We host a lot of contests throughout the year, but it is now my pleasure to announce the official launching of my absolute favorite: Cinematical's Fourth Annual Halloween Costume Contest is on! Now you have more than one use for that awesome movie-related Halloween costume, right? Once again, we have all sorts of nifty prize packages for the best adult costume and best youth costume, and unlike previous years, this time we're giving away more than just DVDs. Hellz yes, I'm talking some sweet movie gear too!

So, again, that's two prize packages this year: One for adults over 18 and one for kids under 18. Like in previous contests (check out last year's winners), your costumes MUST be movie-related. We're taking submissions starting now and all the way up until November 6th. Once our spook-tacular judges here at Cinematical narrow the field down to 10 finalists in each category, we'll then let you vote (via poll) for the winner. And speaking of winners, here's what you'll receive:

Grand Prize Package: Adult Winner

Saw 1-4 DVDs (keep in mind Saw V hits theaters this Friday, October 24)
Saw t-shirt,
Jigsaw doll and Saw poster
Unrated The Strangers DVD and scary masks
Rest Stop 2 Blu-Ray DVD

Zombie Strippers magic 8 balls

Dominos Pizza Offers Free But Greasy Batman Costume ... and New Trailer!

Filed under: Action », Comedy », Warner Brothers », Movie Marketing », Remakes and Sequels », Trailers and Clips »

I can't wait for Halloween, when I'm going to be dressing up as Batman, courtesy of Dominos. Among the pizza chain's many tie-ins with this summer's The Dark Knight are these cool pizza boxes, which include separate parts to a cardboard-costume whole. Yes, you'll have to order a number of pizzas to complete your outfit, and there will likely be grease stains all over your utility belt, but your other option is to actually buy a costume ... and go hungry.

Actually, I just remembered that I'm going to be out of the country on Halloween. But when I return, I want to see lots of you Cinematical readers fashioned in Dominos-catered Batman costumes and taking part in our annual costume contest. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Dominos Dark Knight vault, which features details on everything from a special Gotham City meal deal to multiple sweepstakes. And apparently if you order a pizza through the website, you'll gain access to other goodies, like clips, wallpapers, artwork and an exclusive new trailer ... which you may or may not be able to watch after the jump.

Halloween Costume Contest: And the Winners Are ...

Filed under: Fandom », Contests », Images »

After much vote counting and recounting, we can finally announce that the winners of our Third Annual Costume Contest are Shrek and Fiona in the Adult category, and the Tim Burton Group in the Kids category. Runners-up in the Adult category were the Gargoyle and Alien and Ripley; runners-up in the Kids category were Snoopy and the Toy Soldiers. Thanks very much to all our entrants and finalists for making this a great contest. We had some impressive entries this year, and we can't wait to see what you come up with for next year! Here are pics of the winners and the runners-up (if you want to see all the entrants again, the complete gallery is after the jump):

ADULT WINNER: SHREK AND FIONA

ADULT RUNNER-UP: GARGOYLE

ADULT RUNNER-UP: ALIEN AND RIPLEY

KIDS WINNER: TIM BURTON GROUP:

KIDS RUNNER-UP: SNOOPY

KIDS RUNNER-UP: TOY SOLDIERS

A quick aside: Erik and I would like to request that, even if you don't agree with the results, you please refrain from attacking the winners in the comments. The folks who submitted the Shrek and Fiona entry followed the rules as we set them up; I personally emailed the adult finalists letting them know they'd been selected, so that everyone could have a chance to let their friends and family come and vote for them. We've done it this way the past two years and it's not been an issue; this year there were some hard feelings and ugly comments tossed around in what was intended to just be a fun contest, and so we're going to revisit how we run the contest for next year. We'd like your feedback as to how YOU think the contest should be run, so we can take that into account next year. Please take a moment to respond to the poll questions and let us know your thoughts, and thank you so much for participating and for reading Cinematical.

You'll find the poll questions, and a gallery of all the contest entrants, after the jump. Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Cinematical!

Our Third Annual Halloween Costume Contest is Coming!

Filed under: Site Announcements », Contests »

It's October, Cinematical readers, and that means it's once again time for our ever-popular Halloween Costume Contest! Last year we had some truly impressive entries (that's last year's winner in the "Adult" category at the right!) from some very dedicated movie fans and fanatics. The attention to detail in some of the costumes was pretty remarkable.

Now that we're getting into our Halloween coverage, it's time for you to kick your creativity into high gear and start thinking about your own costume. Here's the scoop:

1. The contest officially begins on October 20. Starting that day (and no sooner) you will be able to submit your contest entries. Be sure to look for the post a day or so before that, announcing HOW to enter, and our fun-filled, official, legal rules.

2. Your contest entry must in some way be related to movies. It can be a character, a play on a movie title, a famous actor or director -- whatever. So long as it relates to film, and you're not nude (sorry, kids) you're good.

3. You will email your contest submission to the address we announce in the official kick-off post.

4. We'll post the finalist's pictures, and you -- yes, you! -- will vote in the comments for who you think should win. One vote per person/email address. And yes, if you enter, your friends and family can vote for you, and you can vote for yourself. But each vote will be counted ONCE and only once. Dupe votes will be tossed in the virtual shredder.

5. The winners in the kid and adult categories will each receive a Fabulous Cinematical Halloween Prize Package, which will consist of a groovy collection of horror DVDs selected by Cinematical staff. Each of us is choosing our personal favorite horror flicks for the adult prize package, and we'll have a nice prize for the kid winner, too.

That's it for now ... start thinking of those costumes, you only have 16 18 days* until the contest kicks off!

**Thanks for catching that, Tidmore. This post wasn't going to go out until the 4th, but we decided to bump it out early -- but we didn't catch changing that!
