Lindsay Lohan Dropped from 'Manson's Girls'

Filed under: Drama », Casting », RumorMonger »

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse for Lindsay Lohan, Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that Lohan has been dropped from the true-life crime flick, Manson's Girls. According to DHD, "people associated with the movie told agents that Lohan quickly became more of a deficit than an asset when they discovered that they couldn't find any name actresses who wanted to co-star with her. (And even some name actors...) So now Lindsay is off the pic."

Ouch, that can't be good for her self-esteem, although the gossip gal in me would have liked to hear the names of some of those "name actors".

Dare to Delay Me -- Lindsay Lohan's Next Film On Hold

Producer Gary Hamilton, mostly known for direct-to-video crap although he also produced the stellar Aussie horror film Wolf Creek, recently chatted with Page Six about his upcoming film Dare to Love Me, starring Lindsay Lohan, and apparently production on that film has been postponed at the zero hour before cameras were about to roll. "I'm not sure the movie is going to go immediately," he confessed to the gossip rag, while deflecting the obvious question about whether insuring star Lohan was the financial hurdle he couldn't get over. "There's no problem with Lindsay from our perspective," he said. "It's financing the film, which is a separate issue." I wouldn't necessarily take him at his word on that, since even at this stage of the game he couldn't afford to be perceived as slamming his star in the press and it makes too much sense to assume insurance companies balked at backing Lohan, who was spotted chugging champagne as recently as this past weekend.

On the other hand, one look at the movie's bio will make you think that no one would finance this thing if it had Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie attached. The seemingly ill-conceived period piece follows "tango legend Carlos Gardel" who falls in love with a prostitute and gets shot in the lung, but still "seduces crowds with his enchanting voice, bringing Tango music as a liberating voice to Europe." It's being directed by Alfonso Arau, the guy who hit us over the noggin with A Walk in the Clouds back in 1995, and was only recently released from director's jail for that crime. Stay tuned to Cinematical for the latest twists and turns in Lohan's career rollercoaster ride.

Lindsay Lohan Leaves Rehab, will Star in 'Dare to Love Me'

Yes, finally, Lindsay Lohan has left rehab! It was a trying time for us fans, but the streets of Los Angeles were safer without her car on the road. In an interview with OK! Magazine, La Lohan said of her time in Utah's Cirque Lodge (a drug and alcohol treatment center), "It was a sobering experience. It was humbling. It made me look at myself, and all of the people, places and things in my life in a different way. I was in there for substance abuse, after all." I like how she adds that last sentence in there, as if she wanted to say -- "I was in rehab idiots, did you expect me to talk to you about running around the grounds naked, with a monkey in a pink dress, while holding a cocktail and a menthol?"

But enough about the scandal, when will we see Lohan back up on the big screen -- I mean, that's if she doesn't quit Hollywood and all. She says, "I'm staying in Utah until it's time to shoot Dare to Love Me, and then I plan on returning to Utah so I can stay focused, and avoid other distractions." Did we already know Lohan was shooting that film? I don't think so. Last time we talked about Dare to Love Me, the film which tells the story of Argentinian tango legend Carlos Gardel, both Paz Vega and the singer-turned-actress Shakira were up for roles opposite Rodrigo Santoro in the flick. Alfonso Arau (A Walk in the Clouds) is set to direct off a script by Jeremy Leven (The Notebook), and I imagine Lohan will play some sort of American love interest (God help me if she tries an accent). Of course, let's see if the actress actually makes it to work this time; in the past year, she's walked away from at least three (or is it four?) different films. There's no further word on the film, or her involvement, but I imagine it will start shooting soon. In the meantime, check out our Lohan gallery below (pre-rehab), and we hope the gal makes it through in good health (and spirits) this time without pissing off the entire state of Utah.

Vega, Santoro and Shakira Dare to Love Me

Hollywood has a great tradition of song and dance movies like Singin' in the Rain, The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music and more recently with Moulin Rouge! and Chicago. In fact, many of the most popular and successful films of all time are musicals. And now a new film will try to take its place among those great films of the past -- Dare to Love Me, directed by Alfonso Arau of A Walk in the Clouds.

According to production weekly, super-hot Paz Vega, Rodrigo Santoro and singer-turned-actress Shakira will star in the film, scripted by The Notebook writer Jeremy Leven, which tells the story of Argentinian tango legend Carlos Gardel (Santoro) whose involvement in a torrid love triangle leads to tragedy when he's shot, leaving a bullet lodged in his lung for the rest of his life. Making his way to 1930's Paris, Carlos finds the will to sing again and entrances a new legion of fans, including love interests Vega and Shakira, by bringing tango music to Europe's exploding music scene.

This film has a long way to go before it will count as a " musical classic" among the ones mentioned above; that said, Arau has a proven ability to manage this kind of sweeping tragic love story and writer Leven knows this ground exceptionally well too. Combine the skills and experience of these two men together with the charismatic and talented cast Arau has assembled, and this film might just have a chance. Or, we could end up with another Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on our hands -- and believe me, nobody wants that. Shooting on Dare to Love Me is expected to start next spring in Romania.

So, is this film going to be more Moulin Rouge! or Sgt. Pepper?
