys talk about not having sex. Moviefone has just unveiled a pretty funny clip from the upcoming teen comedy Sex Drive, featuring a whole bunch of folks like James Marsden, Seth Green and .... finally ... Clark Duke, who makes his big feature debut after starring opposite Michael Cera in those hilarious Clark and Michael web videos. The film, which I've actually heard quite a number of good things about, follows a high school senior who drives across country with his pals in an attempt to meet a girl he met online. The clip (which you can check out over here) is R-rated, which means you will need to fill out one of those age verification forms. Also, check out a bunch of brand new images from the flick below.

Sex Drive hits theaters on October 17.

Who's Fully Prepared to Run Out of 'Sex Drive'?

Filed under: Comedy », Independent », Trailers and Clips »

So this horny virgin decides that he and his best friend are going to go on a multi-state trip by car in order to meet the hypothetical girl of his dreams... You feel like you've seen this movie already, haven't you? Like, at some point in the eighties, probably on pay cable late at night, but surely, you've sat through this before. Right? Well, whether you have or haven't, get ready to see it all over again, because that's the general thrust of Sex Drive -- or at least its trailer, currently being hosted by the likes of Apple.

Now, I've been assured that director Sean Anders' previous film, Never Been Thawed (about frozen food collectors), is fairly funny; if nothing else, it's a creative and original idea. But I don't see where this one doesn't cross the line from being an '80s sex-romp homage/throwback to just a tepid raunchy-road-trip farce. That could very well be the case, but everything in those two minutes appears to be either contrived (they met online, so he's willing to drive from Chicago to Knoxville for something I'm certain is available elsewhere in Chicago) or wacky, which is so commonly mistaken for funny (our hero's wearing a Mexican donut costume for work! Craaaazzzzzzyyyy!!!).

I've also got to throw in there that James Marsden built up some genuine goodwill with last year's Hairspray and Enchanted. I'll take it on faith that he had already filmed this before those, that he magically knows better now, and that this is merely opening out of ill-fated hopes that someone might mistake this for the next Superbad when it hits screens on October 10 (although having Michael Cera's comedic cohort can't hurt that cause).

Get the Speedometer Perked for 'Sex Drive'

The Teeth poster that Erik shared earlier today might have been too risque, but how about an obvious phallic joke? Yesterday, MTV released a poster for Sex Drive, and subtle it ain't. To the right you can see the graphic for the poster (which you can view in its entirety over at MTV). A full-mast sex drive that's coming soon? At the very least, this should be a very good indication of what sort of humor you can expect from the film.

Speaking of, the flick focuses on a kid who meets a girl online, one who sends him the eloquent message: "U Drive All the Way Here 4 Me ... I'll Go All the Way with U." So, of course, the kid hits the road with his friends to do all the things that this poster implies. I sure hope he got other messages to convince him. At the very least, some sort of: "Are you U sure?" "U bet!"

Josh Zuckerman stars as the deluded teen, and is joined by the likes of Amanda Crew, Clark Duke, James Marsden, and Seth Green as an Amish dude.
